I am a Cpl. in the Army and just returned from Iraq. I carried my shotgun all year on my back in your shotgun scabbard, and it worked great! I was glad to have it around several times, and it proved to be an easy way to keep the shotgun handy for the squad. Thanks for your great product, and for your support of our troops!!

(already the guys are asking who to order one from, so you might be getting a few more requests!!!).

Dear SF company.

Thank-you for sending another t-shirt it looks great the boys in the unit will want one when they see it. I'll be sending them right to you.

Thanks again.

Another happy customer
Bob Miller

When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton I was in Weapons Company 3/5. The unit made us t-shirts with the 3/5 logo/emblem/crest, "Consumate Professionals". I was honorable discharged in 1999 and the t-shirt has been long-gone. I searched a couple of web site to find a shirt with the logo/emblem/crest but there was no luck. It didn't take me long to search this site before I found what I was looking for. When the shirt arrived it was better than what I expected. I love the t-shirt and wear it with pride and often. Thank you SpecialForces.com

Most Sincerely,
Bryan P.

Thank you!!!

Your Shirts are the best.

Andreas

Dear SFG,

Thank you for being so prompt with my order, and the refund as well.

I thought a little constructive thoughts were in order.

The "HRT" boot knife is well constructed. I had to "hone" the edge though, both sides,to get it up to spec.

As for the "GI USMC Combat Knife"......Well, it wasn't really a K-Bar, at least not one that I've ever seen. It read "US", and above that it read "Ontario". No worries though, after I used a ceramic sharpening stone on both the small back edge and the full length edge, I'm quite pleased with them both. Oh, I almost forgot, both were very pretty well balanced.

I'll be purchasing again from you in the near future.

Sincerely,
Ed Whiteside

Dear Special Forces

I received my order i have to say that is better than i expected! Thank you and you'll hear fom me soon.

PARASCHOS

They turned out GREAT!!!!!! Thanks. I will be back for other things.

Thanks Folks. As always you have been most polite and professional. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Steve,

OMG! That looks awesome! Is there any logo on the front? Can I buy these off the website? I'm sure a lot of SWCC guys are going to want these!

Thank you,

Amanda Van Every

Dave,

We love the art work. They are awesome. I'll be ordering mine right after this. Thanks for all the work. I am recommending you guys to all the other battalions and ODA's.

The Warrior's Power Comes from
His Ability to Make Good Decisions

Choices and Good DecisionsHuman history is the record of man's thoughts, decisions, actions, and motivations.

This month's topic is on "The Power of Decisions". Warriors learn as they mature that we are all products of our own decisions and our Nation is the product of the people's cumulative decisions.

Nothing has become more apparent to me in these troubling times than the consequences of the decisions now being made by our leaders and by the collective voting block of our country.

The decisions we make hold great power in our lives so I would like to share this Warrior's thoughts on decisions.

First a Warrior must learn that "Decisions create environment and environment does not create decisions".

This is very important to understand if the Warrior wants to take control of his life.

In battle things can develop fast and situations are fluid meaning constantly changing. The cause for that changing environment is all the decisions being made from the top to the bottom. In battle each decision can mean the difference of life and death and between winning and losing. The source of the decisions can go back so far that they are often untraceable but for the soldier it started with decisions made in training, preparation and planning carried into battle where each decision holds both short term and long term consequences. When I think about all the famous battles I often think of how one decision could have changed history and I am sure all of you can think of a time where one decision had a tremendous impact on your life. I can think of several in mine.

Currently in our country we have a majority of people both elected and nonelected who are appropriating authority against the majority of the people and making decisions that are dedicated to transforming our country into their idea of a "utopia." They think they can solve mans problems by changing the environment to their idea of utopia but all it is doing is enslaving the working people of our country. They do not understand that people are people no matter what environment you create. The heart of man never changes.

Every time the Government takes responsibility and bails out failure it is simultaneously taking our freedom and choices away at the same time.

There is no such thing as freedom without failure.

The government is taking away our freedom to make decisions as rapidly as they can. The public has been brain washed into thinking they must take responsibility for the consequences of everyone's decisions. This is how they do it. They say if you drink a soda or eat potato chips it raises everyone's health care costs so they need to tax that behavior or if they can get away with it which is their end goal dictate what you can eat and drink. There has been one absurd proposed law after another in the name of the collective good to control peoples diets, what car they should drive etc, to just about everything. All this is, is a system of thinking to justify taking our freedom and right to make decisions away under the geise of taking the responsibility or bailing people out for failure and then claiming because they are taking the responsibility or bailing people out they have the right to take control and dictate our choices. By using this justification there is no limit to their power to dictate and mandate what ever they want. This is to a person with common sense insane and in no way is a legitimate function of government nor permissible within our constitution. They will keep grabbing more and more power each day until people wake up and put a stop to our loss of freedom.

With all the rapid change and power grabbing of our government there is an unprecedented amount of bad news pouring out of the "News Outlets" with government intruding into every facet of our lives. Our current government is hell bent on taking away our ability to make decisions for ourselves and if this power grab continues and the government is successful they will have created an environment of no incentive, no reward for effort, an unproductive nation with no innovation, no competition, no responsibility and no freedom. Basically freedom in our country as we once knew it will become a thing of the past. We will be no different then any other third world or socialist country with corrupt officials and the middle class being all but eliminated to prop up the poor and we will have the haves and the have not's.

Watching this transformation of our country I have found that many of the people I talk to do not want to face the reality of what is happening for reasons I could only guess but one thing I have noticed besides a disconnect with reality is they seem to favor these two popular approaches to solving problems.

1. Ignore the problem and it will go away.

2. Change - Run away from the problem to a new environment and everything will be OK. ("The grass is always greener on the other side.")

They always overlook the fact that they are bringing themselves with them. What they do not know is all tragedy comes from individuals, nations, and empires through their own decisions that is "self determination".

The mature warrior knows that decisions create environment and come with consequences which makes it virtually important to make decisions from strength not weakness. Strength means decisions are based on objectivity focusing on truth and reality and weakness means decisions are made emotionally from subjectivity and arrogance.

Individual subjectivity destroys national objectivity. Subjective arrogant people and nations never see their own inconsistencies, only the inconsistency of others and unfortunately they always think they know what's best for everyone else but of course their own rules never apply to themselves. When you have enough arrogant people in government making decisions, the inconsistency of their decisions is horrendous, yet they are blind to these inconsistencies and do not see the road to destruction on which they are going and taking everyone else along with them. Decisions are made every day that are disastrous, contrary to our Heritage, our Constitution and our Culture of Freedom as well as the Laws of Establishment that govern self determination, our freedom and stability.

It is in the character of very few men
to honor without envy a friend who has prospered."
- Aeschylus

Jealousy brings weak decisions and has become a big problem in our nation today with jealous people in government and social settings who are envious of others and what they have which is fueling redistribution of wealth. I have heard it explained to me in many ways how they seek to justify their envy. They use words like fair, it is a human right, by redistributing the wealth they are creating opportunities because in some warped way of thinking they think they are entitled to the same opportunities that came along for someone else some one who took advantage of an opportunity and was successful with it.

Envy is the tax which all distinction must pay.
- Ralph Waldo Emerson

I can only guess but I think their rationale goes something like this. This old miner was prospecting in Death Valley for 20 years and finally hit pay dirt and is enjoying his success but some jealous socialist minded people see him and say, we did not have the same opportunity to find gold so "hey it is only fair we confiscate his wealth under the guise of benefiting the poor" and they try to throw you off by distorting equal opportunity. They do not understand that good decisions create opportunity and bad decisions take away opportunity. But the bottom line is they are just jealous envious selfish people trying to hide their true motives.

Envy is the art of counting the other
fellow's blessings instead of your own.

- Harold Coffin

We are also under constant attack from other Nations that are envious of the United States. The mature warrior knows that those who are jealous and envious never see their own sins and the consequences of their own production of evil only the sins and evil of others.

"Those who believe in nothing are very, very
jealous and angry at those who believe in something."
- Dennis Prager

With our government demanding and grabbing more and more power by the day. The warrior should know this principle that "The demand for power always exceeds the need for power".

Currently there are more arrogant people in demand for power then there are positions in our government to accommodate them with their lust of inordinate ambition and inordinate competition.

"I hope our wisdom will grow with our power, and teach us
that the less we use our power the greater it will be."
- Thomas Jefferson

The need for power is determined by our Constitution and the Laws of Establishment. Legitimate power always functions within the context of establishment principles. These are things that are being ignored by our government and politicians.

Power demands are accompanied by lust for power and lust for control and have become far greater then our legitimate systems and thoughts of such functions. The results are putting us in a pattern of economic failure and have tied the hands of our Military with no clear obtainable goals.

Mediocrity has infiltrated business through government interference and regulations corrupting business our great institution of the past that has contributed more to the greatness of our country then any other institution.

Also bad decisions from a position of weakness (arrogance) on the part of government has failed to protect our freedom, our privacy, our property and even our life. The life of all citizens should be protected from crime; it seems the opposite is now true. Criminals are protected from the law. In our judicial system the victim is often forgotten and the criminal is mollycoddled in every way.

Often history is how the weak control the strong such is the current state of affairs in the U.S. The people of this nation have made bad decisions voting in weak politicians that now control the strong of this nation. We now have weak insecure, arrogant people controlling policy in our social lives, cultural lives, in business, in professional life, in government and the current administration is asking churches to preach their policies. For example, I saw on television the other day Nancy Pelosi the House Speaker asking Churches to tell their congregations to support her policies mentioning Cap and Trade and others. This is a national disaster in the making.

Through arrogance, self centeredness, preoccupation with self, the weak of society control and manipulate the strong.

A warrior's strength lies in his ability to make decisions from strength. He knows when he loses something he must learn not to look back but continue to live for the future by making decisions for the future not the past.

If a warrior is to live by his wits he must live by his free will - self determination and only good decisions can preserve that environment or freedom of thought. Too often history is the narrative of mans weakness not his strength and from this the warrior has learned that weakness can become strength through good decisions. Good decisions create options for greater decisions. While bad decision destroy these options. The warrior knows decisions should be evaluated on the criteria of providing future freedom because true freedom is the source of both success and failure.

I will close with these thoughts historical trends are always related to conflict between objective reality versus subjective reality. People are a product of their own decisions not their environment and are affected by decisions of others in the nation as a whole. Man is not an independent power but a creature of weakness whose power lies in his choices.

"It is not our abilities that show who we are it is our choices"

Bad decisions have been made and more will follow but the Warrior can have confidence that out of suffering comes strength for the Warrior if he meets it as a challenge to be over come with the proper attitude.

You are an inspiration to us all.

You should not be the owner of a Army/Navy/Military surplus store; rather you should be running for office.

Your thoughts are concise, and well written.

Keep up the work and you should think about putting your newsletters together in a book, or writing a book. I would read it and so would most Glenn Beck listeners.

Thomas Jefferson is like no other man that has ever lived, if there was only one man I could meet that lived in the past it you be him. I hope everyone can read as much as possible about him. Thanks for your insightful messages.

William

I wanted to write about your column "The Founders". I am a political consultant in California and receive a lot of military-related mail from a local political volunteer friend.

Although I have never served in the military, I am a very strong supporter of our country's armed forces, without which none of us would be enjoying the freedoms we do.

My father was an immigrant who served in the USAAF in the Pacific theater in WWII (and who was awarded citizenship during the conflict), and the importance of the military has been clear to me since early childhood.

I have read similar statements of the centrality of Christianity in US history, and often find them misinformed and biased, especially when they argue that we are a "Christian nation". I am Jewish, very active in the organized Jewish world, and attend services weekly. Given the important role of Jews in the Revolutionary War and throughout our nation's history, you can understand why such sentiments are troubling.

Thank you for stating that we have never been a Christian nation, and for noting that Christian history has included large-scale destruction of Jewish communities (e.g. the Crusades). As you also said, the founders had come from nations where one denomination of Christians used the power of the state to suppress other denominations of Christians, with disastrous results. That example convinced them that we needed a Bill of Rights to protect religion from government, not the other way around.

"A Christian Nation means Christianity would be mandated by the government which would create tyranny. It is correct to say we were a nation created under God with Christian principles" - couldn't have said it better myself.

Allowing Christian principles to guide an individual in running a government (or a business) is hardly the same as a Christian government.

We are a nation founded by Christians, and made up predominantly of Christians - facts that can't be changed by "political correctness".

Also, you might be interested to know there is an almost identical principle in Judaism to the one you cited about two sets of laws. There are a set of rules for the whole human race, so that society doesn't collapse, and a far more detailed and restrictive body of law for Jews.

My best wishes to all of the men and women of the Special Forces, active and retired, for whose service I will always be grateful.

Larry

Eternal Destiny

We all have an eternal destiny.  The question we should be asking is who, what, when, where, why, and how.  Until you are serious about these questions, the answers will surely elude you.  Who has an eternal destiny, and who has the power to provide it?  You have a destiny and God can provide it.  What, and where, is my destiny?  You have two choices, heaven and perfect happiness for all eternity, or the lake of fire, which was prepared for the devil and his angels (Rev 19:20, 20:10, and 20:14-15).  When must a decision be made?  A decision regarding your destiny must be made while you are alive on this earth.  There is no redemption offered after you depart this life.  Time is running out.  Why, is a question that could fill volumes.  However, the simple answer is because God has a plan for your life, which includes perfect peace and happiness for time and eternity.  How do I ensure I receive the destiny that God has promised?

God is one.  He is in three distinct personalities, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.  Long ago, in a place far away which wasn't really a place and before time existed, God existed (john 1:1). God decided to create time, space, a universe, and creatures to dwell in His creation (John 1:3, 10). God knew prior to creation that His creatures would fall and be separated from Him.  He provided a redemptive solution to the fall.  The Bible is man's history from a divine prospective regarding creation, the fall and the potential restoration of man to God.  It is an historical record of past, present and future events of mankind.

Only through the detailed study of the Word of God can we know who we are, why we are here, and what the future of our lives (in time and eternity) might be.  God has given us a road map to our future and a door to a relationship with Him.

John 10:7 So Jesus said to them again, "Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

John 10:9 "I am the door; if anyone enters through Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance ( a change of mind about Christ ).

There is only one way to a relationship with the eternal living God, the creator of the universe.

John 14:6 Jesus *said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

We are worried and anxious about our life, spouse, children, job and nation.  These are insignificant trivialities compared to the much greater issue of our eternal destiny.

There are two categories of people on the earth, those who have made the most important decision in life and those who have not.  What is that decision?  Faith alone in Christ alone, anything less is a decision for eternal destruction.

John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey [the command to believe in] the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

There are dozens of Christian denominations and offshoots of Christianity.  There are even more religions of the earth.  Do not be deceived, only the Bible, the Word of god is the inerrant, absolute truth of the universe.  The tradition of man expressed in the varied theologies of many denominations is the infiltration of evil, known as religion.  Religion was created and perpetuated by Satan to deceive the world and enslave man.  The deception is necessary to keep people from the simple truth of the Word of God.  It is necessary to keep us from a relationship with the living God.  God continually holds out His hand to us, and we arrogantly slap it away.  Is it any wonder that the world seems to be going to hell in a hand basket?

God is real. God has a plan for your life.  His plan begins with the only way to eternal life and a destiny beyond description.

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

Revelation 7:17 for the Lamb in the center of the throne will be their shepherd, and will guide them to springs of the water of life; and God will wipe every tear from their eyes.

Revelation 21:4 and He will wipe away every tear from their eyes; and there will no longer be any death; there will no longer be any mourning, or crying, or pain; the first things have passed away.

Jesus Christ conquered sin and death.  He died as our substitute, once and for all.  This is a gift from God.  Each of us deserves to die because we have fallen short of the perfect righteousness of God.  Jesus Christ, eternal God, creator of the universe died in our place, He was our substitute.  He took our punishment so we could have eternal life.

Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned

Hebrews 7:27 who does not need daily, like those high priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and then for the sins of the people, because this He did once for all when He offered up Himself.

Hebrews 9:12 and not through the blood of goats and calves, but through His own blood, He entered the holy place once for all, having obtained eternal redemption.

Peter 3:18 For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died[as a substitute] for us.

If you believe that Jesus Christ died, was buried, and rose again after three days in the tomb; then, welcome to the royal family of God. You have been reborn.

1Cor 15:3-4 For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received, that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures

1Cor 15:20-22 But now Christ has been raised from the dead, the first fruits of those who are asleep.  For since by a man came death, by a man also came the resurrection of the dead.  For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

John 3:7 [Jesus said],  "Do not be amazed that I said to you, 'You must be born again.'

By a simple act of faith in Christ, your spiritual rebirth is complete.

Acts 16:31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.

You may be asking yourself, now what?  We are born physically, in a state of total helplessness.  We have no ability to feed, clothe, or change ourselves.  We cannot communicate (except for crying) or travel about under our own power.  We are completely dependent upon our mothers and fathers.  So, it is with our new spiritual birth.  We are just as helpless spiritually.  We need to mature spiritually as we matured physically.  The food we need to grow to spiritual maturity is spiritual food.

John 6:27 [Jesus said,] " do not work for the food which perishes, but for the food which endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man shall give to you..."

John 6:35 Jesus said to them, "I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.

1 Corinthians 2:6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor of the rulers of this age, who are passing away;

1 Corinthians 14:20 ...do not be children in your thinking; yet in evil be infants, but in your thinking be mature.

Ephesians 4:13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

Hebrews 5:14 But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have their senses trained to discern good and evil.

Hebrews 6:1 ...let us press on to maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith toward God,

Ephesians 4:15 ...we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

1 Peter 2:2 like newborn babies, long for the pure milk of the word, so that by it you may grow in respect to salvation,

Ephesians 4:14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ, consider who and what Jesus Christ is.  If you are a believer in the Lord Jesus Christ, fulfill the commands above to advance to spiritual maturity.  The Bible is the secret to life, love, and happiness; consider your priorities in life.

Dynamic Entry
vs.
Deliberate Entry

For some time now the SWAT community has experienced a debate about the use of dynamic entries and is it a legitimate option for high risk warrant service. Some would argue that the dynamic entry is flat out getting cops shot and the use of the tactic lends to carelessness.

This controversy, from what I can determine, has no merit. It's my experience that the dynamic entry is very effective. I also believe that the deliberate entry is also effective. The problem seems to be that there is a need from SWAT trainers to replace one with the other. The question is why? They are two different applications that can be used best when faced with different tactical challenges.

Proper tactical planning for a high risk warrant service should include the use of a threat matrix. Once the threat level has been determined and the need for a tactical team is warranted then the tactical commander must review all the intelligence available to properly formulate a tactical plan to execute the service.

His options are many and they will vary from team to team. Some options include but are not limited too:
  • Takedown: Effect the arrest away from his home on a traffic stop or when he his walking down the street, etc.

  • Ruse: Get the suspect to exit his home for some reason and effect the arrest.

  • Surround and call out: Set a perimeter and call out the suspect from the objective and then effect the arrest.

  • Breach and hold: Set a perimeter, knock & announce, breach an entry point, effect entry or call out.

  • Dynamic entry: Knock and announce, breach, bang (if warranted), clear the objective.

  • Deliberate entry: Knock and announce, breach or breach and hold, clear the objective at a methodical pace.
Once the first four options are ruled out of the tactical plan for whatever reason, then the tactical planner is left with the dynamic entry or deliberate entry.

Dynamic Entry

The standard for many years for many teams across the country has been the dynamic entry when conducting high risk warrant service. The dynamic entry may vary a little from team to team but the basic concept of the tactic is still the same.

I won't try and define how another agency may describe or use this tactic. However, I will share with you what we teach in our basic SWAT courses.

"Dynamic Entry" is a tactic where surprise, speed and domination are key.

Usually accomplished by timing of the execution of the entry.
Use of noise-flash diversionary devices when warranted.
Use of an overwhelming amount of dominating force inside the stronghold.

The dynamic entry is generally the fastest option for clearing large threats. We like to use 8 or more operators. The operators stack up at the entry point, knock and announce, breach and enter the stronghold. They then start clearing the stronghold by moving towards or into their most immediate threats.

Generally two operators enter a room together. Three or more operators may enter if the room is large. They may bang the room(s) prior to entry when warranted.

Upon entry into an objective, operators must concern themselves with "points of domination" and "area's of responsibilities". In other words, clear the "most immediate" threat first. Take a position of domination that will allow for overlapping fire from the operators inside the objective. This must be done with an overwhelming amount of dominating force.

The operators will step through the door of the room, muzzle up, and take a corner to clear. The operator that is second in the stack is required to be right on the first mans tail as he enters the stronghold. The second man takes the opposing corner to clear and takes his point of domination.

When the room is clear they announce "clear". As they exit the room they announce "coming out" and rejoin the clearing operation.

The advantage to this style of dynamic entry is that it provides speed through the objective, especially when the location of your adversary is unknown. Speed in the Dynamic entry buys you surprise and surprise affords you the opportunity to neutralize your threat before he engages you.

Another reason this tactic works is that your adversary has to process though the OODA loop as you make your entry. If two operators bang a room, enter swiftly, clear and take a position of domination before the 2-3 seconds that the bang provided, your adversary will still be processing through the OODA loop. If you don't bang the room your adversary still has too choose one of the two operators to engage as they split up and are still on the move. We all now it takes time to choose a target. Also your adversary has to place a lethal hit hitting on a moving target, which we all know isn't easy and something most criminals don't practice.

To make the Dynamic entry successful, these two points are important:
  1. Don't move any faster than you can effectively engage your adversary.
  2. Provide an overwhelming amount of dominating force inside the stronghold.
Speed of the dynamic entry is critical and I think this is where some tactical trainers have failed, which has created this unnecessary controversy. When teaching or training the dynamic entry, start on the gun range. Have the operators shoot from various positions, various distances, various speeds and various formations while moving. Try to recreate what they will encounter in hallways, rooms and other types of objectives. Place hostage targets down range and most importantly, make them accountable for their shot placement. The operator will then develop the speed in which he can effectively engage his target. That is the speed in which to conduct the dynamic entry.

Once the operator is proficient on the range then he is ready to learn the dynamic entry in a building. The key now is to have them maintain the speed they operated at on the gun range. This is when I notice that operators pick up the pace and they tend to move faster than they can effectively engage an adversary and then the dynamic entry becomes problematic.

If you can harness the proper speed to conduct dynamic entries, master the CQB principles utilized during the clearing operation, then the dynamic entry in my mind is highly effective and a viable option.

The Dynamic entry has worked for many years. We conduct opposing force training in our SWAT schools and when the tactic is conducted properly, it's very safe and very effective. The operators will experience these results first hand, which will build their confidence in the tactic.

I don't buy into the fact that dynamic entry isn't a safe tactic and SWAT officers are getting killed because they use it. SWAT cops are getting killed because bad men want to kill us. If your adversary is waiting to ambush you in a well-fortified stronghold it may not matter what tactic you use. He has the advantage because he owns the ground and taking ground is a dangerous business. It just so happens, that's our business.

High-risk warrants using the dynamic entry have been conducted for many years. I would say there have been thousands or tens of thousands of successful high-risk search warrants served in this country using the dynamic entry since the inception of the tactic.  Without any conclusive data available it's impossible to determine the success ratio.

Deliberate Entry

The deliberate entry uses the same basic principles as the dynamic entry but the pace at which the clearing operation is conducted is reduced significantly. The speeds in which teams conduct deliberate entries will vary from team to team. I have seen teams use a speed slightly slower than which most dynamic entries are conducted and I have seen teams move at almost a "stealth clear" speed.

There isn't a right or wrong speed when conducting a deliberate entry. Your team should spend many hours training on this tactic to find what works best for your team.

The basic concept using the deliberate entry is that it's slower and you can clear objectives from the outside prior to making the actual entry. If you observe a subject inside the room then you can attempt to verbalize commands to have them crawl out of the room to the team or prone out on the floor. Once you decide to enter the stronghold you may then go dynamic or continue the deliberate clearing method.

Here are some advantages to using the deliberate entry:
  • Operators can "slice the pie" into the stronghold prior to entry.

  • Mirrors can be used to clear corners and other threats prior to entry into the room.

  • Ballistic shields and blankets can be used during the clearing operation.

  • Verbal commands may be given to occupants of the room prior to entry to a safe area.

  • The tactic is easier managed from the team leader's perspective.
Moving through the objective is very much the same as the dynamic entry. You will utilize the same CQB principles. A critical component is that the team must maintain security during the movement. In other words, there must be guns covering all threats all the time. If you loose this security element for what ever reason the team leader should go dynamic to clear the rest of the objective or consider withdrawing. The reason is during a deliberate clear operating your adversary most likely knows you're in the objective. Your team most likely had to knock and announce your presence, breach a door, banged a room or two and given verbal command to the occupants or team members. Therefore, in a sense your team is already compromised.

Once your adversary is aware of your presence he has ample time to arm himself and take cover. You lose speed and surprise because your adversary now has the time needed to process through the OODA loop. He now has the ability and opportunity to engage you first. Therefore, teams must provide security for the element as it conducts the clear operation.

A great way to achieve success with the deliberate entry is to mandate that the team leader doesn't make entry into any rooms. He must position himself so that he can "manage" the operation. This works great because when an operator is focused on his most immediate threat he may overlook or miss other critical factors that can compromise the operation.

The team leader doesn't necessarily have to focus on immediate threats and can now focus on the integrity of the operation. Thus making the tactic and operation very safe. My team leaders have found that positioning themselves 5th in the stack works out best for them.

Another consideration on the use of the deliberate entry, while your element is moving and clearing most interior walls offer minimal to no ballistic value. Thus the slow deliberate clear may provide a false sense of safety inside a typical home especially if your presence is known.

Conclusion

As you can see both tactics have their advantages and disadvantages. In my opinion both are viable options for high risk warrant service. My team is tweaking a variation that blends the two tactics and so far we are happy with the results.

Until some empirical data is furnished that concludes that the use of dynamic entry is dangerous I believe we should stop the controversy and use what ever tactic will work best for the tactical problem your team is faced with.

Dear Sir,

Your website has some really great gear. I'm writing this email as a request to support some of the guys over here in Iraq. A few of your survival kits could serve as a big help. Hell, even one of 'em would be greatly appreciated. I completely understand if you can't contribute, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

MEMORANDUM FOR: Special Forces Gear
FROM: California Army National Guard

We are the premier weapons and combat marksmanship instructors in the California Army National Guard. Our mission is to train all units deploying from the western United States for contingency operations overseas. In the past 20 months we have trained approximately 12,000 Soldiers, Sailors, Airman, Warriors, and Navy Personnel. We are known as Team Rifle, a sub unit of Task Force Warrior, which belongs to the G3 [Operations] of the California Army National Guard. Part of that mission involves conducting the State Combat Match.

Additionally we sponsor "Team California" which is the competitive combat marksmanship team representing the California Army National Guard in regional and national combat marksmanship events such as the Winston P. Wilson Match [WPW] and the US Army Small Arms Championships, and also in NRA and other civilian matches. California has gone without a shooting team or having participated in competition for at least 10 years until this past year,2009.

We had a small first annual match, but we went on to perform very well at the WPW, the All Army Competition at Ft. Benning GA, and took first place in the Pistol EIC match and first Place in the SDM Unknown Distance match at the MAC VII Region Combat Arms Competition in Utah. Team Rifle hopes to get more Soldiers interested in shooting and bring competitive marksmanship back to the California Army National Guard. This year we will conduct the 2nd annual California Combat Match and excellence in competition (EIC) matches. We have over 100 Competitors registered for the Match already. Combat match shooting is a way to dramatically improve the combat effectiveness of the Soldier and Unit.

In order to get more Soldiers interested in competitive shooting Team Rifle is looking for donations to award to Competitors. All donations are going through the Veterans of Foreign Wars California (VFWCA) which is a 501(c)(3) Foundation. We know when we include the list of awards with the Official Match Program we are sending out to all Competitors it will help get more shooters involved this year and in all following years. The goal in hosting these matches, and competing in additional matches is to provide excellent combat riflemen to the force and our deploying Soldiers are more prepared for combat and better understand how to fight and employ their weapons system

We are also hosting a Vendor Row the final day of the Combat Match the 26th of September 2010 here at Camp Roberts Ca. Entry for vendors is free. We will have tents set up with A/C, tables and chairs for all vendors. . If your Company wishes to donate or attend please Contact SGT David Tresky II, for further information.

Military Maxims and Principles
Military Maxims and Principles

It is through upsetting the foes' psychological balance that the road to success lies.
- Napoleon

General Thomas Jonathan Jackson lived by this Maxim during the Civil War and when asked about what made him so successful in battle he replied with these 2 rules:
  1. Always mystify, mislead, and surprise the enemy, if possible; and when you strike and overcome him, never give up the pursuit as long as your men have strength to follow; for an army routed, if hotly pursued becomes panic-stricken, and can then be destroyed by half their number.

  2. Never fight against heavy odds, if by any possible maneuvering you can hurl your own force on only a part, and that the weakest part, of your enemy and crush it. Such tactics will win every time, and a small army may thus destroy a large one in detail, and repeated victory vigorously, and secure all the fruits of victory, is the secret of successful war.' "...
With all his regard for Napoleon's maxims, Jackson was no slave to rule. In war, circumstances vary to such an extent that a maneuver, which at one time is manifestly unsound, may at another be the most judicious. The so-called rules are never binding; they merely point out the risks which are generally entailed by some particular course of action.
Aesop's Fables
          The Bat and the Weasels

A Bat who fell upon the ground and was caught by a Weasel pleaded to be spared his life. The Weasel refused, saying that he was by nature the enemy of all birds. The Bat assured him that he was not a bird, but a mouse, and thus was set free. Shortly afterward the Bat again fell to the ground and was caught by another Weasel, whom he likewise entreated not to eat him. The Weasel said that he had a special hostility to mice. The Bat assure him that he was not a mouse, but a bat, and thus a second time escaped.

It is wise to turn circumstances to good account.

Clichés of Socialism

Clichés of Socialism

"The size of the national debt doesn't  matter because we owe it to ourselves."

Some things a person does owe to himself-intangibles like respect, integrity, responsibility. "This above all, to thine own self be true." But such duties to self are not a debt in the usual sense of a repayable loan or obligation.

If an individual transfers his own money or his own promise to pay from his right pocket to his left, the transaction clearly leaves him neither richer nor poorer. There would be no point in a person's borrowing from himself; but if for some reason he did, the size of the debt he owed himself wouldn't matter at all. However, if A gives his property to B, we do not say that each is as rich or as poor as before. Or, if C buys extensively on credit, his creditors surely do not believe C "owes it to himself."  They are keenly aware that the size of his debt makes a big difference when the bills fall due.

Instead of an individual, one might conceive of a society with the government owning or controlling all property and persons and issuing money or bonds as a bookkeeping device to keep track of its spending. In such a situation, it wouldn't matter how many promises or bonds had been issued or remained outstanding. Since individuals would have neither property nor rights, the socialized government-as sole owner-would only be dealing with itself. But in a nonsocialized society, individuals do have rights and may own property. If the government borrows property from citizen A, then it is obligated to repay that debt to A-not to B or C or D. The individual who owns a government bond may be a taxpayer as well, and thus liable in part for the taxes the government must collect in order to redeem his bond; but B and C and D are also liable as taxpayers even if they own none of the bonds themselves. And the size of the debt makes a real difference to everyone involved.

One of the vital characteristics of the institution of private property is that ownership and control rests with individuals, and whether a person owns or owes makes a whale of a difference in how rich or how poor he is.

The concept of private ownership and control of property further presupposes a government of limited powers instead of a socialized society in which everything and everyone is government owned and controlled. Private property owners presumably have something to say about the extent to which government may tax or seize their property; otherwise, it wouldn't be private property.

Now, government debt signifies that government has made certain claims upon private property above and beyond the "due processes" of authorized taxation. The semblance of private property must be maintained, else the government could find no "owner" from whom to "borrow" and no taxpayer upon whom to draw when the debt falls due. But, in essence, the government the government debt is an existing claim against property-like an unpaid tax bill-and the larger that debt, the less is the real equity of individuals in what is thought to be private property. In that sense, the socialization already has occurred, and the government does "owe to itself " because it owns the property. The size of the debt is important, however, because it measures the amount that taxpayers and property owners owe-not to themselves, but to the government over which they have lost control insofar as it now owns and controls them.

It would be most surprising to find a completely socialized government heavily in debt, simply because not sensible property owner would lend to such an institution if he could possibly avoid it. Though deficit financing seems inconsistent with the original American design of limited government, it is possible in an emergency for a limited government to find voluntary creditors, especially among its own citizens who expect the government to abide by its constitutional limitations and thus leave a large base of taxable private property through which debts may be redeemed. But he growing size of government debt should be of real concern to every creditor and especially to every taxpayer with any interest whatsoever in private property and personal freedom.

- Dr. Paul L. Poirot

What Has Really Changed?

What Has Really Changed?

You can't kill profit
Until you've killed freedom

EVEN IF YOU ABOLISHED the profit-and loss system in America and installed it in Russia, in a short while it would be back in America and dead in Russia. The profit-and-loss system is not something you decide to have or not have-it is something that can't help but arise in a country which has liberty-it grows in liberty just as surely as grain grows in sunshine.

When you are free, the human desire to improve your lot and that of your family shows itself. To improve your own lot, you have to do something better than others do it. If you succeed, you benefit (make a profit) and in the process you benefit the public, too. If you do not succeed, you don't benefit but you can always try again if you have the character.

In this act of expressing your liberty you have created the profit-and-loss system. Liberty made you free to work in your best way . . . to be enterprising. Maybe that's why it's called "free enterprise."

So what have we learned in 2,063 years ?

"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to  foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become  bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."
- Cicero (55 B.C.)

A Speech Every American High School Principal
Should Give

If every school principal gave this speech at the beginning of the next school year, America would be a better place.
To the students and faculty of our high school:

I am your new principal, and honored to be so. There is no greater calling than to teach young people.

I would like to apprise you of some important changes coming to our school. I am making these changes because I am convinced that most of the ideas that have dominated public education in America have worked against you, against your teachers and against our country.

First, this school will no longer honor race or ethnicity. I could not care less if your racial makeup is black, brown, red, yellow or white. I could not care less if your origins are African, Latin American, Asian or European, or if your ancestors arrived here on the Mayflower or on slave ships.

Mosab Hassan YousefTerror hero being deported

What should be done with a man who infiltrated the terrorist group Hamas, spied for Israeli intelligence and broke up terror attacks, saving countless Israeli, as well as Palestinian, lives? Most people would say he should be honored. Not the U.S. government, it's trying to deport him.

Mosab Hassan Yousef was more than a spy. He is the son of a founding leader of Hamas, which made him among the highest prizes for Israeli intelligence. Yousef and his Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) handler, Gonen Ben Itzhak, were in Washington last week, meeting with whoever would listen to them. Yousef told me -- and Itzhak confirmed -- that he never killed anyone and, in fact, prevented many from being killed, while providing useful information that thwarted numerous terror attacks.

Communist Goals (1963)

Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America.

At Mrs. Nordman's request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following "Current Communist Goals," which she identifies as an excerpt from "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen:

[From "The Naked Communist," by Cleon Skousen]

CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS
1. U.S. acceptance of coexistence as the only alternative to atomic war.
2. U.S. willingness to capitulate in preference to engaging in atomic war.
3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength.
