Army

The U.S. Army is made of committed Enlisted Soldiers and Officers serving together to protect America’s freedoms and to preserve the peace. This kind of commitment makes each and every one of these Soldiers the embodiment of selfless service.

The Army is a key component of the U.S. Armed Forces, providing expeditionary land forces wherever-and whenever-they are required. Working in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Defense, the Army trains and equips Soldiers-and creates leaders among them-to rapidly respond when they are called upon to serve our Nation.

Navy

Navy SEALs handle classified missions from the sea, air and land with razor–sharp precision, teamwork and cool–headedness. SEALs are considered the leading offensive force in the world. Their missions include reconnaissance, clandestine operations or unconventional and counter–guerilla warfare.

Each SEAL team specializes in an Area of Operation (AO), such as jungle, arctic, woodland or desert terrain. Special tactics, techniques and equipment apply to each AO — from SEAL Delivery Vehicles and high–speed gunner boats to advanced SCUBA gear and other sophisticated equipment.

Marines

Marines are warriors. Comprised of smart, highly adaptable men and women, the Marine Corps serves as the aggressive tip of the U.S. military spear. Ours is a smaller, more dynamic force than any other in the American arsenal, and the only forward-deployed force designed for expeditionary operations by air, land, or sea. It is our size and expertise that allow us to move faster. Working to overcome disadvantage and turn conflict into victory, we accomplish great things, and we do so together.

In the Marine Corps, there is a motto that describes our commitment to each other, our organization, and our country. It is Semper Fidelis or "Semper Fi." Translated from Latin, it means "Always Faithful."

Rangers

As with all special operations forces, the Rangers report to the Joint Special Operations Command, or JSOC, when in hostile or war situations. They are organized into the 75th Ranger Regiment, consisting of three battalions based at Fort Benning, Georgia.

The Rangers are kept at a high level of readiness and can deploy anywhere in the world at a moment's notice. Rangers are trained in rapid infantry assault and night fighting. They are the premiere airfield seizure and raid unit in the Army. The Rangers are trained to infiltrate and exit by air, land or sea and have the capability to conduct conventional or special light-infantry operations.

SEALS

SEALs, which stand for Sea, Air, Land, are the U.S. Navy's primary and most acclaimed special operations forces unit. Operating mainly in tight 16-man teams, SEALs train for missions in maritime environments, the desert, the jungle, in cold weather, and in urban surroundings.

SEALs are trained extensively and rigorously in and around San Diego, California, and Norfolk, Virginia, to withstand and thrive in the face of personal, physical, environmental and other challenges. A final phase of their training is known as "Hell Week." SEALs trace their history to the frogmen of World War II, although new threats -- including terrorism -- have forced them to evolve substantially in recent years.

The U.S.A.F. Pararescue teams are the Air Force's elite medical forces that are capable of supplying trama and medical assistance for not only downed pilots or ground crew but also special operations forces and units. They are highly trained during a grueling phase that washes out the vast majority of applicants. In addition to their excellent medical training, Pararescue members are trained in parachute insertions (including jumoing into heavily forested environments or water), waterborne ops including SCUBA, heliborne operational proceedures, and also patrolling techniques they may need when attached to a larger ground force or small Special Operations unit. Pararescue are also tasked with search and rescue missions into a wide variety or terrains and regions.

Force Recon

US Marine Reconnaissance units are tasked with providing the commander of a larger force of Marines with information about his operational area. Their missions usually focus on specific information requirements which, due to their changing or unique nature, cannot be obtained by means other than putting a man on the ground to observe and report. Recon Marines are, by nature, capable of independent action in support of the larger unit's mission. We also are, as an additional and entirely separate focus, tasked with a wide variety of "direct action" missions which provide a Marine Amphibious Ready Group with a limited special operations capability.

The US Navy's Explosive Ordnance Disposal units primary mission is to disarm and render safe any explosive devices. Originally conceptualized as simple underwater mine disarming in WWII, their role has expanded enormously to include all conventional munitions, terrorist devices, nuclear weapons, and chemical/biological weapons. They can do so both on land and under the surface and are regularly attached to both shore or shipboard missions and duties. Although not under SOCCOM, EOD operates with many of the US Special Operations forces under SOCCOM; including the US Army's Special Forces and Navy SEALs.

U. S. Coast Guard

Search and Rescue (SAR) is one of the Coast Guard's oldest missions.  Minimizing the loss of life, injury, property damage or loss by rendering aid to persons in distress and property in the maritime environment has always been a Coast Guard priority.  Coast Guard SAR response involves multi-mission stations, cutters, aircraft and boats linked by communications networks.  The National SAR Plan divides the U.S. area of SAR responsibility into internationally recognized inland and maritime SAR regions.  The Coast Guard is the Maritime SAR Coordinator.  To meet this responsibility, the Coast Guard maintains SAR facilities on the East, West and Gulf coasts; in Alaska, Hawaii, Guam, and Puerto Rico, as well as on the Great Lakes and inland U.S. waterways.  The Coast Guard is recognized worldwide as a leader in the field of search and rescue.

FBI

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is the investigative arm of the US Department of Justice. The FBI’s investigative authority can be found in Title 28, Section 533 of the US Code. Additionally, there are other statutes, such as the Congressional Assassination, Kidnapping, and Assault Act (Title 18, US Code, Section 351), which give the FBI responsibility to investigate specific crimes.

The mission of the FBI is to protect and defend the United States against terrorist and foreign intelligence threats, to uphold and enforce the criminal laws of the United States, and to provide leadership and criminal justice services to federal, state, municipal, and international agencies and partners. The organization with these responsibilities has not always been called the FBI.

DEA

The mission of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is to enforce the controlled substances laws and regulations of the United States and bring to the criminal and civil justice system of the United States, or any other competent jurisdiction, those organizations and principal members of organizations, involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances appearing in or destined for illicit traffic in the United States; and to recommend and support non-enforcement programs aimed at reducing the availability of illicit controlled substances on the domestic and international markets.

ATF

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is a preeminent Federal law enforcement agency fighting violent crime in America. ATF’s enforcement activities support the Department of Justice’s strategic goal: to “enforce Federal laws and represent the rights and interests of the American people.” Through enforcement of Federal firearms laws, investigation of arsons and explosives incidents and thefts, and efforts to combat alcohol and tobacco diversion, ATF special agents, inspectors and support personnel safeguard the American public from violent crime. For the past eight years ATF has been awarded the highest rating possible for a strong financial internal control structure and a solid record of complying with laws and regulations.

Customs

Protecting our Borders Against Terrorism

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is the unified border agency within the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). CBP combined the inspectional workforces and broad border authorities of U.S. Customs, U.S. Immigration, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service and the entire U.S. Border Patrol.

CBP includes more than 41,000 employees to manage, control and protect the Nation’s borders, at and between the official ports of entry.

Police Units

Police Officers comprise the largest number of sworn officers in the Department. The Police Officer rank is divided into three paygrade advancement ranks: Police Officer I, II and III. A Police Officer I is a probationary officer who automatically advances to Police Officer II upon successful completion of his/her probationary period. A Police Officer may be assigned to a foot beat, a black and white patrol car, bicycle patrol, Mounted Unit, a two-wheel motorcycle or a specialized unit such as S.W.A.T. or K-9 Unit. Normally, when a police recruit graduates from the Police Academy, he/she is assigned to a geographic patrol division within the City and is considered as a probationary officer and placed under the supervision of a higher ranking officer, normally a Police Officer III Field Training Officer. A probationary Police Officer assigned to a patrol unit performs basic duties.

SWAT

The Special Weapons and Tactics Team is comprised of officers and supervisors who receive specialized training in weaponry, less lethal munitions, tactical responses, and negotiations. SWAT is a collateral assignment with members having primary assignments within the department such as watch officer, detective, school resource officer, etc. Team members also include administrative support personnel from Patrol Services and Firefighter Paramedics from the Longmont Fire Department. The team's "medics" provide Tactical Emergency Medical Services during operations.

The team is on call 24 hours a day all year long to provide assistance to any division, section, or unit within the department. From time to time, the team is also requested by outside agencies to assist them with critical incidents.
