I am a Cpl. in the Army and just returned from Iraq. I carried my shotgun all year on my back in your shotgun scabbard, and it worked great! I was glad to have it around several times, and it proved to be an easy way to keep the shotgun handy for the squad. Thanks for your great product, and for your support of our troops!!

Another happy customer
Bob Miller

When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton I was in Weapons Company 3/5. The unit made us t-shirts with the 3/5 logo/emblem/crest, "Consumate Professionals". I was honorable discharged in 1999 and the t-shirt has been long-gone. I searched a couple of web site to find a shirt with the logo/emblem/crest but there was no luck. It didn't take me long to search this site before I found what I was looking for. When the shirt arrived it was better than what I expected. I love the t-shirt and wear it with pride and often. Thank you SpecialForces.com

Most Sincerely,
Bryan P.

Thank you!!!

Your Shirts are the best.

Andreas

Dear SFG,

Thank you for being so prompt with my order, and the refund as well.

I thought a little constructive thoughts were in order.

The "HRT" boot knife is well constructed. I had to "hone" the edge though, both sides,to get it up to spec.

As for the "GI USMC Combat Knife"......Well, it wasn't really a K-Bar, at least not one that I've ever seen. It read "US", and above that it read "Ontario". No worries though, after I used a ceramic sharpening stone on both the small back edge and the full length edge, I'm quite pleased with them both. Oh, I almost forgot, both were very pretty well balanced.

I'll be purchasing again from you in the near future.

Sincerely,
Ed Whiteside

Dear Special Forces

I received my order i have to say that is better than i expected! Thank you and you'll hear fom me soon.

They turned out GREAT!!!!!! Thanks. I will be back for other things.

The Warrior's Battle For Control

"Thought versus Emotion"

Marcus Aurelius Roman Emperor from 161 to 180 AD wrote "It is
a shame for the soul to be first to give way in this life, when your
body does not give way."

Life is a constant struggle for us to become masters of our thoughts. Emotions are the challenge. Emotions are very powerful and often battle for control, but emotions only allow us to appreciate things. They have no intelligence or content, only feelings. To master control of one's thinking, first the warrior must learn not to depend on his emotions. His emotions depend on him. This means that thinking must always dominate the warrior's feelings. The warrior is most vulnerable when his emotions dominate him, meaning he has stopped thinking. When emotions take control common sense and rational behavior are absent, creating a dangerous environment where he acts on his feelings. This leaves the warrior open to reacting to things and situations, which will only end with disastrous results, instead of calculated responses to make the most of their situations.

"The prime principle then in man's constitution is the social. And the second is not to yield to the persuasions of the body, for it is the peculiar office of the rational and intelligent motion to circumscribe itself, and never to be overpowered either by the motion of the senses or of the appetites, for both are animal; but the intelligent motion claims superiority and does not permit itself to be overpowered by the others. And with good reason, for it is formed by nature to use all of them. The third thing in the rational constitution; is freedom from error and deception. Let then the ruling principle, holding fast to these things go straight on, and it has what is its own."
- Marcus Aurelius

The warrior must learn to control his feelings through thought, which is where courage comes from. Courage is the ability to think under pressure. This does not mean that a warrior will not have fear, but he does not give control over to fear. He conquers his fear by controlling it through thought.

Like a computer the mind is dependent on the information fed into it. Thought sorts out the bad information from the useful and develops courses of action. Through experience the mature warrior has learned there is; no intelligence in emotions, just feelings, which means fear is left in control, then allowing panic to set in.

"Consider how much more pain is brought on us by the anger and vexation caused by such acts than by the acts themselves at which we are angry and vexed.

And let this truth be present to you in the excitement of anger, that to be moved by passion is not manly, but that mildness and gentleness, as they are more agreeable to human nature, so also are they more manly, and he who possesses these qualities possesses strength, nerves, and courage, and not the man who is subject to fits of passion and discontent. For in the degree to which a man's mind is nearer to freedom from all passion, in the same degree also is it nearer to strength and as the sense of pain is a characteristic of weakness, so also is anger. For He, who yields to pain and He who yields to anger are both wounded and both submit."
- Marcus Aurelius

We have many types of emotional feelings. The warrior must always remember there is no content in emotions, just feelings. Emotion cannot cope with pressure and suffering it often becomes bitter and lashes out at everything. Most of us have experienced someone letting their emotions take over only to see this person become unreasonable and inflexible. You try and reason with them but you meet stubborn resistance. When emotions are in control, you are now only dealing with feelings that have no reason. The only hope you have, is to get them back to reality and thinking.

"I do my duty; other things do not trouble me; for they are either things without life, or things without reason, or things that have rambled and do not know the way."
- Marcus Aurelius

Soldiers from the moment they start basic training learn self control. Often, the soldier feels he is being treated unfairly, but he knows if he reacts emotionally, it will bring him more trouble so he learns to take it and if he does, he usually makes it through his training. The same is true of combat the soldier that relies on his training and does what he was trained and rehearsed to do, has a much better chance of survival then the soldier who allows his emotions to dominate his thinking.

"Indeed, no one can impede the things that are proper to the mind. Neither fire, nor iron, not tyrant, not abuse, touches it in any way."A sphere once formed remains round and true." - Marcus Aurelius

Warriors train hard to perfect their skill and knowledge. In time they advance, adding more depth to their knowledge, giving them more options to win, when put to the test. As the warrior advances, he knows that his skills are only good, if he can perform under pressure. This takes great self control, achieved through thought dominating, his emotions. Performance under pressure is what separates the boys from the men.

"When you have been compelled by circumstances to be disturbed in a manner, quickly return to yourself and do not continue out of tune longer than the compulsion lasts for you will have more mastery over the harmony then by continually returning to it."
- Marcus Aurelius

The mature warrior, knows from time to time emotions will get the better of them, which means the warrior must learn to recognize when he is giving control over to his feelings and resist that urge and if he can't, the next best thing is to recover his thinking as soon as possible, the sooner the better. When a warrior lets his feelings take control it's the same as a bad habit that needs to be broken. The less he gives in to the emotions, the stronger he will become.

"How can our principles become dead unless the impressions (thoughts) that correspond to them are extinguished? But it is in your power continuously to fan these thoughts into a flame. I can form the opinion that I ought to have about anything. If I am able to do so, why am I disturbed? The things that are external to my mind have no relation at all to my mind. Let this be the state of your affects, and you will stand erect. To recover your life is in your power. Look at things again as you used to look at them for in this consists the recovery of your life."
- Marcus Aurelius

People who have not had the proper upbringing and training often rely on their feelings and emotions. The problem with this is that there is no intelligence or content in emotions to reason with. So, they go through life running solely on their emotions. They go through life making decisions based on how they feel. Unfortunately, when this happens, feelings demand more feelings or stimulation. At this point, the emotions have won control and the mind is enslaved.

With emotions now in control enslaving the mind the person goes into a frantic search for magical answers to life and things to make them feel good. This covers anything that brings stimulation, from adopting bazaar religions, grooming standards, attire, to drugs, and perverted behaviors. Basically anything that makes them feel good or gets them attention.

For us observers, we wonder what are these people thinking, well they are not! They are dominated by their emotions. They will never be satisfied, so they generally become more extreme and bazaar in their behaviors as time goes on. Therefore, they will never find the magic answer to life that they have been searching for. Truth is only what is real, and can only be discovered through humility and objectivity, not through emotions.

"If any man is able to convince me and show me that I do not think or act right, I will gladly change; for I seek the truth by which no man was ever injured. But he is injured who abides in his error and ignorance."
- Marcus Aurelius

The mature warrior knows that the battle is often going to be between the control of his emotions and his enemy. If he allows his emotions to take control, he is now vulnerable and this will lead to his downfall. But, if he can create fear, anger or discouragement in his enemies, they will become vulnerable and he will defeat them. Most of us have used this technique against our opponents in life or sports, causing the opponent to become emotionally unstable.

"There are four principal aberrations of the superior faculty against which you should be constantly on your guard, and when you have detected them, you should wipe them out and say on each occasion thus: this thought is not necessary; this tends to destroy social union; this which you are going to say comes not from the real thoughts-for you should consider it among the most abused of things for a man not to speak from his real thoughts. But the fourth is when you shall reproach yourself for anything, for this is an evidence of the diviner part within you being overpowered and yielding to the less honorable and to the perishable part, the body and its gross pleasures."
- Marcus Aurelius

"If it is not right, do not do it! If it is not true, do not say it! Let your impulse be, in your own power!"

It's that time of year again!!

Believe it or not, it is time to start planning for the 2nd Annual Cocktails for Courage to benefit the Captain Kyle R. Van De Giesen Memorial Award Fund.  This Fund was started in 2009 after the death of Captain Kyle R. Van De Giesen.  Kyle knew from the age of 6 that he wanted to be a pilot in the Marine Corps, and that is exactly what he did.  Kyle was a loving son, brother, grandson, nephew, and cousin.  He was a devoted husband, a dedicated father, a loyal friend, and an accomplished Marine.  He epitomized class and had a smile that lit up a room.  Kyle was a man of conviction who valued family and country above all else. Sadly, on October 26, 2009, Kyle was killed in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan.  He was less than a week from returning home to his wife, Megan and 17 month-old daughter, Avery to await the birth of his first son, Colin Joseph.  Kyle was an amazing man, and all of us who loved him will keep his memory alive by striving.

The focus of The Captain Kyle R. Van De Giesen Memorial Award Fund is to perpetuate the legacy of Captain Kyle R. Van De Giesen, USMC Cobra Pilot. Kyle lived every aspect of his life by the Marine Corps values of honor, courage and commitment, and the Captain Kyle R. Van De Giesen Memorial Fund strives to recognize individual(s), programs, charitable organizations, and causes that best symbolize Kyle's devotion andunwavering commitment to these core values.

Due to the overwhelming success of the 1st Annual Cocktails for Courage, and the generosity of so many people and local companies, The Captain Kyle R. Van De Giesen Memorial Award Fund was able to donate more than $25,000 in awards including awards to high school seniors, Scribble Time, The Semper Fi Foundation, Heroes in Transition, North Attleboro Junior Football, and The Cpl. Nicholas Xiarhos Foundation.

In order to continue to achieve this level of giving (if not exceed it), we are looking for donations for our raffle and silent auction to be held as part of the 2nd Annual Cocktails for Courage to be held Friday May 27, 2011, with an attendance of 500-750 people.  Anything you are willing and able to contribute would be greatly appreciated.  We are working hard to carry on Kyle's legacy, and any help is a BIG help. Please feel free to send any information or questions to rememberKRV@yahoo.com

Word of Truth
Angelic Conflict
The Word Of Truth - Alive and Powerful

By Rev G.J. Rako

LTC (Ret)

IN USAR

What is the meaning of life? Why are we here? What is our purpose? Did God create man and then just walk away, abandoning us to our own devices? On the other hand, does God have a plan for our life? Is there a greater meaning, purpose and definition for our lives?

To understand these questions and obtain answers we must study the scriptures. The creation of intelligent beings has order and precedence. God created the angels first. We do not know how long the angels existed before God created man, maybe millions of years. However, we do know there was a great conflict, war, or revolution led by Satan, Lucifer son of the morning, the devil.

Satan was the greatest, most intelligent, most powerful angel ever created. He was the guardian of the very throne room of God. He was God's right hand man. In his greatness, he became arrogant. He believed he could be God, and started a revolution in heaven.

Isaiah 14:13 "But you said in your heart,' I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, and I will sit on the mount of assembly in the recesses of the north".

Satan convinced one third of all angelic creation to follow him against God. Judged by God and sentenced to the lake of fire, Satan must have appealed this sentence. He probably said something like, "how can a loving God cast his creatures into eternal fire?" You can hear people echo this, Satan's thinking, when they question suffering in the
world.

To resolve this angelic conflict, God created a lower form of life, man. God prepared the Garden of Eden. Only one sin was possible, eating from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Satan, the father of lies, (John 8:44) deceived the woman and she ate from the forbidden tree first. Then, Adam followed her into sin by taking the fruit from her hand.

Omniscient God knew in eternity past that these events would take place. He provided a redemptive solution for man prior to the creation. A man, born perfect, as Adam was created perfect would live without sin and thus be qualified to die in place of man. After the fall of Adam, all men except One are born physically alive but spiritually dead. We all need the redemptive solution provided by God. That solution is faith alone in Christ alone. The first mention of God's redemptive solution appears in Gen 3:15.

John 3:36 "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."

Acts 16:31...believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."

Satan usurped Adam as the ruler of this world when Adam fell. He has been deceiving the world and instituting his policy of evil ever since.

Rev 12:9 And the great dragon was thrown down, the serpent of old who is called the devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.

The angelic conflict rages throughout human history. In this very real but unseen conflict Satan, attempts to deceive the world with respect to God's plan of salvation for mankind, and His provision of the spiritual life for the elect. Satan does all he can to thwart the plan of God. He attempts to abrogate God's promises to man. Satan wins the angelic conflict if just one promise of God is not fulfilled. An unfulfilled promise makes God a liar and so, no better than Satan.

The Messiah had to be born true humanity to qualify as the perfect, efficacious, substitutionary sacrifice for all mankind. Nothing short of absolute perfection and true humanity would propitiate the perfect justice of God.

Satan's angels infiltrated humanity by procreating with the daughters of men.

Gen 6:2 that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

Their offspring were a human-angelic hybrid, the basis for the mighty men of mythology.

Gen 6:4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

This insidious plot was so successful that had it not been for God's judgment of the flood in Noah's day, there would be no true humanity. Only true humanity is qualified to die as a substitute for man.

Having failed at wiping out true humanity, Satan turned his energy to destroying the future birth of the Messiah. Satan inspired Herod to kill all the babies two years old and under to stop the Messiah, the king of the Jews.

Matt 2:16 Then when Herod saw that he had been tricked by the magi, he became very enraged, and sent and slew all the male children who were in Bethlehem and all its vicinity, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the magi.

Failing at this Satan's last hope was and is to kill every Jew alive, wipe them off the face of the earth. This has been the story of human history. With no Jews on earth, God cannot fulfill His promises to the Jews, the Abrahamic, Davidic, and new covenants to the Israel. This is why the world hates the Jews. This is the purest form of Satan's evil thinking. Hatred of the Jews represents the plan, and policy of Satan. Whenever you hear of anti-Semitism you are hearing Satan's emissaries on earth. The very fact that there is one Jew alive on earth is a testimony to the grace, and veracity of God. Try as they may, the Jews will never be destroyed. God has a plan, purpose, and destiny for the Jewish people.

The strategic victory of Christ on the cross ensures the failure of Satan and his plans. The war has been won. The sentence of the lake of fire will be executed in God's perfect time. The battle now is for your soul. Who will you follow in the last days of the angelic conflict, God or Satan, good or evil?

The prophet Isaiah foretold the coming of the Messiah, and that He would suffer for our sins before the promised Kingdom.

Isaiah 53:5-7 But He was pierced through for our transgressions, He was crushed for our iniquities; The chastening for our well-being fell upon Him, And by His scourging we are healed. All of us like sheep have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; But the LORD (God the Father) has caused the iniquity of us all to fall on Him (God the Son). He was oppressed and He was afflicted, yet He did not open His mouth; Like a lamb that is led to slaughter, and like a sheep that is silent before its shearers, so He did not open His mouth.

Isaiah 53: 12 Therefore, I will allot Him a portion with the great, and He will divide the booty with the strong; Because He poured out Himself to death, and was numbered with the transgressors; Yet He Himself bore the sin of many, and interceded for the transgressors.

To reject Christ, is to reject God's perfect and only plan of salvation.

Acts 4:12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

All other options are the lies and deceptions of Satan and lead to the lake of fire.

Matt 25:41 Then He will also say to those on His left, " Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels;"

Rev 20:10 And the devil who deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are also; and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

You still have time to change your mind and side with God in this great angelic conflict.

Defeating the Taser in Combat
by
Matt on March 2, 2009

I want to preface this article by acknowledging that I am uncomfortable in discussing the following tactics in an open forum, where potential criminals can access them. Realizing that criminals are already sharing their own tactics for defeating the Taser, I decided to go ahead and publish this article. I hope you find it helpful.

With Taser's being sold to civilians and the potential of an officer having his Taser taken from him, it is only a matter of time before an officer is assaulted by a suspect with a Taser. Having taken a hit, I would feel completely justified in drawing my weapon and shooting a suspect threatening me with a Taser, but my first priority must be avoiding getting hit by the Taser while drawing my gun. Taser's are extremely effective and can cause complete incapacitation, so what if anything can an officer do to fight back?

  1. A moving target is hard to hit. Moving straight towards or away from the threat gives the appearance that you are standing still and makes you relatively easy to hit. If you can move laterally from the threat, you will be much harder to hit.

  2. Know the effective range of the weapon. The law enforcement model, Taser X-26, has a maximum effective range of 25 feet and fires a 5-second cycle, while the civilian model, Taser C2, has a maximum effective range of 15 feet and fires a 30-second cycle. If you can position yourself outside the effective range of the weapon, you can avoid being hit.

  3. Full incapacitation versus localized pain. If you are ambushed by a suspect armed with a Taser at close range and you do not have time to move far enough back to avoid the reach of the weapon, remember that the smaller the spread of the two prongs, the fewer muscle groups are disrupted. As a last option, you can move quickly towards the threat to limit the spread of the prongs. You must be prepared to control the suspect's Taser to prevent a drive stun, while you neutralize the threat.

  4. Face the threat. If you are hit, you need to concentrate on breaking the wires or removing a probe with your hand before you fall to the ground. You will have limited ability to move your arms, so focus on making a sweeping motion with your lower arm and rip the wires away from your body. This would be extremely hard to do if you are shot in the back by the probes. National Geographic has an excellent series called "Fight Science". A recent episode featured former Navy Seal, Chris Caracci, attempting to defeat the Taser. Caracci had previously been exposed to the Taser, so he knew exactly what to expect. In this experiment, Caracci takes a few minutes to mentally prepare himself before taking the hit. In real life, you are going to be pumped full of adrenaline and you will not need to get psyched up. Watch the video here

  5. Ride the lightning in a training environment. If you have never taken a voluntary exposure with the Taser, then good luck. As you try to deal with this new sensation, your OODA loop is going to be violently disrupted. While having been exposed before is no guarantee of success, it does give you a better understanding of what to expect and can give you a slight edge. Surviving an ambush situation is all about playing the odds and setting them in your favor as much as possible. If you know what to expect, you will be better prepared mentally to deal with the situation.

Above all else, adopt a survival mindset. Know that you will not die and refuse to lose the engagement. Even if you are incapacitated by the Taser, be prepared to continue fighting as soon as you regain the physical ability to do it.

Warrior's Wisdom

Warriors Wisdom

Something very important I think we should always think about when we choose our Leaders and they choose our Generals and Admirals.

One could say that the art of war is susceptible to two points of view. One point of view relates entirely to the knowledge and genius of the general, the other to matters of detail.

The first is the same in all ages, and with all nations, whatever be the arms with which they fight. Hence it follows that great commanders have been governed by the same principles in all times.

The matters of detail, on the contrary, are under the control of existing circumstances. They vary with the character of a people and the quality of their arms and to prove that nothing is problematical in war, but that failure and success in military operations depend almost always on the natural genius and science of the chief.

Combat Survival

S.P.P. Survival Concepts

S.P.P. is the core concepts that are inherent of any viable survival strategy; spiritual, physical and practical (S.P.P.) concepts that outline a more detailed strategy based upon individualistic factors. Without acknowledging one of these core principles within your overall preparedness of survival strategy, you'll see a breakdown in your overall ability to implement other concepts. Think of S.P.P as a "survival triangle"; if any one of the points is not taken into account when developing your long term survival or preparedness strategies, the triangle fails as will your planning and/or implementation.

Spiritual Survival: Weather or not you believe in God, there is a spiritual component to the art of staying alive.  Without faith, hope and love in and for something or someone; there is no purpose in life. If we make grandiose plans to survive a nuclear holocaust, economic collapse or zombie apocalypse simply for the sake of "living" or "making it"; we'll surely fail. For me, as a Christian, I do not make plans to simply stay alive or keep my loved ones safe, because Jesus said if we seek to save our lives, simply for the sake of living as the world does, we shall surely lose them in the end anyway (Luke 17:33). The Bible teaches that to gain life, we must first lose it; for me that meant coming to know Jesus as my savior, learning His word and then learning what His plans are for our families survival and preparedness strategies.

What I'm about to share may be a bit much, but I have a feeling some may need to hear it. I was never an arm chair survivalist before becoming a Christian. I had zero interest in any of it as a matter of fact. I got started in learning outdoor skills and survival concepts because I began to have spiritual dreams and visions  that I saw coming to pass all around me. I started to receive phone calls from people out of the blue on the phone that didn't know me telling me that God told them to call me to tell me something related to 'getting ready', 'survival', 'gardening', etc. This process lasted a couple years before I decided to act on the things I was hearing (spiritually speaking) and what people were saying to me. This is what lead me to found Hunt Survival, Inc. and is why I left the church ministry I was accustomed to- I have a mandate to be a Survival Chaplain I guess you could say...

Surviving simply for the sake of staying alive in the face of impending apocalypse isn't enough; we must have faith. Faith in something or someone, somewhere that we believe hears us in our time of need, distress, and anguish. Faith that what we are doing is the right thing to be doing, right now, in this day and age even when everyone on the news, in the government and even in your church is saying you're an extremist or cult leader because you stockpile food, clothing, etc. for a rainy day. We must have hope, that there is a better tomorrow, there is a solution to life's problems and that we will weather the storm, however it may come and we'll do so in good health. And, we must have love, love for those with us be it family, friends or neighbors and also compassion for those we find along the path that are in need. We may be able to teach them a skill, share a meal, or give a blanket.

I'm struggling not to preach in this section; my faith, hope and love has a name, that name is Jesus Christ (Yeshua the Messiah) and I can proudly say that it was the Bible that taught me the reasons that survival skills are important. Jesus is a survivalist!

Physical Skills: Can you physically do what you're planning to do? If you plan on running into the mountains with nothing but a back-pack with everything you need for surviving a year after marauders burn down your home after an economic collapse how big will that backpack be? Look at all the junk you have around you now, all the cool gadgets you bought for your bug-out-bag or kit. Now look at your guns, ammo, summer and winter clothing, blankets, underwear, socks, basic food. You've probably already exceeded 150lbs on your back and you pack will only carry 50lb... Now factor in your wife, girlfriend, kids, mom, dad, grandma, etc. Still going to the mountains?

Okay, we stay home... No electricity, no running water, no phone, cable, internet, satellite- whatever; some guys knocks on the door asking for food for his starving family. You have plenty, but before you can offer to help he sticks a gun in your face and two more of his buddies come to the door- now what?

Not only must we be physically capable of being mobile in a survival situation but we must also know how to fight. I don't mean just defend ourselves; I mean kick someone's ass in a bad way so they ain't following me or getting up to try again. Proficiency with firearms of several types is also a great skill to know for hunting and defense. Not just the family patriarch or head honcho needs to know this stuff either- EVERYONE needs to have at least a solid basic foundation. So mama needs to learn to kick in teeth too. Everyone needs to walk or jog the hills around them for basic endurance every now and then and everyone needs to experience at least a couple times a year how bad it sucks to pack around a 50-75lb backpack up a hill both ways.

The basic principle is- we must be physically prepared to do what is necessary when it is necessary!

Practical Survival: I'm married with four kids under age ten, the youngest being three. I had this idea that when the SHTF I would go live it out in the mountains here as long as I could. That plan was fine for me, but not at all realistic or practical for the family. One of my favorites movies is called "Defiance"; it's about a small band of Jews that his in the Polish wilderness during WWII. This small group started with four brothers and they went on to endure two years in the woods, saving over 1200 people. Looking at what they endured I had to ask myself "Could my wife and kids do the same? Could I?" My conclusion was "PROBABLY NOT"- so I changed tactics, I must plan and prepare as practically as possible where I am now. Thankfully I'm blessed with ample land out in the country an hour away from a major city; I'm uniquely placed to be able to see oncoming threats due to the layout of the property and because I'm a firefighter, I'm typically the among the first to know when something is getting ready to go down.

So, now that I know where my base camp is; what do I have available now to make surviving a reality? What can I build? What can I afford to buy? All these things must be taken into serious consideration. Many say they want cattle or goats in a survival situation; and while that's fine- I would ask if they know how to care for them when they cannot get medicines for their infections and how they will feed them when there's no feed to be had. I cannot afford to stockpile a year's worth of cattle or goat feed- it probably wouldn't last anyhow due to the way you'd have to store it. But, I can afford rabbits and chickens. Both are pretty hardy little critters and if you get the right type, they can provide a sizeable meat source. They'll eat grass and garden scraps and anything else just about.

How are you going to take the browns to a bowl game (Take a dump)? Will you dig a cat hole, make an outhouse, will you refill your toilet tank with rainwater? What's practical for you NOW? What tools do you have, what do you need, what can you afford...

Stocking food is always a great way to start any survival or preparedness program. It lets you see instant progress, serves as a reminder that you're engaged in an active project and serves as a backup grocery store for mom when she's low on something. The key is to only buy foods that you know you will eat- and buy in bulk. It's also a great idea to have at least 12 meal recipes that you can make from scratch using basic ingredients and stock up on those ingredients. Why 12? Because you'll only eat each meal twice in a given week and just about anyone can deal with that for a long time. Just add more if you like more variety- but remember to make it from food you know you'll have which means from scratch- flour, baking soda, water = bread, chicken = meat + can of green beans = meal.

I'm not a gardening ninja so I don't depend a great deal on my ability to can my own stuff. While I do can some, I have purchased most of my stocks in carts like this one from my last trip. In there we have a few dozen cans of soup, spaghetti-o's, canned ham, chicken and beef, and chicken and dumplings, corn and cool aid packets along with 25lb all purpose flour and 25lb brown sugar. We also grabbed some milk and candy for the kids this trip (on top). This cart cost $193 and will provide two+ months of readily edible food. We could easily stretch this to three+ months by making breads and by including seasonal veggies. We're not talking starving here either, two solid meals a day.

Start wherever you are able. Even if its $10 a week, start there and take that money and invest it in your survival/emergency program, it will build quickly. Gather tools that you use frequently and maintain them. Get alternatives to power tools (hand crank drills, Axe, etc!), get adequate water storage in place NOW while you have time. If you're in a city, make use of what space you have available- maybe an unused closet, under a bed, behind a sofa. In today's economy and the times in which we live, a disaster or emergency can strike at any moment and a real survival situation can be at hand. Take the time you have now to get prepared, don't wait, and start today because tomorrow may be too late.

Aesop's Fables

 THE DOG AND THE SHADOW

A DOG, crossing a bridge over a stream with a piece of flesh in his mouth, saw his own shadow in the water and took it for that of another Dog, with a piece of meat double his own in size. He immediately let go of his own, and fiercely attacked the other Dog to get his larger piece from him. He thus lost both: that which he grasped at in the water because it was a shadow; and his own, because the stream swept it away.

"Employees often lack reserves and are subject to 'exploitation' by capitalist employers."

IT IS FREQUENTLY argued that an employee is at a bargaining disadvantage when he seeks a favorable employment contract because he has less of a reserve to draw upon than does an employer. It is said that the employee needs bread for his family's supper, whereas the employer needs nothing more urgent than a new yacht. The effect of such dramatization is to draw attention from the subject of the employer-employee relationship. The employee wants the use of tools and managerial services, and the employer wants the workman's services so that together they may create something useful in exchange for bread, yachts, or whatever else either of them may choose to buy with his part of the product.

It is true that some employees have little except their weekly wages a buffer against bill collectors. And if the loss of a week's wages is that serious to a man, it may be a sign that he isn't a good enough manager or, for some other reason, prefers not to try to make a living by working at a business of his own. Thus, he is in this sense dependent upon job opportunities create by others. But in a competitive society, a person is not bound to continue working for others, nor is he bound to depend upon any one employer for an opportunity to work. Some employees of course, prefer not to change jobs; free men have that choice. Unless competition has been strangled by coercive intervention, employers will be competing against one another for the productive services of employees. This competition between employers for an employee's productive capacity is the thing that constitutes the employee's reserve, just as the reserve value of capital depends upon the competition for the use of that capital.

In this connection, it may be interesting to speculate for a moment as to just how an employee's reserve compares in dollar value with a reserve fund of capital. For instance, let us assume that a young man might reasonably expect to find regular employment for a period of forty years at an average weekly wage of $100. For a nonworking to draw a comparable income from a trust fund-assuming that it earns interest at the rate of three per cent and that the principal also is to be used up over  the period of forty years-an original capital investment of $120,000 would be required. The fact is that a man who is willing and able to work does have a kind of reserve-in a sense, a better reserve than is available to the man who has nothing except money or capital. Robinson Crusoe could have salvaged the ship's silver, but as a nonworking capitalist, he would have starved. According to the story, he saved his life by digging into his reserve capacity to work.

This same principle applies in our own king of a complex society where each of us depends more or less upon exchange for his livelihood. If a man owns a million dollars, yet refuses to offer it in trade, he may go hungry, just as an employer may be faced with hunger if he refuses to turn his services to productive use. The market does not automatically guarantee subsistence to those who stop producing and trading while waiting for a better opportunity to present itself. An employee who chooses not to work may properly complain that he has no other means of support, but he ought to confine his complaint to the person who is solely responsible for his sad plight-himself. No one else has any right to make him work, nor any moral obligation to support him in his voluntary idleness.

The employee who wants to sit until an employer comes forth with a more attractive job offer may say that he doesn't have the reserve to enforce his demand, but what he means is that he doesn't have control over other employees who are willing to accept the jobs which are offered.

The true nature of the employer-employee relationship may be understood by those who see that individuals are involved-two individuals-each of whom owns and controls something of value.

The employee is an individual who has a right to offer his services for exchange-a right which is or ought to be recognized by the employer. Labor, thus voluntarily offered by any person, is a form of property-his property-and he may offer it as a marketable commodity. If a man voluntarily offers his services for sale, that doesn't make him a slave. It is simply an expression of his right to his own life.

The employer also is a worker who has a right to offer his services for exchange. In some instances, it may happen that the employer is also the owner of capital goods-land, plant facilities, raw materials, and tools. A man has a right to own private property-as much of a right a any man can claim to the product of his services. But whether or not the employer also is the owner of productive tools and facilities, he doesn't create job opportunities for others except as he offers his own managerial services in the competitive effort to please customers. The manager offers his services, just as any other employee offers services, and the object of their bargaining is to determine a satisfactory exchange rate for what each has voluntarily offered.

What Has Really Changed?
What Has Really Changed?

1957

Tomorrow's jobs are being decided by today's profits. You could have built an open hearth steel mill 25 years ago for 10 million dollars; today it would cost 64 million. There was only one place for that added 54 million to come from-profits after taxes, carefully saved over the years. That modern mill, and the materials to keep it fed, provides 15,000 jobs. No new mill, no 15,000 jobs; no profits saved, no new mill. It's just as simple and serious as that.

For "steel mill" substitute machine shop or whatever business in which you are interested. The same principle applies-growth, expansion and, jobs can come only from profits saved and invested. And modern machines well used can improve those vital profits.

In Memory of...

FATHER Of COMBAT SWIMMING - and Man who Coined the acronym SCUBA - Christian Lambertsen, M.D. former Maj. AUS,  Inventor of Scuba Precursor, Dies at 93

Doc Chris

"When American commandos slipped into the sea off the coast of Burma in the last months of World War II and swam underwater to attach explosives to Japanese vessels, Capt. Christian J. Lambertsen often led them. After all, he had trained them to dive and had invented the breathing device that allowed them to stay below the waves...."

Father
The Father of Combat Swimming
[Ed :Note: As the Father of Combat Swing  "Doctor" Lambertsen was a great leader and friend to the entire  U.S. Combat swimming community a he was also great mentor.  As I kept in good touch with him  fairly often he was like one of those indomitable spirits that would always be here...and thus I  was shocked to learn of his passing nearly a month after he left us. A  kind of a Numbing that happens when  family or kindred souls go on to the great adventure beyond...

Without "Doctor L " most all history of Americas first SCUBA wearing combat swimming operatives would never have had the their place in Americas 's history of Combat swimming. In his later yuears  He did more to ensure the memory and legacy of the  Office of Strategic Services Mairitme Unit and its Operational Swimmers  Groups and Flotilla  Legacy would continue than any  he needed to. He created a research center for such within his offices which  I contributed greatly too and whichwe should all hope  will continue  for along time to come.

He and his Swimmers did more in 36 months to propel the United States into  combat swimming based special operations than have been done before or since. As  the defacto surviving senor officer of the Highly classified OSS Operational Swimmer Groups he was the torch the few  still left from his outfit looked to for insight.   Every SCUBA diver knows  Cousteau.   But few know the what makes Christian Lambertsen a Giant in  the underwater  world as he is the man
Jimmy And Chris
CPT.Chris Lambertsen AUS & OSS, R, wearing British Davis rebreather rig while OSS Swimmer & Coastguardsmen James Talmadge, L, wears Lambertsen's LARU MK 10 Ceylon , 1945
who invented the first really well performing system  that married itself to a established group of   free divers  whose skill sets in breath hold diving were incorporated with his SCUBA during  wartime, to become one  to create a model instruction  program that inthe post war era,  went on into navy circles world wide and became the  basis for every SCUBA  program world whether military , government or  civillian  that all divers benefit from. His LARU SCUBA rig and diving physiology  was the gold standard to which most diving physiologists or SCUBA system designers  looked up to since he stepped onto the  undersea stage over 75 years ago... and every Army , Air Force,  Coast guard Marine  and Navy SCUBA diver wheather SEAL Combat Diver /swimmer or underwater diver tech owes there existance to the work  and equipment he pioneered.
Heres to "Doctor L" and the very few that served with him !  They and HE were cut from very special cloth a one of a kind ! As a personal mentor and friend, he will be sorely missed.
"Fair winds and Following Seas Doctor Lambertsen as heaven surely awaits."

EGYPT WOKE UP

WHY HAVEN'T WE?

Friends, would you believe that Lee Iacocca is 82 years old and is still kicking butt?

Check out his latest rant:

Too right! Elections have consequences.

Just as true today as it  was when his book  first came  out. He was, and still is, a  brilliant businessman! Often we need to be  reminded of Iacocca's  words.

Remember Lee  Iacocca, the man who escued Chrysler Corporation from its death  throes?  He's now 82 years old and has a new book, 'Where  Have All The Leaders  Gone?'

Lee Iacocca  Says:

'Am I the only  guy in this country who's fed up with what's happening? Where  the hell is our outrage with this so called president? We should  be screaming bloody murder! We've got a gang of tax cheating  clueless leftists trying to steer our ship of state right over a  cliff, we've got corporate gangsters stealing us blind, and we  can't even run a ridiculous cash-for-clunkers program without  losing $26 billion of the taxpayers' money, much less build a hybrid car.

But instead of getting mad, everyone sits around and  nods their heads when the politicians say, 'trust me, the economy  is getting  better..'

Better? You've  got to be kidding. This is America , not the damned 'Titanic'.  I'll give you a sound bite: 'Throw all the Democrats out, along  with Obama!'

You might think  I'm getting senile, that I've gone off my rocker, and maybe I  have. But someone has to speak up. I hardly recognize this  country  anymore..

The most famous  business leaders are not the innovators but the guys in  handcuffs.. While we're fiddling in Afghanistan , Iran is  completing their nuclear bombs and missiles and nobody seems to  know what to do. And the liberal press is waving 'pom-poms' instead of asking hard questions.

That's not the promise of the  ' America ' my parents and yours traveled across the ocean for.  I've had enough. How about  you?

I'll go a step  further. You can't call yourself a patriot if you're not  outraged. This is a fight I'm ready and willing to have. The  Biggest 'C' is Crisis! (Iacocca elaborates on nine C's of leadership, with crisis being the  first.)

Leaders are  made, not born. Leadership is forged in times of crisis. It's  easy to sit there with thumb up your ass and talk theory. Or  send someone else's kids off to war when you've never seen a  battlefield yourself. It's another thing to lead when your world  comes tumbling  down.

On September 11,  2001, we needed a strong leader more than any other time in our  history. We needed a steady hand to guide us out of the ashes. A  hell of a mess, so here's where we stand.

We're immersed  in a bloody war now with no plan for winning and no plan for  leaving..  But our soldiers are dying  daily.

We're running  the biggest deficit in the history of the world, and it's  getting worse every  day!

We've lost the  manufacturing edge to Asia , while our once-great companies are  getting slaughtered by health care  costs.

Gas prices are  going to skyrocket again, and nobody in power has a lucid plan to  open drilling to solve the problem.  This country has the  largest oil reserves in the WORLD, and we cannot drill for it  because the politicians have been bought by the flea-hugging environmentalists.

Our schools  are in a complete disaster because of the teachers'  union.

Our borders are like sieves and they want to give all illegal's amnesty and free  healthcare.

The middle class  is being squeezed to death every  day.

These are times  that cry out for  leadership.

But, when you  look around, you've got to ask: 'Where have all the leaders  gone?' Where are the curious, creative communicators? Where are  the people of character, courage, conviction, omnipotence, and  common sense? I may be a sucker for alliteration, but I think  you get the  point..

Name me a leader  who has a better idea for homeland security than making us take off our shoes in airports and throw away our  shampoo?

We've spent  billions of dollars building a huge new bureaucracy, and all we  know how to do is react to things that have already  happened.

Everyone's  hunkering down, fingers crossed, hoping the government will make  it better for them.  Now, that's just crazy. Deal with  life.

Name me an  industry leader who is thinking creatively about how we can  restore our competitive edge in manufacturing. Who would have  believed that there could ever be a time when 'The Big Three'  referred to Japanese car companies? How did this happen, and  more important, look what Obama did about  it!

Name me a  government leader who can articulate a plan for paying down the  debt, or solving the energy crisis, or managing the health care  problem. The silence is deafening. But these are the crises that  are eating away at our country and milking the middle class  dry.

I have news for the Chicago gangsters in Congress. We didn't elect you to turn  this country into a losing European Socialist state. What is  everybody so afraid of? That some bonehead on NBC or CNN news  will call them a name? Give me a break. Why don't you guys show  some spine for a  change?

Had Enough? Hey,  I'm not trying to be the voice of gloom and doom here.  I'm  trying to light a fire. I'm speaking out because I have hope - I  believe in America .. In my lifetime, I've had the privilege of  living through some of America's greatest moments.  I've also experienced some of our worst crises: The 'Great  Depression,' 'World War  II,' the 'Korean War,' the  'Kennedy Assassination,' the 'Vietnam War,' the 1970's oil  crisis, and the struggles of recent years since  9/11.

Make your own  contribution by sending this to everyone you know and care  about. It's our country, folks, and it's our future. Our future  is at  stake!!

Top Shot: British Sniper Takes Out Two Taliban With Single Bullet

On a remote road in the notoriously dangerous Helmand Province of Afghanistan, the bodies of two dead Taliban soldiers lay in the dust - one a known insurgent commander. But the scene doesn't tell the amazing story behind the expert marksman who pulled off the "Quigley," a trick shot deriving its name from a Tom Selleck cowboy film. Two dead with just one bullet.

From a distance of 196 meters away, British sniper "Mark Osmond" picked off the two insurgents as they tried to flee on a motorcycle.

The circumstances are described in a new book, "Dead Men Risen: The Welsh Guards and the Real Story of Britain's War in Afghanistan":

'On September 12, a known Taliban commander appeared on the back of a motorcycle with a passenger riding pillion.

'There was a British patrol in the village of Gorup-e Shesh Kalay and under the rules of engagement, the walkie-talkie the Taliban pair were carrying was designated a hostile act.

'As they drove off, Osmond fired warning shots with his pistol and then picked up his L96, the same weapon - serial number 0166 - he had used in Iraq and on the butt of which he had written, "I love u 0166".

'Taking deliberate aim, he fired a single shot. The bike tumbled and both men fell onto [sic] the road and lay there motionless.

'When the British patrol returned, they checked the men and confirmed they were both dead, with large holes through their heads.

'The 7.62 mm bullet Osmond had fired had passed through the heads of both men. He had achieved the rare feat of "one shot, two kills" known in the sniping business as "a Quigley."' ...

'The snipers used suppressors, reducing the sound of the muzzle blast. Although a ballistic crack could be heard, it was almost impossible to work out where the shot was coming from.

'With the bullet travelling at three times the speed of sound, a victim was unlikely to hear anything before he died.

"Osmond" and his colleague "Potter" were praised by their company commander as the "epitome of the thinking riflemen" his regiment sought to produce.  "They know the consequences of what they're doing and they are very measured men.  They are both highly dedicated to the art of sniping.  They're both quiet, softly spoken, utterly charming, two of the nicest men in the company, if the most dangerous."
