When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton I was in Weapons Company 3/5. The unit made us t-shirts with the 3/5 logo/emblem/crest, "Consumate Professionals". I was honorable discharged in 1999 and the t-shirt has been long-gone. I searched a couple of web site to find a shirt with the logo/emblem/crest but there was no luck. It didn't take me long to search this site before I found what I was looking for. When the shirt arrived it was better than what I expected. I love the t-shirt and wear it with pride and often. Thank you for being so prompt with my order, and the refund as well.

I thought a little constructive thoughts were in order.

The "HRT" boot knife is well constructed. I had to "hone" the edge though, both sides,to get it up to spec.

As for the "GI USMC Combat Knife"......Well, it wasn't really a K-Bar, at least not one that I've ever seen. It read "US", and above that it read "Ontario". No worries though, after I used a ceramic sharpening stone on both the small back edge and the full length edge, I'm quite pleased with them both. Oh, I almost forgot, both were very pretty well balanced.

I'll be purchasing again from you in the near future.

Freedom is mans most precious commodity providing self determination which is more precious then peace. Freedom allows individuals to face the unknown with courage and discover, invent and adapt to challenges beyond what one can imagine. Our own history is a testament to that. When people are given freedom they will often surprise you with their creativity.
 

History tells us for both individuals and countries once you are free you have to fight to keep your freedom. One would ask why with the track record freedom has for accomplishment do people try and take it away. There are many petty reasons like envy, laziness, etc. all the way to self righteousness leading the way. But in the end no matter the motivation it is all about people wanting to control other people to impose there will on them.
 

The mature warrior knows that freedom always comes with a high price. It is purchased with the sacrifice of life, blood, limbs, fortunes and often everything one has to give. George Washington, the father of our country knew all to well that our freedom and independence was a gift from the grace of God-a feeling shared by many of the founding fathers. Many referred to it as providence from God and they demonstrated their belief in these words of our Declaration of Independence, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness".  Of course all men are created equal was not meant in the literal sense but in opportunity. Unfortunately too many - for too long-have ignored the source of our freedom and have demonstrated a lack of appreciation and respect for freedom which is causing us to lose our freedom at an unprecedented pace. It is only by renewing our relationship with the source of our freedom that we can hope to regain it.

Unfortunately it is only when freedom is lost that we truly understand the value of freedom. There are many things running amuck in our country too numerous to name, but I would like to single out two popular goals people adopt in the name of good that are a direct assault on freedom and have proven most effective in brain washing society conditioning them for slavery.
 

They are peace and equality. These two unachievable goals in our time are perhaps the most misunderstood.

First I will start with peace and this principle that the wise warrior understands all to well. "There is no peace without freedom and there is no freedom without war"


This principle is reality verses ignorance. War is a reality and this fact cannot be changed by man. People get fooled by technological advances and have ignored the truth in this principle that the heart of man never changes and as long as this is true we will continue to have conflict. War demands strength and victory. The best way to deal with war is to be victorious. People have ignored the truth in our last decisive victory during WWII when we dropped the atom bomb on Japan. They hold the atom bomb in awe, fear, and guilt but never put it in perspective with other events. In the Battle of Cannae in the 2nd Punic WarHannibal killed as many Romans as Japanese were killed in Hiroshima and more then Nagasaki this was done with spears, swords, and arrows in a time when the world was less populated. In 1937 at the "Rape of Nan-king" the Japanese brutally slaughtered most 300,000 Chinese in a period of 6 weeks-more than three times the number of people killed by the 2 atom bombs. The earthquake that generated the great Indian Ocean tsunami of 2004 is estimated to have released the energy of 23,000 Hiroshima-type atomic bombs, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). More than 225,000 people were dead or missing and millions more were homeless in 11 countries from an earth quake.


Here is a quick list to put the atom bomb into perspective: 

  • Mao Ze-Dong (China, 1958-61 and 1966-69, Tibet 1949-50)  =  49-78 million murdered 
  •  Jozef Stalin (USSR, 1932-39)  =  23 million  (the purges plus Ukraine's famine) murdered
  •  Adolf Hitler (Germany, 1939-1945)  =  12 million (concentration camps and civilians WWII)   murdered
  •  Hideki Tojo (Japan, 1941-44) = 5 million (civilians in WWII) mostly murdered 
  •  Fumimaro Konoe (Japan, 1937-39) = 1 million estimated Chinese civilians murdered 
  •  Ismail Enver (Turkey, 1915-20)  =  1.2 million Armenians (1915) + 350,000 Greek Pontians and     480,000 Anatolian Greeks (1916-22) + 500,000 Assyrians (1915-20) murdered
  •  Pol Pot (Cambodia, 1975-79)  =  1.7 million murdered 
  •  Kim Il Sung (North Korea, 1948-94)  =  1.6 million (purges and concentration camps) murdered 
  •  Menghistu (Ethiopia, 1975-78)  =  1.5 million murdered 
  •  Leonid Brezhnev (Afghanistan, 1979-1982)  =  900,000 murdered 
  •  Saddam Hussein (Iran 1980-1990 and Kurdistan 1987-88)  =  600,000 murdered 
  •  Jean Kambanda (Rwanda, 1994)  =  800,000 murdered most of us witnessed this spectacle on TV 
  •  Mullah Omar - Taliban (Afghanistan, 1986-2001)  =  400,000 murdered
  •   Idi Amin (Uganda, 1969-1979)  =  300,000 murdered Yahya Khan (Pakistan, 1970-71)  =  300,000 (Bangladesh) murdered

When we put the atom bomb in perspective... there are more destructive things than the atom bomb and evil ideologies and tyrants seem to lead the list. So I say what's the big deal with the atom bomb? Yes people will make their petty arguments. But the reality is when truth is ignored and forgotten man is much more dangerous then the atom bomb which ended a war and brought peace through military victory to the United States and saved countless lives (Truman estimated 300,000 American soldiers lives were saved) not to mention Japan was better off ending the dominance Boshido and the worship and rule of a mere man their emperor thought to be an invincible god. Peace is the prize of victory in war and is maintained through strength. Ignorance and arrogance is to think peace can be achieved through appeasement and weakness.
 

In no time in human history has peace been achieved without fighting for it. That is a fact of history and reality. When truth and reality are forgotten or ignored progress and innovation always end in disaster. War is serious business and should always be engaged in with total victory in mind. If not the consequences are severe and far reaching.

We have a tendency to only look at the negatives of war and ignore the positives. If one would look at war objectively they would find that the positives out-weigh the negatives in victory. I am not talking about false economic benefits people sight but of the advances in medicine and technology such as microwave, internet, GPS as well as the character of the nation being put to the test.  War brings out the worst in man and the best in man.

The second most misunderstood goal I have chosen to talk about is equality. Freedom and equality cannot coexist in our world. It becomes a question of truth and reality versus ignorance and arrogance again. Truth and reality shows us there is no equality. The only equality that can exist is in equal opportunity under freedom which does not produce equal results. If you believe in God as the creator of all things you can see that nothing especially us have been created equal. If you are a humanist and believe in mother-nature or the natural you will see that there is no equality in nature either, it is often "survival of the fittest". "Equality is achieved only through coercion and slavery." Why does man think he can achieve equality when there is no equality? The quick answer is ignorance and arrogance. The long answer is a diabolical scheme to get people to surrender their freedom and individualism to those that want to impose their will and control over mankind. Today in our country socialism under the guise of equality is gobbling up our freedom at an unprecedented pace in our country. It is selling itself to us as social justice, fair play and keeping us safe. But these are clever lies designed to fool the ignorant. These things especially appeal to the envious cowards and lazy who are more than willing to trade liberty for security and take a free ride on the success and hard work of others. They are told it is their right and they are entitled to things they have not earned and it sounds good to them. Of course we know that the ones pushing this agenda have no intention of playing by their own rules. Their true purpose is to control everyone.
 

What would be the fun in sports if no one wins? Why should you work hard if you are not rewarded? Equality kills incentive and most important to know equality kills freedom. Any attempt to achieve equality destroys freedom and self determination our most valuable possessions.

The consequences of complacency and apathy are, indeed, dependency and bondage.
 

In 1916, a minister and outspoken advocate for liberty, William J. H. Boetcker, published a pamphlet entitled "The Ten Cannots" which fittingly contrasts the competing political and economic factions of our day.

  2. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
  3. You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich.
  4. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

  6. You cannot help small men by tearing down big men.
  7. You cannot lift the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer.
  8. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than your income.
  9. You cannot establish security on borrowed money.
  10. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they will not do for themselves.
     

It is a hard, undeniable truth that the federal government cannot give to anybody what it does not first take from somebody else, and the power to do so is ruinous. As Thomas Jefferson wrote: "We must "prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people, under the pretence of taking care of them."

Slavery Starts In the Mind

 

For us as individuals It is our mind set that preserves freedom. If we are arrogant, full of pride with big egos we will imprison, blind and enslave our minds but if we resist indulging in arrogance using humility (teach ability) we will free our minds to learn, be objective, make good choices, change our opinion on things, use common sense and apply wisdom.

 

We must resist the forces both internal and external committed to taking our freedom and enslaving us. It is only through knowledge of truth and the principals that stand the test of time that can guide and keep us oriented to the right path "Freedom"

Messiah

  

The Hebrew Bible has much to say about the Messiah, the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.  There are over 300 prophesies of the Messiah listed.

Jesus said, "Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."  The Internet is an amazing communications vehicle that empowers individuals to bridge thousands of miles in an instant - connecting people from all nations.  This website has a twofold purpose: 1) to be a witness to those who do not yet believe that Jesus is the holy Son of God, the Messiah foretold in the Hebrew Scriptures, and 2) to be a faith-builder and reference tool for those who do believe in Jesus and have accepted Him as their Lord and Savior.

 

A key objective of this website is to present a comprehensive single source of all prophecies related to the first coming of God's promised Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth.  Prophecies exclusively related to His second coming are not covered.  Another objective was to leverage the hypertext medium that the web offers to make the prophecies easily accessible, with enough link options to create an environment and experience that cannot be replicated from reading books alone.  Finally, because this website is centered on the Hebrew portion of God's word, the graphic theme for the site is Jewish.  All of the graphic symbols used point to Jesus as the fulfillment of God's plan outlined hundreds and thousands of years before his birth.  Jesus said, "I am the vine, ye are the branches," and so all believers are "grafted" into a common spiritual heritage with the Jewish people.

 

Different aspects of the truth of Jesus of Nazareth appeal to different people.  For some, the grace and power of his words go straight to their hearts, as John 7:46 says, "... Never man spake like this man."  For others, it is fulfilled prophecy that is most impactful.  In Acts 2:14-41 the events are recorded of how the apostle Peter used prophecy from the Hebrew Scriptures to testify to a group of Jewish people that Jesus was the Messiah.  Three thousand people became believers in Jesus on that day.  Prophecy is used by God to bring people to salvation.  As much as two-thirds of the Bible is related to prophecy; it is important to God.  Fulfilled prophecy shows us the existence of God, that He has a plan, that He is in control, that He is the only God, and that He expects us to study His word.

 

Jesus says, "Search the Scriptures; for in them ye think you have eternal life: and they are which testify of me," and "Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, has everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life."

 

To God's chosen, the Jewish people, this site says that Jesus of Nazareth is your Messiah, the fulfillment of the Hebrew Scriptures:

Stop the Violence
 

 
The clichés are abundant "Cluster Cop" killing, "Active shooters", the "Lone Wolf", "Suicide by Cop" and all the others. These clichés are catchy and they all attract various authors, articles and training opinions. I for one am tired of the clichés. I am tired of so many officers getting shot and brutally assaulted as others try and make sense of the violence.

The Bitter Truth:
 
Here is what 20 years of police work has taught me, "evil men do evil things". I appreciate the call for research to identify the reasons why the increase in violence against cops is occurring. The problem is it will take some time if not years to develop and implement. The stone cold truth of what it will take, if we want this violence to stop starts in City Hall. The man in the suit running the city will need to start making those unpopular decisions, a strong back bone, an unwavering commitment to support the concept of law enforcement, support his officers and their police departments against the trend of cutting budgets, layoffs, staffing shortages, and ignoring training & equipment problems.

When the "Suites" in this country make this transition then our police agencies can get the unpopular bullet proof glass in the station lobby, issue the unpopular "assault" rifle (as they refer to them) with every handgun, purchase level III ballistic vests & helmets for every officer, issue a Taser with every badge, and stop cutting the training budgets so every officer can get the proper training.  If these starch collars can pull their heads out of the sand then we can make a serious attempt to reduce the violence against our uniformed men and women.

An Over Glamorized Profession:Another concerning observation is that the latest generation grew up watching the popular television series "COPS" and other police shows. It seemed like the 90's glamorized police work. That isn't necessarily bad however; a generation of kids grew up watching these cops always winning their battles. This generation may have volunteered for this job with a clouded perception of an over glamorized profession. In the 70's and 80's men and woman took the oath when pay was horrible and it was cool to hate the cops. These men and woman volunteered because they truly wanted to fight evil. Today we have a mix of the two wearing the badge. Some do it for the glamour and some do it to fight the good fight. The glamour cop; you know who you are, you don't wear your vest, you avoid training like the plague, you post yourself all over the social networks in uniform, you never volunteer for any specialty assignment because its more work, you drive slow to calls were you might get hurt as other cops go flying past you to watch your partners six. You are doing yourself a disservice and most importantly you are endangering other cops. Do us a favor, remove yourself from the Warrior ranks and find a more suitable profession.

Situational Awareness:
 
Whether you're responding to patrol runs or simply speaking to a citizen, a heightened state of situational awareness can greatly maximize your chances for survival. This alone won't stop active aggression however; your reaction to an attack plays a key role in the outcome. When an officer loses the heightened state of situational awareness they are more vulnerable to attack. Simply because making correct tactical decisions when confronted with an assault requires you to process through the OODA Loop. That may only take a fraction of a second however, that may be all your adversary needs to strike first. At a minimum, that state of mind can contribute to factors, which could lead to a violent attack. Let's face it; an officer that appears unsure of himself and timid most likely has a greater chance of being assaulted.    When you respond to a domestic situation you gather as much information as possible before you arrive, you wait for back up, you grab your baton, check your Taser and enter the home with your hand on your gun. When you speak to the involved parties, you stand in a combat stance, speak with authority, watch your partner with your peripheral vision, and your hand grips the pistol grip and readies to unlock the retention strap in a split second. If you don't do these things, you are whom I was speaking of earlier.We have programmed ourselves through training to react this way at a domestic call. This type of response is a heightened state of "situational awareness". When you leave that domestic call you may drive down the street and park in a parking lot to type your report and you then let your heightened state of situational awareness dissipate. Just about that time some dude approaches your cruiser and it appears he needs directions. You roll down the window and ask the guy "how can I help you"?

Almost every time it's a non-confrontational conversation. However, you grew up watching those television shows and you never saw a guy pull a gun out of his pocket to murder the unsuspecting, willing to help cop, so you just sit there unprepared for a possible attack and answer the mans questions. That could be your last conversation. You must maintain a heighten state of situational awareness in all you do when wearing that uniform. When somebody approaches my cruiser to speak with me my first instinct is to jump out of the car as quickly as possible, if I have enough time. If that's possible then I will speak to the individual as a professional. What that individual doesn't know is that I am in a combat stance, my hand is on my gun and holster ready to draw, I am watching his hands and eyes. I am in a heightened state of situational awareness. If you don't have time to get out of the cruiser place the car in drive and put your foot on the brake, draw your handgun and place it in your lap, and watch the hands and eyes of the person talking with you constantly because it's the hands that will harm you. Not a perfect situation that you're facing but so often these predators are ambushing us when we least expect it. That's what makes them so hard to prevent. These are only two examples of many possible scenarios that could occur on the street. Don't get me wrong this idea of a constant heightened state of situational awareness won't stop a person from attacking you but they may think twice about striking if they feel they may lose the fight. Even if they do strike, there's no doubt in my mind that you're in a better position to respond and that will increase your chances to survive the battle. No matter if you're in a coffee shop or taking a suspicious person report, this state of heightened situational awareness needs to embody your every move. The military has done extensive research on situational awareness and they train our soldiers to great lengths. It's pretty obvious if you're a combat soldier in a war zone you better be dialed in with a great sense of heightened situational awareness or your dead. How does that differ from the everyday duties of the uniformed cop? The recent past has taught us that evil men will attack us in coffee shops, at the front desk of the police lobby, sitting in your cruiser typing a report and every other non threatening task we do an a daily basis.  Accountability:For the past several years the suits have cut the training and equipment budgets to the point of laughable proportions from a cop's perspective. The problem is they haven't walked a day in our shoes and beans are beans to them. Mayors, City Managers and City Councils all talk the talk but behind closed political doors policing in America is run like a business. That may be one of the greatest contributing factors in this equation and I hope these studies include these factors into their million-dollar research. If you agree that we must conduct ourselves tactically like a combat soldier but with a professional response and a courteous smile then the policy makers need to stop running police departments like a commercial business and run it for what it is. The military runs their branches of service like the war machines that they are. They are well equipped, well trained and have great resources.  Leave it to us to walk that Thin Blue line of violence and professional police service.  We are peacekeepers that are willing to combat evil men at the expense of our own lives. We don't do this for glamour or money. It's hard to verbalize to a sheep the inner calling we feel when we chose this profession. This is why they will grieve with us when an officer is murdered but behind closed doors they are so willing to neglect their duties to provide us with money, equipment, training and other resources.

Reality:

 
No matter how much money or training you throw at this problem of increasing cop violence the reality is if an evil man wants to ambush you he will. He has the greatest advantage at his disposal. He has the element of surprise. Evil men know police are reactive to confrontations. The way to minimize this advantage is a heightened state of awareness and preparation. Assuming that everybody you come into contact with may be a potential threat can help you recognize an ambush before it occurs.  

The Future:

 
As time passes and theses studies draw their conclusions more cops will be assaulted and murdered. The Suits will sympathize with our cause as they offer support but behind closed doors they will continue to think of schemes to save money at our expense. The great articles of fact-finding will be published and the officer's tactics and decisions will be scrutinized at great lengths. We will be required to be even greater super heroes than that which is already expected of us. Once I sought a legal opinion from an attorney regarding an officer involved shooting. After months of being delayed he finally responded with "It's taken me a long time to research this so I could get this correct. I want the officers to have the correct answer". Although his intentions were noble my reply was laughter, and then I said "funny, you got months to get this right and my officers had seconds". This is the super hero world we work in and when it costs us our life the clichés, finger pointing and studies are abundant.      Here is the simple truth "evil men roam this earth and evil men do evil things". In the end, when time has passed nothing will have changed except, that the Peace Keepers will be ready to battle evil on our own terms.

thus avoid any serious depression."

 

A PERSISTENT COMPLAINT against the capitalist system of competitive private enterprise is that it leads to periodic booms and busts. The implication is that businessmen either want to promote depression or that they are powerless to prevent it. Further implied is that some other system-invariably a form of socialistic intervention-would stimulate continuous growth and progress and feature automatic stabilizing devices to offset and forestall any threatened depression.

 

Long favored among the tools of political intervention is the oft discredited but never abandoned scheme of subsidizing farmers, on the ground that one prosperous farmer will generate a contagious prosperity among at least half a dozen urban dwellers. This myth was perhaps most widely circulated and implemented some thirty years ago, but it was still being promoted by at least one of the presidential candidates in the fall of 1960. Meanwhile, farm subsidies have increased until they exceed in annual amount the combined earnings of all operators in the subsidized segments of American agriculture! That could scarcely be called farm prosperity, hence, little stimulation for the rest of the economy; and it seems fair to conclude that this antidepression device doesn't work.

 

A more modern variation on the same theme, patriotically camouflaged as national defense, is the foreign aid program into which the federal government has poured nearly 100 billion dollars at taxpayers' expense since the end of World War II. But this overseas pump-priming has neither won friends to defend us in case of war nor strengthened our domestic economy. Instead of bringing domestic prosperity, it brought us inflation and the pricing of American goods and services out of foreign markets. Foreign subsidy is no better than farm subsidy as an antidepression stimulant for the home front.

 

Social security is often mentioned among the measures to combat depression. Yet, the Congress has been hard-pressed to keep the boosts in social security benefits coming fast enough to squeeze the beneficiaries through a prolonged period of fairly good times. It is inconceivable that the system has left in it any further priming power to be released in case of depression.

 

Other touted political antidepressants include such federal building and spending projects as post offices, hospitals, schools, highways, dams, and similar welfare measures to aid depressed areas. But like social security, these priming devices also have been pushed to their limit in a frantic effort to keep the economy standing still at boomtide. Who is to provide subsidies in anything like comparable amounts in case of a depression?   

 

The planners' ultimate weapon to combat depression is deficit financing-government spending in excess of tax collection. But this weapon depends for its effectiveness on a blind patriotic faith in the integrity of the government and its ability to make good on its debts. Unfortunately, perhaps, the real power to challenge the soundness of the American dollar today is not in the hands of "patriotic American citizens," but in the hands of foreigners who currently hold dollar claims equal to the entire stock of gold supposed to back our paper money. So it would seem that even the ultimate weapon against depression has been proved a dud, of no help in an emergency.

 

The gist of it all is that the capitalistic free market system has been falsely blamed for booms and busts that in reality have been the result of government intervention, subsidy, deficit financing, and inflationary tampering with money and credit. The only kind of a boom a businessman can generate is to "build a better mousetrap," and the only person he can "bust" is himself.

 

Economy-wide booms and busts can be generated only by a great power-government itself. The cure for these is to turn the management of business back to businessmen and consumers guided by the free market. Let government confine itsel to policing the market-protecting production and exchange against fraud and violence.

The loss of former Major Dick Winters marks another milestone in the passing of a Giant in American Soldiering.  

 

A tough yet dynamic leader, Dick Winters served an extraordinary tour of combat as the commander of Easy Company 506th Rgt., 101st Airborne from Normandy to Austria in WW II, before then returning to the life of a peaceful country farmer.  To anyone who ever served under him or knew him, he was more than an extraordinary warrior leader, but a rare natural wise one at that. His own words and the words of his men are meant to give one a brief glimpse into the essence of how brilliant American soldiering leadership, is, in its purest form, a style which Dick Winters  -- like many others before and after him --  personified nearly seven decades ago... a Creed , if you  which all future  Free Soldier Citizens can  expound  upon:

 

"If you can, find that peace within yourself, that peace and quiet and confidence that you can pass on to others, so that they know that you are honest and you are fair and will help them, no matter what, when the chips are down."

A Warrior of fitness named Jack

 

So Fair D-Boy or DevGru operator; ODA  member or SEAL;  PJ or  MARSOC  man; MSST Guardsman  or   Force Marine.. Let alone you other fit HRT,    Secret Service and Agency SAD types... THink your fairly fit ? Hmmm?

When it comes to fitness and Longevity  who is tops,  just know that the late great  Francois Henri "Jack" LaLanne (September 26, 1914 - January 23, 2011) was an American fitness, exercise, and nutritional expert and motivational speaker who is sometimes called "the godfather of fitness" and the "first fitness superhero.


 

He was a honorable serving sailor with  U.S. Navy in World War  II and a special force in physical nature. Due to an accident in his teens leaving him with a bum knee,  he could not do a full squat.  Though he so impressed the doctors with his push-ups and handstands , skirted by the induction medical personnel and gained an enlistment. looked like a body builder his 3 hour daily regime was not about steroids and showing off.  he regularly did  hi rep weight  circuits with double his body weight until he was into his late seventies. He influenced a whole lot of American citizens to be fit and American operators to be fitter and eat better. He was unbeatable at what he preached and did. SEALs talk of their Rudy Boesch as the fittest frogman to span many decades of SEAL operating;  Like Rudy,  Jack LaLanne's humility did not have him boast of his feats -- though no one ever out did jack in push-ups of any kind!  Even then he think of thought of his old training buddy the also late, great Walt Stack as the fittest man ( see interview with Jack in Playboy magazine  mid 1980's  where he refers to the late great Walt Stack as the fittest man..)

 

Nevertheless, Jack outlived outlived Walt -  and while he aged,  Jack's feats surpassed  most of the fittest special operators, SEALs and PJ's included. So when you throw in the towel for retirement at 38 step up to the plate and see if youc an maintain what he did until  ages 70...and 96 years old.   

  • 1954 (age 40): swam the entire length (8,981 ft/1.7 mi) of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, under water, with 140 pounds (64 kg; 10 st) of air tanks and other equipment strapped to his body; a world record.
  • 1955 (age 41): swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco while handcuffed. When interviewed afterwards he was quoted as saying that the worst thing about the ordeal was being handcuffed, which significantly reduced his chance to do a jumping jack.
  • 1956 (age 42): set a world record of 1,033 push-ups in 23 minutes on You Asked For It,[31] a television program hosted by Art Baker.
  • 1957 (age 43): swam the Golden Gate channel while towing a 2,500-pound (1,100 kg; 180 st) cabin cruiser. The swift ocean currents turned this one-mile (1.6 km) swim into a swimming distance of 6.5 miles (10.5 km).
  • 1958 (age 44): maneuvered a paddleboard nonstop from Farallon Islands to the San Francisco shore. The 30-mile (48 km) trip took 9.5 hours.
  • 1959 (age 45): did 1,000 star jumps and 1,000 chin-ups in 1 hour, 22 minutes and The Jack LaLanne Show went nationwide.
  • 1974 (age 60): For the second time, he swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf. Again, he was handcuffed, but this time he was also shackled and towed a 1,000-pound (450 kg; 71 st) boat.
  • 1975 (age 61): Repeating his performance of 21 years earlier, he again swam the entire length of the Golden Gate Bridge, underwater and handcuffed, but this time he was shackled and towed a 1,000-pound (450 kg; 71 st) boat.
  • 1976 (age 62): To commemorate the "Spirit of '76", United States Bicentennial, he swam one mile (1.6 km) in Long Beach Harbor. He was handcuffed and shackled, and he towed 13 boats (representing the 13 original colonies) containing 76 people.[32]
  • 1979 (age 65): towed 65 boats in Lake Ashinoko, near Tokyo, Japan. He was handcuffed and shackled, and the boats were filled with 6,500 pounds (2,900 kg; 460 st) of Louisiana Pacific wood pulp.[33]
  • 1980 (age 66): towed 10 boats in North Miami, Florida. The boats carried 77 people, and he towed them for over one mile (1.6 km) in less than one hour.
  • 1984 (age 70): handcuffed, shackled, and fighting strong winds and currents, towed 70 rowboats, one with several guests, from the Queen's Way Bridge in the Long Beach Harbor to the Queen Mary, 1 mile

( For the record: as a fit warrior , the  father of Special Forces,   Aaron Bank, after he retired at age 50 ...swam  in the ocean around San Clemente, Ca.  Pier near daily until he was 75, going on  to live and worked out till 101  fit as a fiddle )  So keep it up Operators!

LaLanne's Influence

 

Though not a G.I. warrior, he was the spiritual leader of all fit individuals from World Two to present day - many of whom during wartime became fit commandos.  Jack LaLanne, the Fitness pioneer who died in  mid January 2011, was a special force who truly innovated  how we look at fitness and whose teachings and mentoring spawned several generations of super fit athlete warriors , who never knew he was the one man who never gave up on us,  or himself as from the shadows preached a fitter America: In fact he once  preached fitness to a 14 year old kid who later grew into an  Olympic caliber athlete and frogman  who  is a close associate  to SF Gear,  much as the great pioneer of nutrition  and fitness  Paul Bragg did to Jack  when he was a kid .  As a Ironic note this writer also knows of a class mate of Jacks who still alive  and mobile is sad to have learned of his school chums passing.. and like jack at 96 has also lived life of fitness and good living. His spirit is with us all and St. Peter knows he's probably up there right now leading all the old warriors in Push up routines!! Rest in Peace Jack. You deserve it for all you gave!

LONDON (Reuters) - British composer John Barry, who won five Oscars and is best known for creating music for the James Bond movies, has died. He was 77.

"It is with great sadness that the family of composer John Barry announce his passing on January 30, 2011 in New York," his family said in a statement released by Bond production company EON Productions.

"Mr. Barry is survived by his wife Laurie of 33 years and his four children and five grandchildren."

"John Barry was James Bond. That's James Bond musically.  By that I mean that like the hero which his music made almost real, his true gentleman musician was gifted with a genius that made him the Einstein of the commercial motion picture musical soundtrack from the early 1960's onward. A special force of nature, his influence was like a Bond style, Royal Marine SBS Commando op, on to the pop culture music and film the moment any of us first heard it. His scores and sounds with 007 pushed Elvis and the Beatles aside for a bit, giving those of us patriots who believe one man can make a difference, a view that the world of the fictional British secret agent was alive in revolutionary stereophonic, highly popular way. So much so,  that for all the evil and doom the cold war was weaving back then ,  no one could beat  we Yanks and Brits as long as 007's music filled our brains. Barry's genius with the Bond film music was how he married traditional dramatic film scores with popular jazz, rock or regional music sounds that -- if only rarely blended before --  were indeed,  never so dynamic  and dramatically combined as when Barry  met Bond.  Recently another obscure expert in the world of 007 Randall Roberts said how "[Barry 's Bond music went on to ]...define the feel of the Bond films but crafted music that served as a 1960s soundtrack to a new kind of jet-setting lifestyle. With his wildly adventurous arrangements and instrumentation, his music's devil-may-care feel will forever be connected to fashionably mod cocktail lounges of the era...." With Barry's Bond scores showcasing his diverse range: big bands, guitar riffs, sweeping strings and jazz and Latin beats, one can wager that most spy movies that have followed took their music que's from Barry's music and Bonds screen exploits into their own. Without Barry's brilliant composing and arranging,  Bond Films would later only briefly dash in and out of moments of trendy, un-lasting momentary hip  and glory , that could never match the mastery and brilliant cool Barry gave the world of 007 under his watch. Despite his many many other equally wonderful film music  soundtracks which he additionally composed renowned for his lush strings, orchestral swells and elegant melodies From "Zulu" and" Born Free" to  "Dances With Wolves", it will always be the 007 films that truly defined  iconic because of a style that was quintessential John  Barry's... and thus James Bond's. Think about it:  Barry's music thematically set a standard  for imagery and music for  all film  heroes  that followed.  Find a movie soundtrack with a magic most all generations feel when they here the cool Barry arranged  Vic Flick guitar of the James  Bond  theme? Or the gallant stacacato of his 007 theme?  Let alone, the cold war of the Balkans via trumpets and Guitar strings  in From Russia With Love? Or  The subtle harp strings contrasting Shirley Basseys beyond bold voice in Goldfinger? Or the underwater world opened to us via drums and harpsichord in Thunderball ?  Or The traditional Japan music with swelling strings of You Only Live Twice ?  Diamonds Are Forever' s brassy Las Vegas ? Or the majestic and timeless Alpine feel of French horns and synthesizer in  On Her Majesty's Secret Service  ? Some say culturally the Bond film is dead. Not at all! Though John Barry is dead, Bond will always be alive forever in the hearts and ears of all of us due to a man called Barry , John Barry whose standard can never be beat . Rest in peace noble gent!

Barry was one of the greats. His music was the soul of James Bond, especially during the '60s, but he was more than just a spy soundtrack master -- he was a versatile composer who brought his distinctive musical style to an array of films, from Born Free to Midnight Cowboy to The Cotton Club. R.I.P. John, you gave us so much and you will be missed.

There is no end of commentaries on the recent murders in Arizona, resulting in the usual debates.  Pundits argue over whether there should be stricter gun laws, whether talk radio, the movies, or "extremism" contributed to the tragedy, and, most obtusely, what the government should do to prevent a similar incident from occurring again. What is lost is the fact that this tragedy provides yet more proof of something that has been demonstrated to Americans repeatedly over the past decade. The government cannot protect you from the harsh realities of life.
