When I was stationed at Camp Pendleton I was in Weapons Company 3/5. The unit made us t-shirts with the 3/5 logo/emblem/crest, "Consumate Professionals". I was honorable discharged in 1999 and the t-shirt has been long-gone. I searched a couple of web site to find a shirt with the logo/emblem/crest but there was no luck. It didn't take me long to search this site before I found what I was looking for. When the shirt arrived it was better than what I expected. I love the t-shirt and wear it with pride and often. Thank you SpecialForces.com

Most Sincerely,
Bryan P.

Thank you!!!

Your Shirts are the best.

Andreas

Dear SFG,

Thank you for being so prompt with my order, and the refund as well.

I thought a little constructive thoughts were in order.

The "HRT" boot knife is well constructed. I had to "hone" the edge though, both sides,to get it up to spec.

As for the "GI USMC Combat Knife"......Well, it wasn't really a K-Bar, at least not one that I've ever seen. It read "US", and above that it read "Ontario". No worries though, after I used a ceramic sharpening stone on both the small back edge and the full length edge, I'm quite pleased with them both. Oh, I almost forgot, both were very pretty well balanced.

I'll be purchasing again from you in the near future.

Sincerely,
Ed Whiteside

Dear Special Forces

I received my order i have to say that is better than i expected! Thank you and you'll hear fom me soon.

Dave's Message

A Warrior's Wisdom
and
The Magna Carta of Human Freedom

We live in a time where the fate of freedom in our nation has become uncertain. Politicians and great masses in the population have no respect for authority, nor do they understand the principles of authority as they continue to disregard our Declaration of Independence, Constitution, and our individual freedom in the Bill of Rights.

The institution of authority was designed to protect and preserve freedom and never abuse it. Our politicians are encroaching into our freedoms and every other facet of our life today. This leads me to this month's subject - authority and freedom.

Some points on Authority

  • Authority should respect the freedom and rights of others.
  • Authority should always respect the Law.
  • Authority should respect our Constitution and Bill of Rights.
  • Authority should respect the property and privacy of others.
  • Authority should always be impartial, just and fair.
  • Authority should never be hypocritical.
  • Authority should never be above the Law
  • Authority should never be self-righteous.
  • Authority should always be objective never emotional or reactionary or empathetic.
  • Authority should always have respect for authority.

Any violation of these points represents an abuse of authority.

Having authority requires the noblest of things: Integrity, honor, virtue and love.

I grew up in the 60's and watched the liberals, socialists, communists, and the hippies launch an all out assault on authority and establishment principles which are the source of our freedom. I became witness to practically every form of degeneracy going against our established laws and beliefs and now these people and their children are in power in our government. This explains a lot of what we are all witnessing today: loose morals, disregard for authority, the poisoning of our youths minds, praising those who are trying to destroy us, hating our military.

Others with a weak conscience who don't understand how to read today's world let others do it for them - many from the news or media lead many of these folks who can't think for themselves…. For example, often when we turn on the news all we see is commentators, experts mostly concerned with promoting self importance, ratings or political agendas and every time a politician is accused of something their defense is to accuse their opponents or cite other people past and present of doing the same thing as if that makes it okay. They have no conscience to distinguish right from wrong so when they see or imagine someone else does something they immediately use this for justification to do the same thing...

"What's wrong will always be wrong no matter how many people do it. And what's right will always be right no matter how few people do it"

Vice Admiral Joe Mobley, USN (Ret.) POW 7 years Vietnam

A lot of us, when we were little and caught doing something wrong, would tell our parents that so and so did it also, as if that made it ok. This is the time parents should train their kids to develop a good conscience. My parents would tell me if everyone is jumping off a cliff would you jump with them? This is what is happening today: people with a weak conscience cannot distinguish right from wrong so they are adopting the standards of the people around them following the crowd and jumping off the cliff with them into the slavery of fascism and socialism.

We have in our nation today people with weak, little or no conscience whatsoever, operating in a state of ignorance following the crowd. This is the failure of parents.

The conscience has the ability to distinguish and choose right from wrong; the ability to tell right from wrong comes from truth, values, and principles we have learned. A strong conscience is an essential part of honor. When someone has not learned truth, values, and principles those things are replaced with emotional desires and often the standards of people they associate with which controls ones decision making ability.

I started out to write on authority and revolution and some how I got myself sidetracked on the Ten Commandments thinking I would give a short explanation on what they meant to our forefathers and the founding of our country. But it turned out to be a whole message in itself, so I thought I'd go with it after pondering on it. I hope that you will take away with you a new perspective on the principles contained in them.

The Ten Commandments and the Charter of Human Freedom

Much "to do" has been said and done to remove the Ten Commandments from our culture- labeled as a religious symbol - so the attackers think they are attacking Christianity, when in fact they are not. They were given to the Jewish people after their release from slavery. They were a charter on human freedom, an important part of establishment principles for people and nations to live and remain free no matter what they believe in.

Our forefathers knew this and understood that the Ten Commandments (given a thousand years or more before the existence of Christianity) are a summary of Gods principles pertaining to freedom. Each commandment is backed up by a series of establishment laws given for the protection of life, liberty, and property for people within a nation to live and to preserve freedom.

The commandments have always applied to the human race in general. Just as God gave these principles to the Jewish people freed from slavery to keep them from returning to slavery, so our forefathers recognized these principles as a system to maintain freedom and the preservation in the founding of the United States as a free nation as well. They were right. Our history is a testimony to freedom and we have had a tremendous impact on history in regards to freedom. All this because we adhered to the principles found in the Ten Commandments.

So the removal of the Ten Commandments is an assault on our heritage, establishment and freedom.

Covered in the Ten Commandments is the concept of privacy and private property. When privacy or property of an individual or industry is invaded this is an attack on freedom and the function of government ceases to function properly. Today we have a tragic breakdown in Law, therefore the protection of privacy and property is being ended and the Law is being eroded and the Law is being subverted to promote socialism. The very essence of socialism is an invasion of privacy and private property.

A great debater's technique is to accuse your opponents of what you are guilty of and we see this going on all the time today. It seems to advance the true agendas of politicians so they must hide them.

When a nation promotes anti-establishment principles and makes those principles a part of its Legislature Laws, violating the principles of the Ten Commandments, then socialism not only destroys freedom in a nation it eventually destroys the nation itself, for socialism is international in its scope and denies the principles of freedom. This is one of the many things happening in our nation today. There is a push to have international law and treaties supersede our Constitution and Bill of Rights.

It is important to note that a slave mentality of thinking in a nation precedes physical slavery.

There is a historical principle that is borne out in the rise and fall of nations. This principle is that no nation ever becomes enslaved until first a maximum number of people in that nation reject truth which is the first step towards mental slavery setting the stage for physical slavery. No nation is conquered by an enemy unless destruction of the individual mentality occurs first.

The whole structure of the commandments was designed for people who were free that is why they were given to the Jews after they were freed from slavery. They are useless to slaves.

This brings up a principle of human freedom.

- All freedom comes from authority.
- Freedom without authority is anarchy the same as freedom without responsibility is anarchy.
- Authority without responsibility is tyranny, the same as authority without freedom is tyranny.

There are two points that I'm trying to make here freedom comes from authority and freedom demands responsibility. Authority and responsibility are both necessary for freedom to be maintained.

Human freedom is the basis for determining human maturity. Human maturity is defined as taking full responsibility for ones own decisions. The slave does not have responsibilities they are servants to their masters, which does not have to be a person it could also be to idols, things, or ideologies.

Today people do not want to take responsibility they want the government to bail them out and take care of them. This is a great example of the slave mentality I speak of. People trading Liberty for security. Becoming slaves to the government.

Many of us learned and memorized the Ten Commandments when we were young but I must confess I have forgotten them long ago, but what I do remember is the essence of what they were about so I will attempt to address the principle and meaning of freedom behind each commandment.

THE TEN COMMANDMENTS

The Ten Commandments are found in the Bible's Old Testament in Exodus, Chapter 20. They were given directly by God to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai after He had delivered them from slavery in Egypt. After 400 years in slavery none of them knew freedom, so God gave these commandments to preserve their freedom. Although these were not the only commandments given these Ten Commandments carved by the finger of God on tablets of stone contained the basic principles for humans to preserve and live in freedom.

The Ten Commandments displayed at a state house.

The first four declare the principles of spirituality, or the possibility of establishing a relationship with God; the last six apply to mans' relationship towards fellow man.

The First Commandment

'Thou shall have no other gods before Me.'

The first commandment is where liberty begins in the mind with volition, our freedom to choose or self-determination. This principle is very important because it follows us in any decision we make. We are free to choose but we are not free from the consequences of our decisions.

This commandment is saying He is the genuine God there are no other Gods. So one may ask how this pertains to freedom? This is how I would answer this. Truth makes a person free and lies enslave a person. When a person rejects the only genuine God they are looking for something more or beyond God. God is saying there is nothing beyond Him so this creates a vacuum or void that must be filled so it is human nature to replace God with some form of idolatry which could be anything you choose to replace God with.

"The most common of all follies is to believe passionately in what is obviously (the palpably) not true. It is the chief occupation of mankind."

Henry Louis "H. L." Mencken

When truth is rejected and replaced with ideologies or idolatry which is not just worshiping an idol but could be money, things, a person, a system of good works or what I call the brownie point system of thinking they can bribe or buy God off with good deeds. It's the motivation that counts not the deeds.

"In the United States, doing good has come to be, like patriotism, a favorite device of persons with something to sell."

Henry Louis "H.L." Mencken

In the case of religion for example Islam the one sure way to paradise is to martyr yourself through jihad by murdering infidels (innocent people that do not believe in Islam). All religions are based on some system of works (something you have to do) designed to promote yourself worthy to some god or cause. Religion has served as a controlling device through out human history and for this reason more people have been killed or enslaved in the name of religion then anything else in history.

I singled out Islam because it serves as such a good example of religion trying to control man-- for example a few years back you might remember the muslim in Afghanistan who converted to Christianity and was given the death sentence. We hear that Islam is a religion of tolerance all the time but one must conclude that there definition of tolerance is completely different from what we would expect tolerance to mean.

All religions have one thing in common they are all based on some system of works performed by man to gain favor or salvation through mans own effort. Or you could say man trying to gain the approbation of God through his own effort.

Christianity is not a religion by this definition it is unique providing a solution to death, eternal security (life after death) with out having to earn it. This is what separated Christianity from all religions and caused Christianity to grow so rapidly around the world after the crucifixion of Christ on the cross. People wanted everlasting life and could achieve it without having to deserve it or earn it all by faith accepting God's redemption solution through the substitutionary spiritual death of His Son Jesus Christ on the cross bearing all sins of the human race except the sin of unbelief.

This removed the barrier between man and God to those who accept His solution.

Because Christianity is based on faith only it is unique and separates itself from all other forms of religion where one must perform some system of works to earn salvation.

Faith is the absence of works and the evidence of things unseen.

See the genuine God is perfect in every way and His plans and solutions are therefore perfect so if some part of his redemption solution depended on imperfect man then His plan would no longer be perfect thus compromising His perfect integrity (Righteousness, Justice and Love). Religion hates and rejects this concept which is the source of a lot of violence and wars in the world. Thank God for the separation of Church and State in the United States.

I must caution that there are many counterfeit versions of Christianity in the world today and they are all attempts to turn it into a religion, but true Christianity is not a religion it is about grace and freedom to choose for or against having a personal relationship with God.

"For by grace are you saved through faith and that not of yourselves it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast."

Ephesians 2:8-9

Pretty neat and unique all one has to do is accept Gods redemption solution for everlasting life.

When God is rejected and replaced with the system of thinking of your choice the consequences begin. See there is nothing beyond God so people become frustrated and emotional in their attempt to manufacture a substitute for God. The rejection of truth goes against the source of freedom and the beginning of slavery begins in the mind developing a slave mentality ready to become a slave to whatever they have replaced God with.

For three quarters of a century after the death of Christ Christianity continued to grow becoming the dominant faith of the Roman Empire. After Constantine died Julian his nephew became the emperor and rejected Christianity. He set about to revive pagan idol worship and launched a clever assault on Christianity. One of the clever ways was he raised taxes and took from the public treasury money and built hospitals in every city where the poor could go.

"Julian beheld with envy the wise and humane regulations of the Church; and he very frankly confessed his intention to deprive the Christians of the applause as well as advantage, which they had acquired by the exclusive practice of charity and beneficence."

"But as every act of dissimulation must be painful to an ingenuous spirit, the profession of Christianity increased the aversion of Julian for a religion which oppressed the freedom of his mind, and compelled him to hold a conduct repugnant to the noblest attributes of human nature-integrity, honor, and courage."

"Julian died after two years in battle against the Persians and Christianity went on to become the national religion of Rome.

Edited from the Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire - Edward Gibbon

I mentioned this because we are seeing similar tactics employed today in respect to national health care and government taking on the role of charity in an attempt to destroy the freedom Christianity has brought to the United States. As government takes on more of the personal responsibility of the people it put them in control. If you want to know the future just look in the past.

"For every human problem, there is a neat, simple human solution and it is always wrong."

Henry Louis "H. L." Mencken

I will conclude with this quick summary the First Commandment recognizes human volition which is the basis for maintaining freedom by knowledge of the truth. A free nation must operate on the basis of personal freedom, which means personal privacy, another principle of freedom. Now days the liberals are persecuting people for what they think. We see it in the passage of hate crimes which puts the emphasis on what someone thinks instead of the crime or their actions.

We saw Miss California denied Miss Universe and was maliciously attacked in an effort to remove her California crown for her viewpoint that marriage should be between a man and a women. People should never be persecuted for what they think but only for their unlawful actions.

Remember slavery starts in the mind. You shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free. John 8:32. It is your choice. You are free to make the choice, but you are not free of the consequences. Slavery always begins in the mind as a result of rejection of the truth.

The Second Commandment

'Thou shall have no other gods before Me.'

In the first commandment we dealt with freedom of volition and rejection of the truth creates a slave mentality in ones thinking being controlled by what they have chosen as a substitute for God.

"Man is never honestly the fatalist, nor even the stoic. He fights his fate, often desperately. He is forever entering bold exceptions to the rulings of the bench of gods. This fighting, no doubt, makes for human progress, for it favors the strong and the brave. It also makes for beauty, for lesser men try to escape from a hopeless and intolerable world by creating a more lovely one of their own."

Henry Louis "H.L." Mencken

The 2nd commandment warns what happens as it makes the pattern of slavery complete. From the slave mentality developed in ones mind comes the overt act of creating and worshiping idols this applies to both in the physical sense making some physical idol and worshiping it and in the figurative sense worshiping a person, a way of thinking, money, materialistic things, animals, environment. Whatever you have made a priority in your life to replace God with.

Today we have people that put animals and the earth before the welfare of the human race. I watched on the news how in California they are pumping the water that has gone to 3rd and 4th generation farmers out into the sea to save the Delta Smelt a 2 inch fish that is of no known commercial value or otherwise. As they ration the water after a heavy rain season of course charging penalties for more use of water. There is 40% unemployment now in these communities and if this keeps up we will not only import our gas and everything else but our fruits and vegetables too.

http://aquafornia.com/archives/category/endangered-species/delta-smelt

Attorney Brandon Middleton. "The Fish and Wildlife Service admits that this fish is found only in California. The Service also admits that it has no commercial value - nobody buys or sells this fish. The courts need to tell the Service it has no business imposing any regulations whatsoever related to the delta smelt - let alone extreme water cutoffs that are creating a crisis in California and could threaten the nation's food supply."

The attorneys for the suit claim that the "fish-over-people policy" of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is "immoral and flat-out unconstitutional." PLF attorneys represent three farms in California's Central Valley that have been impacted by the water cutbacks ordered by the Fish and Wildlife Service: Stewart & Jasper Orchards (an almond and walnut farm); Arroyo Farms (an almond farm); and King Pistachio Grove (a pistachio farm).

Another example is the man worship. Our new President is worshiped by many they call him the "Hope" the "messiah", putting their faith and trust in a mere man. This is what happens when truth is rejected it must be replaced by something.

I will conclude the II Commandment with this: One practices idolatry because he has put his mind in slavery through rejection of the truth. Your free will now operates according to a pattern of slavery and you bow to and worship whatever you have substituted the genuine God for. The idiocy of this is the slavery of it. By bowing or worshiping whatever form of idolatry you choose of your own free will, you have enslaved yourself.

As Americans we are twice blessed. We have freedom of our minds in what is still a free country and freedom of body although our freedom is rapidly being destroyed.

Idolatry causes both national disintegration and national judgment to decay. Freedom of the mind is lost first and then physical freedom is lost next.

The Third Commandment

'Thou shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.'

You might say it this way thou shall not use Gods name to sponsor evil. It doesn't have anything to do with exclamations of profanity as commonly thought. Although it is always good to have manners, respect, and poise. This commandment is talking about people who try and manipulate people to do what they want by saying this is what God wants.

The meaning and understanding of the principle involved in this commandment contributes greatly to the preservation of human freedom. Our forefathers demonstrated their knowledge of this commandment in the many oaths ending in "so help me God" or placing their hand on the Bible or swearing on the Bible.

It is designed to keep people true to their word or oath and keep people free from being falsely accused or convicted or erroneously coerced into some action by bringing in Gods name. Finally, one of the best examples of using the Lord's name in vain are those who use his name in the defense of killing other people or innocents - such as the "God is great" screamed by terrorists as they kill innocents in the name of god. God, one suspects, was thinking of this when he wrote this commandment.

The Fourth Commandment

'Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.'

The fourth commandment dealing with the Sabbath has been the basis for the creation of great confusion and false doctrinal ideology both in Jews and Christians. The first thing to settle is the Sabbath is the last day of the week which is Saturday. The word Sabbath means rest or cessation (idleness). The word remember connotes thinking and the word holy literally means to set aside. You work hard for six days, during which time you may do some thinking; but set aside the seventh day as the DAY FOR THINKING.

The principle in view here is that freedom demands rest and meditation. You cannot have freedom when you stop thinking or are physically exhausted. Therefore, the Sabbath was a day set aside for physical resting and mental thinking. Not a bad idea in fact I enjoy having two days to get myself together.

The Fifth Commandment

'Honor your father and your mother.'

The fifth commandment is talking about respect for authority. Although this commandment commands children to respect parental authority, that authority must be exercised justly and fairly.

Respectfulness in the home is part of a general principle of necessity for the establishment of respect for authority. It must be learned early in life, first in the family so that later it is applied to the teachers, coach, law officers, drill instructors and so on.

The 5th commandment forms the basis for the whole principle that one cannot have freedom or happiness in life without learning respect for authority.

People that have no respect for authority live in a constant state of turbulence, constantly switching jobs, demonizing authority figures to prop themselves up having a negative effect on everyone around them and it never occurs to them that it is not about who is right or who is wrong but about respect and understanding for the principle of authority. Until they learn respect for authority they will never be happy or content in their lives. This also tracks back to the upheaval in the 60's I spoke of - where those who are in charge now learned how to embrace the worst side of themselves. They have no respect for anyone except to themselves.

"The government consists of a gang of men exactly like you and me. They have, taking one with another, no special talent for the business of government they have only a talent for getting and holding office."

Horace Greeley

Only those who have themselves learned respect for authority are ever qualified to exercise authority. People with no respect for authority have no capacity for or understanding of what authority is for. Authority is what gives and protects freedom. So they are often tyrants or they bring chaos instead of order. The principle of authority exists in every facet of life and is designed for the protection of individual and national freedom.

Authority was never intended to be oppressive but instead to give freedom, any other use of authority is a misuse and is an abuse of the principle of authority. If people in the United States today understood this principle they would vote a lot of politicians out of office and take a lot more seriously the candidate they vote for.

"Authority without wisdom is like a heavy axe without an edge, fitter to bruise than polish."

Anne Bradstreet

In order to become the master, the politician poses as the servant.

Charles de Gaulle

The Sixth Commandment

'Thou shall not murder.'

The sixth commandment deals with prohibition of murder and is often mistranslated from the Hebrew word for kill which is "Kafal", but the word in the original is "ratsach" which means "to murder" a huge difference that has caused much confusion and debate for example: Sgt Alvin York the most decorated soldier of World War I was confused by this common mistranslation which almost caused him to refuse to fight as a conscientious objector until he realized the true meaning.

"Sir, I am doing wrong. Practicing to kill people is against my religion."

York, speaking of target practice at human silhouettes.

At the battle of the Argonne Forest in the fall of 1918, as a member of the 82nd division, he killed 25 Germans, knocked out 35 machine guns, and captured 132 prisoners almost single-handed.

"It's over; let's just forget about it."

York's modesty about the event that brought him the Medal of Honor.

People and soldiers must understand killing in self defense or killing the enemy in war is honorable and not murder. The only way to win wars is by killing the enemy and to lose wars by refusing to fight means loss of freedom and loss of life.

Now that we cleared up the confusion one might ask what does this have to do with freedom and I would be quick to point out the obvious. Did you ever think that if you are dead, you no longer can exercise your freedom of volition or anything else for that fact. The principle here is people can live with each other, get angry at each other and still survive because of this commandment "thou shall not commit murder."

The Seventh Commandment

'Thou shall not commit adultery.'

This deals with the protection of marriage. Marriage is an establishment principle key to the survival of a nation. Marriage is founded on love, respect, trust and freedom. Yes freedom if one is not free one is not free to love.

Adultery commonly referred to as cheating on your wife or husband is accepting a cheap substitute for self gratification a biological or emotional urge. Adultery carries extreme consequences detrimental to marriage. It always brings on an attitude change detected in their behavior similar to what happens when a person gets involved with drugs. Husbands and wives know each other so well that they can detect the slightest changes in behavior or attitude which makes for an unhappy situation. They may sense what happened or they may just sense something wrong.

Either way these uncomfortable feelings lead to distrust which is destructive to marriage. They start in the form of emotion consuming and controlling the mind. It could be a lust for more cheating, adultery, or emotional guilt neither being good. Leading to that slave mentality of the mind, we talked about. We have all seen or maybe even felt the consequences of this commandment. Thou shall not commit adultery is designed for the protection of freedom and happiness in love and marriage which is essential to the survival of a free nation. If one questions what would be the result of abolishing marriage and how it effects freedom I will give you an example from history to make the principle of this commandment more graphic.

Communist Rule in Russia

When the Bolsheviks came into power in 1917 they regarded the family, like every other "bourgeois" institution, with fierce hatred, and set out with a will to destroy it.

So at that time a law was passed which made divorce a matter of a few minutes, to be obtained at the request of either partner in a marriage. Chaos was the result. Men took to changing wives with the same zest which they displayed in the consumption of the recently restored forty-per-cent vodka.

This is a glimpse of the result.

Some men have twenty wives, living a week with one, a month with another," asserted an indignant woman delegate during the sessions of the Tzik. "They have children with all of them" and these children are thrown on the street for lack of support!" There are three hundred thousand bezprizorni or shelterless children in Russia today, who are literally turned out on the streets. They are one of the greatest social dangers of the present time, because they are developing into professional criminals. More than half of them are drug addicts and sex perverts. It is claimed by many Communists that the break-up of the family is responsible for a large percentage of these children.

Marriage is under assault in this country by the homosexual community and sadly although it is clear the majority understands the institution of marriage is between a man and a woman which perpetuates the human race I feel many are not aware of the consequences that destruction of this institution will bring on our country.

The Eighth Commandment

'Thou shall not steal.'

This is for the protection of private property it establishes a right or freedom to own personal property and it also limits the role of government to the protection of this property. The concept of privacy and private property are basic to the survival of individual freedom. If you steal something, you are encroaching on someone else's freedom. When this occurs on a national scale we have anarchy and consequently a destruction of freedom. Socialism is characterized by the destruction of privacy and property.

We see a government out of control today confiscating and redistributing wealth. In the Hebrew the word for steal refers not only to stealing something you can carry off. In that day under an agricultural economy it meant land. Today it would mean industry. The sanctity of private property is one of the most basic concepts of freedom. So anytime the government gets into industry and business a nation is not free, but is thrown into economic slavery through over taxation and removing incentive through redistribution of wealth and prohibitive regulations. This all adds up to economic disaster.

There is more to this commandment then meets the eye and the best example I can give is what we all see happening to our country today.

The Ninth Commandment

'Thou shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor.'

The first principle that must be understood here is the concept of "thy Neighbor" this does not mean the person next door to you but to the persons of the same nation in our case the United States. It could be translated "fellow citizens" thy neighbor recognizes that law must exist in the framework of its own nation and any law that breaks over national boundaries is an attack upon freedom. Basically this is designed to preserve the sovereignty and laws of our nation.

If we allow special interest groups and external international organizations like the United Nations to enforce the will and laws upon U.S. citizens, we cease to exist as a sovereign nation, Freedom is lost and we come under the tyranny of and influence of other nations and special interest groups. U.S. citizens are to be equal before the law of our nation under our Constitution and Bill of Rights. Today we have an administration trying to subject us not only to the will of other nations and organizations like the United Nations but also special interest groups within our country usurping the Constitution and Bill of Rights.

Now to move on to the rest of the commandment "Thou shall not bear false witness" means to answer as a false witness to give testimony under the law. No Nation can function without objectivity in law. The principle of objectivity in law demands that a person is innocent until proven guilty. The person must be demonstrated guilty through proper laws of evidence furnished through truthful accurate testimony in court. Laws based on the principles found in the Ten Commandments do not encroach upon freedom they preserve freedom. Unfortunately today we have many laws that do encroach upon freedom and privacy rather then protecting them. Also people are often tried in the court of public opinion instead of the courts of our country. It is obvious how violating these principles violates freedom in our nation.

The Tenth Commandment

'Thou shall not covet your neighbor's house; you shall not covet your neighbor's wife, nor his male servant, nor his female servant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's.'

This last commandment forbids the coveting or desiring of the property, the persons, or the personal status of other citizens in our nation or of their business, assets or of anything belonging to fellow citizens. This commandment is most apropos to what is happening in our country today.

Basically covet means to desire and it is not necessarily wrong to desire things but when desire overrules objective thought this leads to uncontrolled desires becoming lusts that can lead to envy, jealousy, bitterness and hatred. Lusts are unrestrained emotions ruling your life and decisions, and if gone unchecked it destroys individual freedom and happiness. When a maximum number of people in a nation are under this emotional rule the freedom of the nation is destroyed. We have a huge number of people that want what others have today without working for it and have voted into office politicians that promised to fulfill their desires. We are now watching the wealth of our nation being redistributed and confiscated by our government all in violation of this commandment.

"It is in the character of very few men to honor without envy a friend who has prospered."

Aeschylus

In a consumer society there are inevitably two kinds of slaves: the prisoners of addiction and the prisoners of envy.

2Illich, Ivan

The Ten Commandments is the Magna Carter of freedom for all humans in our world.

These principles are the very foundation upon which America was built and they constitute a marvelous heritage. Unfortunately today these principles are not understood, rarely taught and are being rejected by us as a people and undermined by those dedicated to our destruction as a free nation. By removing the Ten Commandments we are destroying our heritage the very basis for everyone's freedom.

"For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous."

I John 5:3

"Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of freemen and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today's world do not have."

Ronald Reagan

"A true warrior is never a slave to circumstances for he knows that freedom starts and exists in the mind. And if he is free in the mind he is truly free."

Tim Davis / Special Tactics Memorial March

Starting on October 6th, 12 men will begin an 850 mile plus ruck trip. They will carry packs of 50 lbs each. What is more important, they will carry the memory of their lost brothers in the war on terror. They will carry a baton with the names of the Combat Controllers that have been lost. My son's name will be on that baton.

It sickens me that the news no longer considers it of any importance to report on these losses. These men will take their leave and walk for the over 750 children of their lost brothers. These children don't have a voice....only sorrow. Has the lost field of honest journalism gone completely to the reporting of car industries, economy and fair air time for Obama?

I'm sorry, but this is the news they should be reporting. I will be joining these men in different parts of their march for the children of the fallen. For all of their efforts to raise awareness and $50,000 it looks like they have only raised $2,500. Where in the world is the grateful America I knew and that my son died for?

Yes, I am trying to help. If you wish to help these men accomplish their goal:

Hi Dave!

Hope you are well! Thanks for all the GREAT Voice of the Soldier you send out!!! I truly enjoy reading them, and look forward to receiving next month's!!!

I sent you a copy of book I wrote about my son, SSG Chris Falkel called The Making of OUR Warrior. You had mentioned several months ago that you would like to review it and possibly write about it, and I would greatly appreciate it. It was indeed a labor of love, for me and Chris ODA, but it has touched so many other people that we never imagined it would reach and talk to their heart as well as OURS.

Let me know if you need any more Bullet Pens. We are just about ready to launch them into the military exchange system.

Hope you have a great 4th of July, and I look forward to hearing what you think about OUR book.

David Jr. Meets His Commander in Chief

Subject: David Jr. Meets His commander In Chief

For those who do not know Dave Borden, he is a former Black & Decker employee who lives in Hanover. His son Dave Jr was serving in Iraq and was badly injured from a bomb explosion. Dave Jr has had over 38 surgeries to date.

The email below is from a recent visit from President Obama, the email speaks for its self.

...

Since Dave Jr. has been injured he has met and been overwhelmed by many, many political and military "celebs".

The list includes Bob Gates, Sec. of Defense, who came into his room and told him 3 or 4 times that if Dave Jr. had any issues to call his cell phone number.

It includes Gen. Petreus who sat and talked with Dave Jr. for almost 45 minutes. The General recalled vividly all of the circumstances around the events that led to fighting that Dave was involved in. It includes Sen. McCain who arrived late on a Saturday afternoon during a thunder storm, unannounced, and talked to Dave Jr. about how similar their experiences with fate.

It includes George Bush when Dave Jr. was invited to attend the very last Christmas party at the White House for the White House Staff. President Bush and his wife entered the ballroom and immediately went to Dave Jr.. President Bush knew Dave Jr.'s name as well as when and how he was injured. Dave Jr. had a picture taken with Laura and the President that he has framed and will cherish forever.

The list goes on and on of people coming in to meet Dave Jr. and the other wounded warriors at Walter Reed and Bethesda.

Yesterday. Dave Jr. was ordered to be at the National Naval Hospital with another 12 soldiers and Marines to meet with Obama. Obama was supposed to arrive at 11:30 AM. He finally got there at 3:00 PM. He entered the room with the wounded warriors and quickly shook each of their hands. He never asked their names, where they were from, or how they were injured. Then he left.

Dave Jr. has met the people who really care about the military. All he remembers from Obama is a weak handshake.

The others in the room, younger and less exposed to the people that Dave Jr. has met, were so disappointed.

Word about Obama's "insensitive" visit has spread to the MATC ( the rehab facility) at Walter Reed and throughout Bethesda. The military sees through his phoniness.

All I can say is that it is such a disappointment that this man is Commander-In-Chief of our Armed Forces.

He is an embarassment to our Nation.

Regards,
Dave

Dear Friends and Family,

I just want to let everyone know about a new project I've just finished.

"It's the Tribes, Stupid: War and Reality in Afghanistan"

It's not a book or a tour, it's five 5-minute video op-ed pieces and a blog on the subject of Afghanistan, the tribal mindset, and our U.S. military involvement there.

The post "Gifts of Honor: A Tale of Two Captains," has been called "an example of the COIN (counterinsurgency) Model working."

I'm not doing this for money (in fact it's costing me money!) but just as a citizen, and a former Marine, wanting to contribute to the debate that's going on in the Obama White House and other places.

I've spoken on this subject at West Point, Quantico, Camp Lejeune and Camp Pendleton and, though our young Marines and soldiers are getting some training in this area, my fear is that it's not in-depth enough and that it's not extending far enough down the food chain. Officers of course need a background in this subject, but our enlisted troopers on the ground-the much-talked-about "strategic corporals"-need it just as badly.

Guest bloggers who specialize in a wide range of topics related to the military, international policy, and the Middle East, will also post blog entries as we move forward.

I know this subject is not everyone's cup of tea, but if you're interested, take a look.

Post your replies whether or not you agree or disagree with me and/or the guest bloggers.

Above all - join the conversation. Let me - and others - know what you think. The goal is to educate.

Please feel free to forward this link http://blog.stevenpressfield.com.

Thanks!
Steve

The Northrop Grumman X-47 Pegasus is a demonstration Unmanned Combat Aerial Vehicle. The X-47 began as part of DARPA's J-UCAS program, and is now part of the United States Navy's UCAS-D program to create a carrier-based unmanned aircraft. Unlike the Boeing X-45, initial Pegasus development was company-funded. The original vehicle carries the designation X-47A, while the follow-on naval version is designated X-47B.

Who knows, maybe this whole Skynet, Terminator Movie thing might turn out to be a reality.

Top This One For A Speeding Ticket

Two California Highway Patrol Officers were conducting speeding enforcement on I-15, just north of the Marine Corps Air Station at Miramar . One of the officers was using a hand held radar device to check speeding vehicles approaching the crest of a hill. The officers were suddenly surprised when the radar gun began reading 300 miles per hour. The officer attempted to reset the radar gun, but it would not reset and then turned off.

Just then a deafening roar over the treetops revealed that the radar had in fact locked on to a USMC F/A-18 Hornet (Northrop Grumman aircraft) which was engaged in a low flying exercise near the location.

Back at the CHP Headquarters the Patrol Captain fired off a complaint to the USMC Base Commander. The reply came back in true USMC style:

~ ~ ~

Thank you for your letter. We can now complete the file on this incident.

You may be interested to know that the tactical computer in the Hornet had detected the presence of, and subsequently locked on to your hostile radar equipment and automatically sent a jamming signal back to it, which is why it shut down.

Furthermore, an Air-to-Ground missile aboard the fully armed aircraft had also automatically locked on to your equipment location.

Fortunately, the Marine Pilot flying the Hornet recognized the situation for what it was, quickly responded to the missile system alert status and was able to override the automated defense system before the missile was launched to destroy the hostile radar position.

The pilot also suggests you cover your mouths when cussing at them, since the video systems on these jets are very high tech.

Sergeant Johnson, the officer holding the radar gun, should get his dentist to check his left rear molar. It appears the filling is loose. Also, the snap is broken on his holster.

Thank you for your concern.

A Chance To Put It On The Record

www.myfamilymemoirs.com is a website where anyone is welcome to tell the story of their own life or the life of someone who deserves recognition and save it for posterity as well as put it before an interested audience and professional agents, publishers and producers who just might find a best seller or a great TV show. The founder of the website is Monika Jensen-Stevenson, who, along with her husband Bill Stevenson wrote the bestseller, Kiss The Boys Goodbye: How the United States Betrayed its own POWs in Vietnam which was dedicated in part to ". . . the men of U.S Special Forces who wanted to go back and get them (the prisoners.)"

A large part of her motivation in creating the site grew out of her increasing frustration with not being able to include great numbers of important cases of men left behind because there is just so much material that fits into a book. It was a situation she encountered with all of her books, and earlier when she was an Emmy award winning producer with Sixty Minutes. Her goal with this website is not just to list names of MIA/POWs and those who were willing to and often did sacrifice everything for country. She wants people to know that these men were truly the best and brightest of their generation; to see photos of them, learn about their families and what they accomplished and keep it on record, in alphabetical order so that even our great and great great grandchildren will have easy access to it. A comprehensive record of this kind can help identify any POWs who were, or may be, still alive. As he years pass, this possibility becomes more and more remote. But there is always the hope for setting the record straight.

Monika says that she can only achieve this admittedly huge goal with the help of as many veterans as possible. The website is free and easy to use. Memoirs can be as short as a paragraph, captioned photo or as long as a book, photo album or video. Check out the current memoir of the month by First Sergeant Joseph Welsh (Ret.) who as military adviser to the website will be happy to help anyone who has technical questions. And pass the link along to family and friends. www.myfamilymemoirs.com

Spiritual Life or Bitterness

By Rev G.J. Rako
LTC (Ret)
IN USAR

Bitterness manifests itself in anger, hatred, jealousy, revenge, maligning, judging, gossip, self- justification, self-deception, self-centeredness, self-pity, implacability, and malice. To be blunt and cut through the bovine defecation (BS), this is arrogance. Bitterness is the quickest way to destroy relationships; human relationships, and more importantly your relationship with the creator of the universe.

Rom 12:2-3, "Stop being conformed to the trends of this age, but be transformed by the renovation of your thinking, that you may prove what the will of God is: the good, the acceptable to God, the complete. For I say through the grace which has been given to me to everyone who is among you, stop thinking of self in terms of arrogance beyond what you ought to think, but think in terms of sanity as God has assigned to each one of us a standard of thinking from doctrine."

Eph 4:31, "All bitterness, both anger and wrath both quarreling and slander, must be removed from you, along with all malice."

Col 3:19, "Husbands, love your wives, and stop being bitter against them."

Bitter people are miserable people. They destroy their relationships by the various manifestations of bitterness directed toward those they are closest. They cannot have a relationship with the Lord because they are consistently in carnality. They do not confess their sins because in their self-deception and self-justification they believe they have not sinned resulting in self-righteousness. Therefore, they ignore the command found in I John 1:9, and by doing so, they have effectively destroyed their spiritual life.

I John 1:9 If we (believers in Christ) confess our sins to Him (God the Father), He is faithful (He does the same thing over, and over again) and justified (because Christ paid for these sins on the cross) to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

By confessing our sins to God the Father, we appropriate His solution to sin in our lives by grace. Grace means God does the work and we can in no way take credit for His perfect work. Confession of our sins is the only way to be filled with the Holy Spirit, the only way to have fellowship with God. The bitter person will not confess his sins because in his self-justification, he is always right and everyone else is wrong. Therefore, he has no sins to confess. This is self-deception and perpetual carnality.

Hence, the destruction of the spiritual life is complete.

You may find yourself as the object of someone's bitterness. The immediate tendency is to react. Reaction to hatred, anger, vilification, jealousy and the rest of bitterness' manifestations is also sin. This reaction removes you from fellowship with God. It is a test of your spiritual growth. Unjust treatment by others is always a temptation to sin. The reaction itself is the sin of arrogance and by it we "think more highly of ourselves than we ought."

Rom 12:3 For I say through the grace which has been given to me to everyone who is among you, stop thinking of self in terms of arrogance beyond what you ought to think, but think in terms of sanity as God has assigned to each one of us a standard of thinking from doctrine."

Bitterness is contagious like a cancer and causes those near to become defiled with sin.

Heb 12:15, "See to it that no one comes short of the grace of God and that no root of bitterness springing up cause [you] trouble, and by it many are contaminated."

The solution for the believer in Christ under attack by bitterness is found in many passages of scripture.

Eph 4:32, "But become gracious toward one another, compassionate, and forgiving each other, just as God also by means of Christ has forgiven us."

Rom 12:17-19 Never pay back evil with evil to anyone. Respect what is right in the eyes of all men. If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men. Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, says the Lord, I will repay."

We remain on earth after salvation to glorify God. God is glorified when He can use us for His purpose on earth. He cannot use us unless we fulfill the command to "Grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ" (II Peter 3:18). We are to grow in all aspects of Him who is the head, that is Christ (Eph 4:14-15).

Eph 4:13 Until we all attain the to the unity of doctrine, and the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

We are to execute the unique spiritual life of the church age by advancing to spiritual maturity. By doing so, our relationship with the Lord is strengthened by doctrine circulating in the right lobe of our soul. Our gratitude towards God is maximized and we personally begin to love God. God blesses us in this life, rewards us in eternity, and provides opportunities to express our personal love for Him, impersonal love for all mankind, and our gratitude for all that He has provided for us when we grow spiritually. There is no room for bitterness in our lives. Bitterness is perpetual carnality.

Carnality and spirituality cannot co-exist. You are either spiritual (filled with the Holy Spirit) or carnal (grieving or quenching the Holy Spirit; Eph 4:30).

If you are an unbeliever, the only issue is the person and work of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ as eternal God became a man, perfect in everyway, born without sin. He was the perfect Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world (John 1:29). Jesus Christ lived a perfect life without one act of personal sin. He went to the cross where God the Father poured out on Him every sin past, present, and future of everyone. God the Father then judged those sins in His (Jesus Christ) own body on the cross.

When Jesus died spiritually for every sin ever committed, his work was complete and He said "Finished" salvation was complete. He accomplished all the work. All we can do to appropriate this so great salvation is to believe in Him.

Acts 16:31 Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved.

John 1:12 But as many as received Him to them He gave the power to become sons of God, to those that believe on His name.

John 3:15 so that whoever believes in Him will have eternal life.

John 3:16 For God loved the world so much that He gave His uniquely born Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.

John 3:36a He who believes in the Son has eternal life...

John 14:6 Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the father but, by me.

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men whereby we must be saved.

Eph 2:8-9 For by grace we have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves it is a gift of God, not as a result of works so that no man can boast.

God demands perfection. The humanity of Christ was perfect. Therefore, God can only be satisfied with the work of Christ. There is nothing we can do to please God. That is why faith alone in Christ alone is the only way of salvation. When we believe in Christ, God gives us forty things. One of these is the imputation of God's perfect righteousness. We are therefore completely justified by the work of Christ on the cross. He took our place. He was our substitute. He died so that we may live. Another of the forty is the imputation of God's very own life. The moment we believe in Christ God gives us eternal life. We have His life; we will live with God forever.

The choice is yours accept the gift of salvation by faith in Christ and have life or face eternal condemnation.

John 3:36 He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey [the command to believe in] the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.

A message from
Big City Cops

www.bigcitycops.com

Hello everyone, hope all is well. Here's a great article on what to consider when rescuing a downed officer. Often our emotions get the best of us and we make a rescue attempt without considering our own safety. With the current economical situation, not only do we need to worry about crooks, but also the average person overwhelmed with financial stress.

This article applies to all LE, not just the special teams or units. Please discuss this in rollcall, let's make sure we're all on the same sheet of music on officer rescue. The life you save may be your own.

R.E.S.C.U.E.:
Saving the life of a downed officer without sacrificing your own

Few emotional flashpoints in policing match seeing a fellow officer go down from hostile fire in an active kill zone. Unchecked, the desperate urge at that awful moment to do something can easily backfire with more casualties…and still leave the original victim at the suspect's mercy.

A creative trainer from South Carolina has devised a simple action plan that can help guide you through an organized, tactical response to that gut-wrenching challenge. It provides a calming, structured approach to the critical moment when emotions need to be put on hold to save lives.

Appropriately, his strategy is keyed to the mnemonic: R.E.S.C.U.E.

Sean McKay, a paramedic and co-founder of the independent training organization Asymmetric Combat Institute in Taylors, S.C., introduced his concept at the recent ILEETA training conference during a presentation called, "I'm Shot...Now What?"

Here's what he says a well-managed R.E.S.C.U.E. entails when the assailant is still at large and an officer is down in a potential hot zone.

Remote Assessment

First, explains McKay, a former SWAT rescue-medic team leader, you need to objectively evaluate the status of the downed officer from a point of cover or concealment, enhancing your "eyes on" with monocular/binoculars or night vision goggles if available.

If it's not immediately obvious he's alive, "look for any signs of life - chest rise or any movement whatsoever." The officer may be playing dead and breathing very shallowly to avoid drawing more fire. If so, he may be able to subtly and surreptitiously move his hand to where he can cue his mic a couple of times as an indication to you that he's alive - without alerting the suspect.

"If you detect no movement, no sign of breathing, brain matter extruded from his skull - in other words, good reason to conclude he's dead - bunker down and don't attempt a rescue at this point," McKay advises, as hard as that may be to do. "You have to be careful who you go after. You want to do the most good for the most people. If the officer has suffered a penetrating wound that has stopped his heart and respiration, his chance of survival is nil. The mission must become eliminating additional injuries."

With signs of life, can the officer safely move to your position or to closer cover if you put down suppressive fire? Can he apply pressure or a tourniquet to his wounds?

"You may have to verbally remind him of what he can do, like how to use his belt to stop bleeding, for example," McKay says. "Under stress, his thinking may be too disrupted to reason through these things on his own."

Evaluation of Threat Location(s)

If you decide an immediate rescue is necessary, you need to identify where the suspect(s) can fire at you from during your action. When the attacker is barricaded in a house with the officer down in the yard, for example, his options for engagement are generally limited to doors and windows. Ideally, other officers can monitor these locations from triangulated positions while you (perhaps with a rescue team) concentrate on reaching the wounded officer with minimal time and exposure.

"It seems like rescuers usually want to advance to the casualty directly from the front, but in reality that may not be the smartest thing," McKay observes. An angled approach from the side of the house or even from next door may reduce your time and distance in the kill zone, may provide more surprise to the assailant, and may force him to adjust his stance to target you, thereby exposing him more to your cover team.

Situational Awareness

This refers to cover consciousness: What is the last point of cover you can use before passing a point-of-no-return to reach the wounded officer and what is the first point of cover you can reach when extracting him?

"These do not have to be the same," McKay says. "The cover you go to with the casualty should be the nearest or tactically best cover. Maybe it's a big tree or a truck up on blocks in the yard, where you can get down behind the engine block to administer first aid. You don't want to drag the downed officer all the way back to where you started if there's something closer. From there, you may extract further to better cover.

"You need to make this evaluation before you leave your last point of cover, and ideally you need to communicate where you're going to other officers before you start."

Under stress you'll probably have to fight getting locked in to a very narrow, tunneled focus, a tendency to "operate with horse blinders on," in McKay's words. "Try to see the scene from a 30,000-foot view," he suggests, to broaden your scope to encompass all your cover options.

In range training, McKay works to improve officers' observation skills by planting odd, out-of-context items - an alarm clock, a Russian flag - at scattered point across the areas they're told to scan. "They have to call out everything their eyes sweep by, and this strengthens their ability to really see when they look."

Cover Fire/Overwatch

If the offender's location is known or suspected and manpower is available, sending suppressive fire in his direction can be an important protective measure during the rescue. At the very least, someone not involved in the actual extraction should be watching the potential threat locations for hostile activity.

"Not everyone at the scene needs to rush in to the casualty," McKay cautions. "You need someone watching your 6 so you can focus on the rescue and don't have to be looking for a threat all the time.

"Cover fire doesn't necessarily mean blanket fire. Sporadic rounds to the suspect's location may be enough to draw his attention away from the rescue."

Utilization of Assets and Distraction

"One of the things you want to do immediately at the scene is assess what you have that you can deploy to assist the situation," McKay says. "Maybe it's portable cover, like a fire truck or garbage truck or even a patrol car that can be driven as a shield between the downed officer and the threat."

Or maybe you can use equipment to distract the assailant for the few seconds necessary to accomplish the rescue. Again, assuming the suspect is barricaded inside a house, you might fire beanbag rounds against the siding to create noise or toss flashbangs through a window or smash a window with your baton or drive a patrol car through the backyard with siren wailing.

"The idea is to draw the suspect's attention off the casualty to another stimulus, to make him react to something you've initiated," McKay explains. "When you distract him, you reset his mind, and whatever plans he had go out the window. You now have the advantage."

The distraction doesn't have to last long. With well-practiced maneuvers, McKay says, a successful rescue can often be achieved in a matter of seconds.

Evacuation

"Everyone wants to do a head-first extraction," McKay says, "but sometimes it's faster and more effective to drag the downed officer to cover feet-first. Clip a hobble around his ankles or rig one up with a strip of webbing and a carabiner and pull him out. If he is so badly injured he can't rescue himself, a little road rash on his butt is not going to be a big deal."

McKay teaches other extraction options as well, including carries involving multiple officers. But any method needs extensive practice in advance. "The heat of battle is not the time to try to improvise a rescue technique," he says.

"The objective is to move a heavy mass behind cover as quickly as possible so that medical attention can be given there. In practicing, you'll learn how to use human weight to help you move faster while keeping a low profile. You'll learn how to move steadily and not in a series of jerks and stops, to be a harder target.

"Think of the spot where the officer went down as 'X.' Ideally, you want to spend no more than 4-6 seconds on X. Knowing in advance what you're going to do and how to do it will put you well ahead of most officers out there."

High-threat rescue and extraction, incorporating the R.E.S.C.U.E. strategy, is one of a number of intense tactical courses taught by the Asymmetric Combat Institute, which McKay founded with Ted Westmoreland to provide survival training for law enforcement, firefighters, and the military. McKay will be teaching a course on extraction techniques at the annual IACP convention next October in Denver and is collaborating on a book about high-threat rescue during "non-linear" conflicts with Lt. Col. Dave Grossman.

What Has Really Changed?

Thanks

1949

All of a sudden it hit me just now, how lucky I am. Nine-tenths of the world is afraid-but I haven't got anything to be afraid of. A lot of the world is hungry-I don't really know what hunger is.

Where my grandfather lived, he could never hope to "rise above his station". Nobody decides what my "place" is, and best of all, nobody wants to ... I can rise and grow as far as I'm willing to pay the price, in hard work and self-denial.

What I have is mine-I can spend it or save it, and if I save it I can keep it, for myself or my children; no man dares take from me what I have earned.

I can be lazy and just get by, or I can work and be paid more and more as I produce more. Or, I can go into business and be my own boss.

My children will start where I leave off; they can keep on, and go farther and farther, better and better.

I can think and say what I want. I need never shrink in fear of anyone. No one commands me, no one will command my children.

I don't much care what you call this-free enterprise or the American way, or democracy; names don't matter: It's America. I like it. Don't let anybody dare try to change it. I like it this way.

I fought for it once. My boy fought for it this time. Both of us will fight again if anyone, from outside or in, tries to cheat us of this we love. It isn't perfect but it's the best there is.

I like it. I'm grateful. Stop monkeying with it.

Defend Americanism? . . . Why?

Why should we need to defend the finest system of decency the world has ever seen? Let the other side be the one on the defensive. Let them try to tell you one single desirable thing they can offer.

The profit-and-loss system is the only system the world ever saw that lets a man keep his self-respect . . . it's the only system where decent men act with decency . . . the only system that has conquered famines and plagues . . . the only system where fair play counts and justice is understood, honored, sought. This profit-and-loss system is the only one in history that ever guaranteed life and liberty, the only one in which men may even hope for the pursuit of happiness.

Defend this system? Defend Americanism? No! Extend it!

VOIT UDT Duck Feet Fins

The ever-popular Voit UDT Duck Feet are back - extreme propulsion fins, the most highly acclaimed and coveted fin since its inception. Improved performance, appreciated by all, from SEALS to surfers. Order actual shoe size for use with bare feet or fin sock. Consider ordering one size larger if you intend to wear booties.

UDT Duck Feet fins are used at Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL Training

The most highly acclaimed and coveted swim fin since its inception is back. The molds have been returned to American soil and the VOIT UDT Duck Feet are now made in the USA by people who understand not only fin design and function, but by people who value the responsibility of inheriting, improving, protecting, and perpetuating the tradition of greatness that this product is known for. UDT Duck Feet always have been strongly preferred by U.S. Navy SEALs, big wave bodysurfers, kneeboarders, scuba divers, skin divers and professionals in the lifesaving community, and with their re-release have quickly become the most sought-after swim fin to be included in the water athletes product arsenal.

Featuring:

• New rubber durometer values and loading patterns result in a fin with a plethora of advantages and enhanced attributes

• Twisting action of the fin "releases" water by loading one side of the fin. The resulting lateral force component increases maneuverability and stability, as seen in aquatic organisms

• Foot pocket and blade made of similar material, yet the outer ribs are relatively rigid. This guarantees an inflection point distally removed from the foot. The result is that all of your power gets transferred to this distal inflection point, creating more forward thrust than conventionally stiff fins of the past.

Tactical Tips

The SEAL CSS

As neck deep in the heat and obsticles summer warfare brings us, for those of you stuck in the heat one of the "-Stans" dreaming of a cool pool...or ocean or in the broiling gulf zone heat or about to tackle the waters of the horn of Africa remember Whether you are a beginning swimmer or an aspiring SEAL or combat swimmer in harms way: The SEAL CSS( Combat Swimmer Stroke).

When you find yourself in deep water with a lot of distance to cover, the CSS will serve you well especially when you are wearing fins. You will tire less quickly if you learn to perform this stroke properly. This stroke can really help you efficiently move through the water. Actually, the CSS is a mix of sidestroke, breaststroke, and a little freestyle. The Combat Swimmer stroke is similar to the sidestroke since it is done on your side, however the top arm pulls just like a freestyle stroke but recovers underwater like the breaststroke. If that confused you, maybe it is just best to observe, because a picture is worth 1000 words.

The object to the CSS and side stroke is efficiency - you should try to get across a 25m pool in as few strokes as possible. If you are doing more than 10 strokes per length you are working too hard. In fact, the fastest and best swimmers get across a 25m pool in 3-5 strokes. THE START: In a big squat position against the wall - push off and stay as streamlined as possible as you glide at least 5-10 yards off the wall. Place your hands on top of each other, place your bicep on your ears, and lock out your arms - streamlined positioning like a rocket.

THE GLIDE: With a big double arm pull, add the other 3-5 yards to your glide by pulling with your back, biceps and pushing water with your arms using your triceps.

Kick using a breast stroke kick or scissor kick and recover your arms together.

THE ARM MOVEMENT: After the arm pull, it is time to breathe - twist and breath then start using the top arm pull as shown. Notice both arms recover together forward, but the top arm pulls from overhead all the way to your hips (similar to freestyle stroke). Then the bottom arm pulls a half stroke (similar to breast stroke) and both arms recover together. Breathe as the top arm completes its pull and the bottom arm begins its pull.

THE KICK: Use the scissor kick and time your kicks so your top leg always goes forward (no matter what side you are on). You should kick just after both arms have pulled and are recovering - adding more glide to each stroke.

Long Range Shooting Caliber Tips

(courtesy Cactus Tactical)

Some factors that should be considered when choosing a caliber are: inherent accuracy; availability of ammunition, brass, and bullets; accessories; maximum effective range; and availability of the desired rifle. All calibers undergo extensive testing for function, accuracy, and barrel life. Military cartridges have been tested even more and are better documented. Most rifles selected for long range shooting will be fired a lot and are expected to maintain accuracy for thousands of rounds. Many cartridges are not suited for this type of shooting due to inaccuracy, barrel life, cost, recoil and availability. There are exceptions for those long range( tactical shooters or) hunters that need more energy, shoot fewer rounds, and don't mind recoil. This data is intended more for tactical shooters but the concepts are the same for big game hunters. A rifle must be very accurate to score hits at 300 yards and beyond. Many shooters go out to a thousand yards. A rifle and the cartridge must be capable of 1 Minute of Angle (MOA) or better to qualify as 'accurate'.

Barrel life: One of the main criteria for acceptable military cartridges is barrel life. .223 Rem, .7x57 Mauser, 308 Win, and 30-'06 were all military cartridges developed with full auto in mind. Full auto causes accelerated throat erosion and bore wear. The throat of the chamber erodes from flame cutting and will cause inaccuracy. By designing the case with the optimum shoulder angle and case dimensions, throat life is extended.

Bore wear is not related to case design. It is more dependent on velocity and bullet weight. It's easy to inspect for bore wear because the bullet is at maximum velocity at the muzzle. Look for shallow rifling near the muzzle. Data for non-military Bore wear is not related to case design. It is more dependent on velocity and bullet weight. barrel life is hard to come by and is based on gunsmith experience. Most military (not full auto operation) barrels are expected to last at least 10, 000 rounds for throat and bore life.

Actions and platforms: Bolt action and single shot rifles typically have a tighter chamber, tighter lockup, and are built on a stable platform (frame and stock). Semi-autos, pumps and lever action rifles typically have looser chambers and lockups to prevent malfunctions. Their platforms are often unstable. Most shooters prefer a bolt or single shot for long range performance, accuracy, and excellent caliber selection. .224 bore (5.56 mm): The 223 Remington (5.56 NATO) is an excellent choice. Its a little light for extreme distances but ammo is cheap and very available, accuracy is excellent, and recoil is very tame. Almost every manufacturer offers rifles chambered in this great military cartridge.Bullet weight range for 223 is 45 to 60 grains. Heavier bullets may be used but require a faster twist rate.

308 bore: .308 (7.62mm) diameter bullets are the most popular on the market probably because they support the two most popular 30 caliber cartridges, the 308 Winchester (7.62 NATO) and the 30-'06 Springfield. Both military cartridges are well suited for long range shooting and have very similar ballistics. The 308 Win is inherently accurate and an efficient cartridge that is shorter and a little slower than the '06. Rifle and ammunition availability for both cartridges is probably the best of any caliber. Recoil is stout but manageable. .308 bullets are available in 100 to 220 grain and optimize with 150 168 grain in both cartridges.

Conclusions: You may have noticed all the above cartridges are military based except the 22-250 and even its case is nearly the same as a 308. All others except the 223 Rem are based on either the 308 Win or the 30-'06 cases. the above tried and true cartridges will make a good long range solution that will offer excellent accuracy potential, long barrel life, and availability. If you don't see your favorite cartridge listed, it's because of barrel life, availability, or other subjective criteria. That doesn't mean it's a poor performer.

Fake nation tests tomorrow's Special Forces

RAMSEUR, N.C. (AP) - With cigarette-stained fingers, he reaches into the right back pocket of his jeans and fishes out a worn black leather wallet. Inside are a North Carolina driver's license and some creased greenbacks bearing the face of George Washington.

Now: the other pocket. The wallet is identical, but its contents are like nothing you've ever seen. The ID card is recognized nowhere in the world. The work permit is for a job he doesn't hold. The wad of cash is bright yellow and, in the United States, utterly worthless.

He is tall, aging, with a long gray beard that would make a Civil War general proud. His name? That depends. Such is life in Pineland, a country - well, a "country," really - where who you are depends on which wallet you choose.

Pineland is a contradiction that exists for the best of causes. It is a real place that does not exist, or, perhaps, a fake place that does. It is a military training ground etched onto the landscape itself - a community with a backstory hewn from whole cloth that helps real American soldiers stay alive in real American wars. And much like the country that contains it, Pineland is a society founded upon an idea - that freedom and a fire to fight for it are more than slogans.

That is what Pineland means. This is what Pineland is...

Obama birth doc update: Kenya sources weigh in

Comparison with similar certificates suggests fakery, WND probe reveals

By Jerome R. Corsi

NEW YORK - The Kenyan birth document released by California attorney Orly Taitz is probably not authentic, according to WND's investigative operatives in Africa, though officials in Nairobi do not rule out the possibility President Obama may indeed have been born in their country.

WND obtained several samples of Kenyan birth certificates in use around Aug. 4, 1961, the date of Obama's birth, showing differences from the Taitz document.

WND reported Sunday on the document Taitz has been trying to authenticate.

Few hurdles for Canada smugglers to get choppers

By GENE JOHNSON, Associated Press Writer

MALAKWA, British Columbia – Colin Martin was on bail, appealing his sentence for leading a U.S.-Canada drug conspiracy involving aircraft. But he was still able to obtain three helicopters, two of which ended up being flown by drug smugglers.

His case illustrates the remarkable ease with which smugglers have obtained flight training and helicopters as they grab a share of Canada's sprawling, multibillion-dollar trade in marijuana, cocaine and MDMA, or Ecstasy.

Of about 10 pilots arrested in roundups of British Columbia-based helicopter smuggling operations this decade, at least half had recently trained at flight schools, sometimes dropping out once they knew just enough to handle the machine, an Associated Press review found.

Basque Terror Group ETA Marks 50th Anniversary With New Attacks

By LISA ABEND / MADRID

When a handful of students in northern Spain got together in July 1959 to form a group dedicated to winning independence for the Basque Country, they could hardly have known that they would one day become Europe's longest-enduring terrorist group. This week, ETA (the initials stand for Basque Homeland and Freedom in Euskera, the Basque language), marked the 50th anniversary of its founding with yet more bloodshed: over 40 people injured by a bomb in the northern city of Burgos on July 29 and two Civil Guards killed by another on the holiday island of Majorca the next day.

The attacks were not wholly unexpected. ETA often steps up its campaign of violence during the summer months, and in recent weeks Spain's Interior Ministry had heightened security at a number of sensitive targets across the country. It wasn't enough - the Burgos bomb was attached to a van parked outside a Civil Guard barracks; the Majorca one was tied beneath a Civil Guard car.

But while ETA's violent tactics are now taken for granted, the reason behind them is harder to fathom - it's been 50 years and, still, ETA hasn't achieved its aim. "ETA is going to interpret these attacks as a show of its own strength," says Rogelio Alonso, terrorism expert at the Madrid's University of King Juan Carlos. "But it's a strength that's more fictitious than real."

Home of the Brave

JFK'S Secretary of State, Dean Rusk, was in France in the early 60's when DeGaule decided to pull out of NATO. DeGaule said he wanted all US military out of France as soon as possible.

Rusk responded "does that include those who are buried here?

DeGuale did not respond.

You could have heard a pin drop

When in England, at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.

He answered by saying, 'Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return.'

You could have heard a pin drop.

There was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American. During a break, one of the French engineers came back into the room saying 'Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?'

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: 'Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have?'

You could have heard a pin drop.

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries. Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English. He then asked, 'Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?'

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied, 'Maybe it's because the Brit's, Canadians, Aussie's and Americans arranged it so you wouldn't have to speak German.'

You could have heard a pin drop.

AND THIS STORY FITS RIGHT IN WITH THE ABOVE...

Robert Whiting, an elderly gentleman of 83, arrived in Paris by plane. At French Customs, he took a few minutes to locate his passport in his carry on.

"You have been to France before, monsieur?" the customs officer asked sarcastically.

Mr. Whiting admitted that he had been to France previously.

"Then you should know enough to have your passport ready."

The American said, 'The last time I was here, I didn't have to show it."

"Impossible. Americans always have to show your passports on arrival in France !"

The American senior gave the Frenchman a long hard look. Then he quietly explained, ''Well, when I came ashore at Omaha Beach on D-Day in 1944 to help liberate this country, I couldn't find a single Frenchmen to show a passport to."

You could have heard a pin drop.

Warship christened at Maine shipyard for NY Marine

By DAVID SHARP, Associated Press Writer

BATH, Maine - In a solemn ceremony punctuated by talk of courage, service and sacrifice, the mother of a Marine corporal on Saturday christened a warship honoring her son, who died after covering an exploding grenade to protect his comrades in Iraq.

After composing herself and taking a deep breath, Deb Dunham smashed a bottle of champagne over the bow of the 510-foot warship Jason Dunham, then held the bottle aloft before a cheering crowd of more than 1,500 people.

She was joined by the Marines who served with her son, by her husband, Dan Dunham, and their daughter Katelyn Dunham. Two other Dunham boys also were in the audience.

NRA threats on Sotomayor met with shrugs

By JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The National Rifle Association's threat to punish senators who vote for Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor has been met with a shrug by Democrats from conservative-leaning states and some Republicans who are breaking with their party to support her.

The gun rights group is used to getting its way by spooking lawmakers about the political consequences of defying its wishes. But it never before has weighed in on a Supreme Court confirmation battle. It was cautious about breaking that pattern, and it looks like a losing a fight to defeat President Barack Obama's first pick for the court.

Sikh soldiers guard Queen Elizabeth II

LONDON - Queen Elizabeth II has switched bearskin hats for turbans outside Buckingham Palace, where Sikh soldiers have begun guarding the monarch and her treasures, Britain's defense ministry said Friday.

Signaler Simranjit Singh and Lance Cpl. Sarvjit Singh are the first Sikhs to take part in patrols outside the queen's residence and to stand watch over the Crown jewels at the Tower of London across town.

Guard duties are usually carried out by the Guards of Household Division, famed for their bearskin hats and crimson coats that attract picture-taking tourists in their thousands. The ministry said the Sikh soldiers instead wore turbans and blue uniforms.

Tim Kennedy is ready for his next fight and a video game debut that could result in his banishment from the Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The former special forces soldier, who still has a home in Fayetteville, confirmed that his next Strikeforce Challengers fight will be Sept. 25 at an undisclosed location. Kennedy couldn't release many details about the mixed martial arts middleweight bout since it hasn't been officially announced, but he said the fight is the main event and will be shown on Showtime.

Kennedy (10-2 overall) was in Boston training at the respected Sityodtong gym when reached on his cell phone Wednesday. He didn't expect his second fight to come so fast after submitting Nick Thompson with blows in a June 19 Strikeforce Challengers welterweight bout.

Mexico shuts Cancun beach, alleges sand was stolen

By MARK STEVENSON, Associated Press Writer

MEXICO CITY - Surprised tourists found their little piece of Cancun beach paradise ringed by crime-scene tape and gun-toting sailors on Thursday.

Environmental enforcement officers backed by Mexican navy personnel closed off hundreds of feet (dozens of meters) of powder-white coastline in front of a hotel accused of illegally accumulating sand on its beach.

Mexico spent $19 million to replace Cancun beaches washed away by Hurricane Wilma in 2005. But much of the sand pumped from the sea floor has since washed away, leading some property owners to build breakwaters in a bid to retain sand. The practice often merely shifts sand loss to beaches below the breakwaters.

"Today we made the decision to close this stretch of ill-gotten, illegally accumulated sand," said Patricio Patron, Mexico's attorney general for environmental protection. "This hotel was telling its tourists: 'Come here, I have sand ... the other hotels don't, because I stole it.'"

Spies like them

From Ian Fleming to John Le Carre - authors have long been fascinated by the world of espionage. But, asks the BBC's Gordon Corera, what do real life spooks make of fictional spies?

Much of what the public knows about the UK's Secret Service, or MI6, comes from the world of fiction - whether Ian Fleming's James Bond or John Le Carre's George Smiley.

The intertwining of fact and fiction dates back to the birth of the British intelligence service. In the early years of the 20th Century, the British public was whipped into a frenzy of "spy mania" driven by novelists and newspapers.

It was an era in which the UK was fearful of the rise of Germany and particularly its navy.

US intelligence gathering in Afghanistan expanded

By RICHARD LARDNER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - U.S. military authorities in Afghanistan are assembling a potent intelligence-gathering operation to help defeat the Taliban insurgency, a senior Defense Department official said Thursday.

A combination of unmanned aerial vehicles and sensor-laden aircraft with links to ground forces will give commanders an "unblinking eye" over the war-torn country, Michael Vickers, the Pentagon's top special operations official, said.

Use of high-technology assets proved essential in Iraq, he said, and are key to negating the Taliban's ability to plan and carry out attacks around the country.

"Systemically taking apart the network through intelligence-led operations is a very important feature of modern counterinsurgency," Vickers said.

What assault weapons ban?

Loopholes have weakened the law

By Patrick Howe

On paper, California has among the strictest prohibitions of assault weapon-style guns in the nation. First passed in 1989 in response to a mass murder of elementary school children involving an AK-47, the state law bans the sale of weapons with certain militaristic features and bans other weapons and parts specifically by name.

The law has been vilified by gun enthusiasts and heralded as an example to the nation by gun opponents.

But does the law still have teeth?

Following a recent sheriff's news conference during which deputies displayed an arsenal of apparently illegal weapons as they announced the arrests of two individuals on related charges, New Times reporters focused on the state of the law. What's legal? Can a person own a weapon that looks and fires like an AK-47? In other words, despite the name of the law, is there really an assault-weapons ban in effect in California?

We found that gaps in the original law, combined with successful legal challenges and the ingenuity of manufacturers, render the original law ineffectual if not obsolete.

It's not that anything goes in California. As in the rest of the nation, it's illegal to traffic in machine gunsweapons that, when their triggers are pulled and held, fire repeatedly.

Always Remember

While everyone was busy with Michael Jackson, here is the funeral you should have been thinking about.

This is an email forwarded by a friend . We are not sure exactly who the orginal author is, but we believe the story to be true, and we have verified the history and accomplishmenst of Mr. Shifty Powers, E Co. 506th PIR, 101st Airborne Division.

We're hearing a lot today about big splashy memorial services.

I want a nationwide memorial service for Darrell "Shifty" Powers.

Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry. If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them.

I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn't know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle", the symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat.

Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served, and how many jumps he made.

Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so, and was in until sometime in 1945 . . . " at which point my heart skipped.

At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . . do you know where Normandy is?" At this point my heart stopped.

I told him yes, I know exactly where Normandy was, and I know what D-Day was. At that point he said "I also made a second jump into Holland, into Arnhem." I was standing with a genuine war hero . . . . and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day.

I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France, and he said "Yes. And it's real sad because these days so few of the guys are left, and those that are, lots of them can't make the trip." My heart was in my throat and I didn't know what to say.

I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in Coach, while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have it, that I'd take his in coach.

He said "No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are still some who remember what we did and still care is enough to make an old man very happy." His eyes were filling up as he said it. And mine are brimming up now as I write this.

Shifty died on June 17 [2009 in] after fighting cancer.

There was no parade.

No big event in Staples Center.

No wall to wall back to back 24x7 news coverage.

No weeping fans on television.

And that's not right.

Let's give Shifty his own Memorial Service, online, in our own quiet way. Please forward this email to everyone you know. Especially to the veterans.

Video of SFC John Beale Return Home

With all the hype about a certain "singer, musician" passing away, this is a couple of small Georgia towns and Counties showing how they feel about a real hero.

Killed in action the week before, the body of Sergeant First Class John C. Beale was returned to Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, just south of Atlanta, on June 11, 2009. The Henry County Police Department escorted the procession to the funeral home in McDonough, Georgia .

A simple notice in local papers indicated the road route to be taken and the approximate time.

Nowadays one can be led to believe that America no longer respects honor and no longer honors sacrifice outside the military. Be it known that there are many places in this land where people still recognize the courage and impact of total self-sacrifice. Georgia remains one of those graceful, grateful places. The link below is a short travelogue of that day's remarkable and painful journey. But only watch this if you wish to have some of your faith in people restored. Turn up your speakers and listen to the words of the songs, especially the last song. Please share widely.

This is truly awesome & a must see video!

After 113 remarkable years Henry Allingham, the world's oldest man, passes into history

By JONATHAN PETRE and RICHARD CREASY

First World War veteran Henry Allingham, who became the world's oldest man last month, has died at the age of 113.

As tributes poured in, Lord's cricket ground fell silent at the start of play in the Ashes match between England and Australia as a mark of respect for Mr Allingham, who died in his sleep early yesterday morning.

He was one of the last three surviving British veterans of the First World War, the last surviving founder member of the RAF, the last man to have witnessed the Battle of Jutland and the last surviving member of the Royal Naval Air Service.

Prime Minister Gordon Brown said: 'He was a tremendous character, one of the last representatives of a generation of tremendous characters.'

The Queen said he was 'one of the generation who sacrificed so much for us all'.

Harry Patch

WWI Veteran | 1898 - 2009

Last British survivor from the World War I trenches

Harry Patch, who died on 25 July, 2009, aged 111, was the last of the Tommies who fought for Britain in the First World War.

Mr Patch served as a gunner in the trenches of the Western Front and took part in the disastrous Battle of Passchendaele before being wounded.

During the Second World War he was a fireman in Bristol.

He spoke little of his experiences in World War I until his 100th birthday, but as one of the longest-surviving veterans in the world he became a valuable historical source.

"Millions of men came to fight in this war," he said. "I find it incredible that I am the only one left."

Last UK veteran of WWI trench battles dies at 111

By ROBERT BARR, Associated Press Writer Sat Jul 25, 11:40 am ET

LONDON Harry Patch, Britain's last survivor of the trenches of World War I, was a reluctant soldier who became a powerful eyewitness to the horror of war, and a symbol of a lost generation.

Patch, who died Saturday at 111, was wounded in 1917 in the Battle of Passchendaele, which he remembered as "mud, mud and more mud mixed together with blood."

"Anyone who tells you that in the trenches they weren't scared, he's a damned liar: you were scared all the time," Patch was quoted as saying in a book, "The Last Fighting Tommy," written with historian Richard van Emden.

The Fletcher House care home in Wells, southwest England, said Patch "quietly slipped away" on Saturday morning.

Questions linger after Speicher announcement

By Andrew Tilghman - Staff writer

Family and friends of Capt. Michael Scott Speicher say questions remain about the fighter pilot's death despite the Navy's announcement that his grave was found near his plane's 1991 crash site.

"Where were the remains? How did they get there? How long did they stay there? There's still a lot to be determined," said Buddy Harris, Speicher's friend and a former Navy pilot who has since married Speicher's widow.

Speicher, the only American who remained missing in action from Operation Desert Storm, was shot down on Jan. 17, 1991, while flying a combat mission in an F/A-18 Hornet over Anbar province in west-central Iraq.

Ed Freeman

Medal of Honor Winner
Ed Freeman

You're a 19 year old kid. You're critically wounded, and dying in the jungle in the La Drang Valley , 11-14-1965, LZ X-ray,Vietnam . Your infantry unit is outnumbered 8 - 1, and the enemy fire is so intense, from 100 or 200 yards away, that your own Infantry Commander has ordered the Medi-Vac helicopters to stop coming in.

You're lying there, listening to the enemy machine guns, and you know you're not getting out. Your family is 1/2 way around the world, 12,000 miles away, and you'll never see them again. As the world starts to fade in and out, you know this is the day.

Then, over the machine gun noise, you faintly hear that sound of a helicopter, and you look up to see an un-armed Huey, but it doesn't seem real, because no Medi-Vac markings are on it.

Ed Freeman is coming for you. He's not Medi-Vac, so it's not his job, but he's flying his Huey down into the machine gun fire, after the Medi-Vacs were ordered not to come. He's coming anyway. And he drops it in, and sits there in the machine gun fire, as they load 2 or 3 of you on board.

Then he flies you up and out through the gunfire, to the Doctors and Nurses. And, he kept coming back 13 more times. And took about 30 of you and your buddies out, who would never have gotten out.

Medal of Honor Recipient, Ed Freeman, died last Wednesday at the age of 80, in Boise, Idaho . May God rest his soul.

Eskimo Guards on Alert Off Siberia

By BERNARD E. TRAINOR, Special to the New York Times

Tensions between East and West may have been reduced in the wake of successful negotiations to reduce nuclear arms in Europe. But for the Eskimo scouts of Alaska's National Guard the cold war persists with a frigidity to match an Alaskan winter.

The Eskimos are suspicious of their Soviet neighbors in nearby Siberia and say they are the first line of defense against the Russians.

"You must realize the Russians are only a few short miles from our homes," said Sgt. 1st Class Mike Apatiki of the First Scout Battalion. "We can see them across the Bering Strait and watch their planes fly overhead."

Eskimo guardsmen stationed in Nome and at the remote and windswept villages of Gambell and Savoonga on St. Lawrence Island, 37 miles from the Soviet Union, show visitors buoys and cylindrical casings with Russian lettering, found upon their shores. They also talk of seeing strangers on the island who run away when approached. Distrust of the Russians

All this, duly reported to American military officials by the Eskimos, contributes to their distrust of their Russian neighbors.
