Dave,

Just got my rig in yesterday and it is the shit. I had it wrapped as a gift from Santa on Christmas. I was hoping to break it in at Balikitan 2007 in the Phillpines but it has been canceled for everybody because they have that Marine in custody. I got approval from my higher to wear it so all is good.

Merry Christmas
Rick

DECEPTION

Why Wars Are Fought

and How We, As a Nation,

Fall Victim to Deception

Despite all the smoke and mirrors there are only two reasons wars are fought:

  1. To oppress-i.e., to force your will or ideology upon others and to control them. (The oppressors are the bad guys.)
  2. To liberate-as in to obtain freedom and individualism. The opposite of oppression. (The liberators are the good guys.)

I will simplify: war is a battle of wills.

What is not simple are the things that influence war.

Everyone wants to come up with clever theories on what caused our current war or any war and cowards are always the first to turn on the "home team." They may state something like" "the president started it-he had explosives placed in the Twin Towers and the CIA flew the planes into them, etc." Or, possibly, "It was fought for oil."

Oil falls into my point which is about war being deception--it cannot be denied that many regimes hostile to the United States get their power through oil: Iran, Venezuela, Russia...I understand oil can be a powerful weapon. Our current economy is driven by oil. But it is only an influence or circumstance of war-just as it was in WWII. In every war there are circumstances that influence the decision making. But these should never be confused with why we fight wars.

Strategic and Tactical

In the military wars are fought on two levels: strategic and tactical.

Strategic are things that impact a country's war-making ability. Tactical is the implementation of decisive actions on the battlefield.

The cold war was won on a strategic level, where oddly enough, oil was one of the weapons used to win that war.

In a clever plan conceived by President Reagan, he stepped up the arms race with the former Soviet Union, while at the same time getting Saudi Arabia to up their oil production driving oil prices down. This bankrupted the Soviet Union. The Iron Curtain fell and many countries were freed. This was fought and won on a strategic level. Oil played a huge influence as you can see. But it was not why we did it.

Sun Tzu's The Art of War

"All warfare is based on deception."
-trans., Sun Tzu, The Art of War, ca 450 B.C.

Deception

Now I will move on to the biggest influence in war: Deception.

All wars are based and fought on deception-and the deception process always starts long before the first shot is fired.

Unfortunately most choose to ignore the signs and/or early warnings as we are deceived by our enemies. As a matter of fact, the United States always ignores the signs until we are forced out on to the battlefield. WWII was a good example of this. Preparation for the Nazi movement and the rise of Hitler started right after WWI. But no one wanted to deal with it until it was too late. Similarly this war on terror started in 1979, after the Shah of Iran was deposed by President Carter, who then embraced the Ayatollah Khomeini-an evil tyrant and enemy of western culture-his embracing of this man was a great display of weakness. Consequently our embassy was taken over and our personnel held hostage for well over a year. President Carter was a seemingly willing victim of deception from the media and his enemies. Most who watched this unfold would have considered it an act of war to take these hostages and then to respond so weakly in the intervening years to other acts of aggression. These weaknesses, i.e., not coming to grips with reality-put us on the path of where we are today... This was the beginning of the Islamic Revolution where Terrorism is now king.

"A great part of the information obtained in war is contradictory, a still greater part is false, and by far the greatest part is of a doubtful character."
- Clausewitz On War Chapter VI Information in War"

Step back for a moment.

Let us look closely at our citizens-I believe a very large part of our countrymen do not understand what is happening right now in this existing war-and by that I mean they are not heeding the wake-up call of 9-11.

Not like we did as a nation after the raid on Pearl Harbor in 1941. There are many reasons for why we are not today heeding the wake up call issued on 9-11. Too many to list. So I will focus on the one most responsible: DECEPTION.

Deception is the most powerful influence in the world. We will define deception as to intentionally distort the truth in order to mislead others.

Here is the mechanics of deception:

  1. Deception will present a true premise or point and connect a false conclusion from it, in order to mislead people.
  2. Deception will omit a critical piece of information, to allow an event or doctrine to take on a different meaning.
  3. Deception will offer a promise in return for something up front with only false guarantees. (This one is very powerful it plays off of greed and selfishness.)
  4. Deception will make false accusations to discredit the truth or people.
  5. Deception will make false claims in order to gain peoples' support.

Here is a recent example that reflects the mechanics of deception from a group of Imans who very much understand the gravity of the war we are in:

(Click for an account of this event if you are not familiar with it.)

Synopsis:

This past December, a group of Muslim Imans ( Islamic religious leaders) traveled on a U.S. domestic airline flight and committed overtly suspicious acts which caused panic amongst the other passengers; and caused security and airline personnel to have them detained after the flight. Planned outcry from the Muslim community (dutifully diluted and reported by the media at large) left the average U.S. citizen (who might be easily deceived) to believe these Imams were innocently picked on and unjustly treated...

This is precisely what they and their blind and turncoat supporters want you to believe. It causes the fair-minded war-weary individual to not see the truth of the matter-which is that their actions were meant to deceive us so they can get a legal policy implemented to weaken security at our public places and transportation corridors thus opening the way for future terrorist acts.

This would fall under the principle of without restraint there is lawlessness. Through this premeditated deception they hoped to lift restraint against people that fit the terrorist profile thus allowing them the freedom to carry out and support any terrorist acts.

And that is how deception works.

Arrogance and Deception

"War is deception."
-Prophet Mohammed / Tabari VIII:23

In the Army our favorite drill was to hurry up and wait. And wait we did.

Usually on some airstrip, who knows where, suited up to jump into who knows where. With gnats and mosquitoes biting you, getting into your eyes, etc. Well most of us would find things to pass the time. One of those things was a card game. The game of "Hearts." The winner is the player with the least amount of points. The way to achieve that was by getting as few hearts as possible. But there was also "shooting the moon" which would give all your opponents max points and make you the winner. The reason I picked this game is because it involves strategy and deception. In order to "shoot the moon" one must deceive his opponents into thinking what he is not-until he reaches that critical point in the game when no one can stop him.

The game of Hearts parallels how deception takes a nation. At some point most or everyone will realize that we are losing the war on Terror, but once you hit that point-there is no way to stop the fall-short of God's grace.

When there is an absence of truth and facts it creates a vacuum that is an ideal opportunity for the use of deception. (The media and enemies of the current administration are spinning and deceiving the war on terror to the detriment of the world.)

Deception draws its power from arrogance, and human weakness. Arrogance is the biggest weakness of the human race and probably the least understood. Most people would define arrogance as acting like a snob. If you look in the dictionary you may find a definition something like this: the act of, or habit of making undue claims in an overbearing manner; that species of pride which consists in exorbitant claims of rank, dignity, estimation, or power, or which exalts the worth or importance of the person to an undue degree; proud contempt of others; lordliness; haughtiness; self assumption, presumption.

For the purpose of deception I would like to define arrogance like this: arrogance simply put is illusion (unreality) and when perpetuated arrogance becomes insanity (think Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Hussein, Ahmadinejad).

The preventative for arrogance is truth and humility. Which I like to think of as the opposite of arrogance. As arrogance blinds one from truth or reality, humility enables one to see the truth. I define humility as the ability to accept the truth or reality regardless of the consequences. And that's where the trick begins by taking the focus off of yourself.

At this point, I would like to break down deception into two categories.

Self-deception and overt deception.

Although both come from different sources they both work the same way. Self-deception is where we deceive ourselves and overt deception is those outside forces trying to trick you into believing their false reality.

We have all known or seen people who fall prey to those weaknesses that lead to deception. Sometimes people do not want to or refuse to accept reality. So they replace truth with a false reality. And over-time they actually believe this false reality, absorbing themselves in it.

There are many examples of arrogance at work causing people to lose touch with reality. But I think I will pick on the smart and successful people to demonstrate self-deception. Sometimes smart or successful people feel like they have to know everything because that's what they think everyone expects. So they pretend to know everything and render opinions on things they know nothing about. People around them buy into this. And in a way worship them because they are smart or successful. And in arrogance the smart person actually starts believing his own rationales or opinions, thus self-deception sets in. I could go on and on with examples, but if you use your imagination you will see how it applies to many things in our lives, and the choices we make. How many times have you asked yourself after a bad decision. What was I thinking?

Overt deception works the same way through arrogance you accept false facts and realities because you want things to be that way. Or it is about someone or thing you do not like. Or it could be plain apathy or laziness:

"It's not bothering me, so I don't care."

"I don't want to hear about it!"

This above examples fit in exactly to what most of our nation thinks about the current War on Terror. Since they are constantly bombarded from every direction from politicians, the news media, and then the professors feeding false information to push all their own agendas-arrogance replaces reality. They all play off the same weaknesses.

I will define some of the weaknesses, and I am sure you will recognize them.

  1. Rationalization - is self justification not taking responsibility while blaming others for ones own failures and sufferings
  2. Anger - attacks a problem with temper and tantrums, which manifests total irresponsibility. Anger diverts attention to self and attempts to cower and control people with threats of violence. Power lust and approbation lust are often expressed through anger. Which arises from feelings of inferiority that are temporarily assuaged by revenge or by injuring those who challenge ones' inflated opinion of self.
  3. Defense mechanisms - attempt to insulate the mind from overpowering pressures. But such sociopath functions as drug abuse and alcohol abuse merely compound the original problem divorcing one from reality.
  4. Denial - ignores the problem in the blind hope that it will go away and of course it will not.
  5. Sublimation - reacts to frustration by finding a new outlet for pent-up emotions. When boredom goes on a frantic search for happiness pursuing social life, sex, money, power or adventure, but happiness comes from a state of mind stemming from self discipline, positive thinking, hope, gratefulness, contentedness and self control.

All these weaknesses are driven by arrogance, which opens the door for deception to replace reality.

The reason I have pointed all this out is to give some insight into how people, and we as a nation fall prey to deception.

How To Fight Back Against Deception

Now I will talk about the enemy of deception: Principles and Truths. The definition of principle is a general or fundamental law or doctrine, a rule or code of conduct based on truths; also devotion to such a code. It is important to operate off of principles that always hold true. Because this is how you beat deception.

Process for defeating deception:

  1. Stick with the facts.
  2. Consider the source of the information.
  3. Weigh the information against principle or known truths.
  4. Decide how this information impacts circumstances or the situation.
  5. Remain objective and consider the information from all points of view to determine possible deception to see who benefits from it.

I always say go with what you know to be true. What I mean by that is do not let people dissuade you by throwing out false facts. There is always a certain amount of things one knows to be true regardless of what people want you to think. And that's where you start by applying principles. Principles always hold true. What we need to do is to apply the right ones to the circumstances. I am not saying it is simple. But it is the best shot you have at keeping oriented properly. Deception is clever and adaptive in our world. We must learn to guard against it.

We live in what people say is the information age. We are constantly bombarded by information, more than we can handle. We are faced with the problem of what to believe and not. I say consider the source of the information. People with different ideologies, with flawed points of view, with different motives and agendas. We all know what happens when you start a rumor after it has been passed on from person to person. How the story grows and changes and combines that with the different agendas of different people. It makes it difficult to keep from being brainwashed today.

So stick with fact, apply principles and as they say in baseball keep your eye on the ball. We need to win this war.

What we always need to remember is the two reasons wars are fought for liberation or oppression. And which side do you want to win.

In the end you will either be oppressed and loose freedom or you will be liberated and win your freedom back. I say win your freedom back because in time of war we must give up certain freedoms, with the knowledge that when we win we get them back. Getting our freedom back is important .I would like to talk about it a bit, because that is the prize. And I haven't heard any of our leaders talk about that. The reason is simple to me. We as a people, the citizens of the United States have lost the will to win and have gone into this war with a losing attitude. It seems we forgot how to win long ago in the Korean War when our president became afraid of the enemy and ordered a halt to Gen McArthur's offense and sit to this day in the defense. The news media and our politicians have pumped out propaganda giving aid and comfort to our enemies and confusing the citizens of this country. So what I am hoping you will get out of this are the two reasons for fighting wars for liberation or oppression, and understand the things that influence wars especially deception then, focus on what happens if the enemy wins. And finally, use these absolutes to evaluate the situation we find ourselves in as a nation.

Here are some Military principles to help you with your thought process to evaluate our current situation.
  1. When two groups go to war each is trying to impose their will on the other. The side that is most committed will usually win especially when one side is divided.
  2. Strategy should be aimed at defining the enemy's most single source of power and then we form our strategy to defeat it. This is often referred to as finding the center of gravity and that is how you defeat the enemy.

Remember, buy into the influence and deception and you will find it complicated and confusing. Or keep it simple and focus on what lies at the end of the path... and all becomes clear what we have to do. Ask yourself, do you want to be oppressed or liberated?

Getting back to our topic of why we fight wars, and why I chose it is because of all the deception surrounding our current set of circumstances. There has been much debate on the way we are currently fighting the war. Currently we are being brainwashed by cowards who would for the most part never fight, retreat during the fight or recommend if you were to feel a need to fight - that you choose another course... that we cannot win this war. The reason is simple; they are afraid to fight and sacrifice. They prefer to withdraw into a shell like a turtle.

We can win this War by following in the footsteps of our nation's forefathers.

An example of this would be trying to take and defeat an ant hill. I am sure most of us when we were kids tried. Day after day we tried different strategies. First we flooded them with the garden hose and we thought that will fix them. Well they came back so we covered them with dirt trying to suffocate them .They came back so we doused them with gas and burned them out. They came back so we sprayed them with Raid. Every day they came back. This is known as fighting a war of attrition. This is not a good strategy. So in order to defeat the ants one must find their center of gravity, and that is the queen ant. If you can destroy the queen the ant hill will fall. So now we devise a strategy to take out the queen. So we go to the store and get some ant poison that the other ants will carry back to their colony and kill the queen. In a short amount of time the ant hill will disappear.

Question: What do you think is the center of gravity in our current War on Terror?

Another important principle of war that I was taught in the Army is one that always holds true and should help you understand how to win this war:

I will leave you with this quote from the author of De Re Militari-a famous Roman military bible used by the great captains of history:

It is the nature of war that what is beneficial to you is detrimental to the enemy and what is of service to him hurts you. It is therefore a maxim never to do or to omit doing anything as a consequence of his actions but to consult invariably your own interests only.

- Flavius Vegetius Renatus
  1. In the defense you cannot win-all you can do is avoid defeat.
  2. The only way you can win a war is with offensive actions.

Now if you take these two principles you will find the only way we can win this war and have victory is on the offense.

Some have called this WWIII and I would say it pretty much is. But we haven't come to grips with that. If you apply the two principles I just stated it looks like we have confined a large part of the war to Afghanistan and Iraq which seems to be our biggest focus. But yet we have enemies recruiting and training fighters, supplying them and sending them to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan. And we have taken up a defensive posture ensuring we can never win the war. I say this because even if Iraq was stabilized, the enemy is still out there growing more powerful by the day and aggressively pursuing a nuclear program. I ask you is this a good military strategy? Wouldn't it be better to suck it up and go back on the offensive destroy the enemy and restore freedom to the citizens of our country. As opposed to playing a defensive role that can at best only avoid defeat and never restore freedom?

A New Christmas Poem

Twas The Night Before Christmas,
He Lived All Alone,
In A One Bedroom House Made Of
Plaster And Stone.

I Had Come Down The Chimney
With Presents To Give,
And To See Just Who
In This Home Did Live.

I Looked All About,
A Strange Sight I Did See,
No Tinsel, No Presents,
Not Even A Tree.

No Stocking By Mantle,
Just Boots Filled With Sand,
On The Wall Hung Pictures
Of Far Distant Lands.

With Medals And Badges,
Awards Of All Kinds,
A Sober Thought
Came Through My Mind.

For This House Was Different,
It Was Dark And Dreary,
I Found The Home Of A Soldier,
Once I Could See Clearly.

The Soldier Lay Sleeping,
Silent, Alone,
Curled Up On The Floor
In This One Bedroom Home.

The Face Was So Gentle,
The Room In Such Disorder,
Not How I Pictured
A United States Soldier.

Was This The Hero
Of Whom I'd Just Read?
Curled Up On A Poncho,
The Floor For A Bed?

I Realized The Families
That I Saw This Night,
Owed Their Lives To These Soldiers
Who Were Willing To Fight.

Soon Round The World,
The Children Would Play,
And Grownups Would Celebrate
A Bright Christmas Day.

They All Enjoyed Freedom
Each Month Of The Year,
Because Of The Soldiers,
Like The One Lying Here.

I Couldn't Help Wonder
How Many Lay Alone,
On A Cold Christmas Eve
In A Land Far From Home.

The Very Thought
Brought A Tear To My Eye,
I Dropped To My Knees
And Started To Cry.

The Soldier Awakened
And I Heard A Rough Voice,
"Santa Don't Cry,
This Life Is My Choice";

I Fight For Freedom,
I Don't Ask For More,
My Life Is My God,
My Country, My Corps."

The Soldier Rolled Over
And Drifted To Sleep,
I Couldn't Control It,
I Continued To Weep.

I Kept Watch For Hours,
So Silent And Still
And We Both Shivered
From The Cold Night's Chill.
I Didn't Want To Leave
On That Cold, Dark, Night,
This Guardian Of Honor
So Willing To Fight.

Then The Soldier Rolled Over,
With A Voice Soft And Pure,
Whispered, "Carry On Santa,
It's Christmas Day, All Is Secure."

One Look At My Watch,
And I Knew He Was Right.
"Merry Christmas My Friend,
And To All A Good Night."

Saved in Liberia

On or about 3 March 1990 Liberia was in a state of civil war. Field Marshal Prince Johnson, the outlaw Charles Taylor, and the self proclaimed President Samuel Doe were trying to converge on Monrovia to usurp their own power base. The DAO in Monrovia Colonel David Staley) and we had to at that time to figure out who was creating chaos, terrorism and insurrection in the city, including many FSN's who worked at the American Embassy. That was one of my my jobs. Without the help of the boys at the "Ranch", our sisters across the river in Langley, and the DAO, we would have had a clusterfuck but we created an RST that worked despite the chaos and constant rounds of gun fire heard around the city. This RST was the groundwork for the susequent evacuations to the USS Saipan and other vessels.

One time, I was stopped by some local Doe armed guerilla supporters who were kids(17 years old) and they asked for my Id. I was in an embassy vehicle with dip plates and they still thought we were the enemy, whatever that was. After negotiating with them them for a while, they pulled us out put AK-47's to our heads, and I had to bargain for my life. It seemed ironic that we were the ones trying to help the Liberians yet we were the ones facing this situation. They fired several rounds near us and around us to get infromation. I somehow(to this day do not know how) got these kids to back off and let us pass. But I got out of it by reverting to my training believing in myself and most importantly tryin to protect the local driver, Joseph Korbiah, who I knew very well and had a family. I was nothing but a young single guy with no attachments. What got to me was the fact that I may have had to take out kids who probably did not have ammo in their old rifles.

So all you boys over there now remember you are never alone when it come to these types of things, particularly urban warfare which is the most difficult for many reasons. You have friends all over the world who wish you come home soon. God Bless you and the United States of America. MACDOG out

Voice of the Soldier
Mid East Peace Talk Texas Style

A very gentle Southern lady was driving across the Savannah River Bridge in Georgia one day.

As she neared the top of the bridge, she noticed a young man fixing (ready) to jump.

She stopped her car, rolled down the window and said, "Please don't jump, think of your dear mother and father."

He replied, "Mom and Dad are both dead; I'm going to jump."

She said, "Well, think of your wife and children."

He replied, "I'm not married and I don't have any kids."

She said, "Well, think of Robert E. Lee."

He replied, "Who's Robert E. Lee?"

She replied, "Well bless your heart, just go ahead and jump, you dumb ass Yankee."

The Passing Of A Generation

The Passing Of A Generation

I am a doctor specializing in the Emergency Departments of the only two military Level One-Trauma Centers, both in San Antonio, TX and they care for civilian Emergencies as well as military personnel.

With our large military retiree population, the patients we receive are often nursing home patients. Even with my enlisted service and minimal combat experience in Panama, I have caught myself groaning when the ambulance brought in yet another sick, elderly person from one of the local retirement centers that cater to military retirees. I had not stopped to think of what citizens of this age group represented.

I saw "Saving Private Ryan." I was touched deeply. Not so much by the carnage, but by the sacrifices of so many. I was touched most by the scene of the elderly survivor at the graveside, asking his wife if he'd been a good man. I realized that I had seen these same men and women coming through my Emergency Dept. and had not realized what magnificent sacrifices they had made. The things they did for me and everyone else that has lived on this planet since the end of that conflict are priceless.

Lesson 1:
A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings. The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.

When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor. Before she says a word, Bob says, "I'll give you $800 to drop that towel." After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob.

After a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.

The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs. When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, "Who was that?"

"It was Bob the next door neighbor," she replies.

"Great!" the husband says, "did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?"

Moral of the story: If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure

Lesson 2:
A priest offered a Nun a lift. She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg. The priest nearly had an accident. After controlling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.

The nun said, "Father, remember Psalm 129?" The priest removed his hand.

But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again. The nun once again said, "Father, remember Psalm 129?"

The priest apologized "Sorry sister but the flesh is weak." Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.

On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, "Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory."

Moral of the story: If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity

Lesson 3:
A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, "I'll give each of you just one wish."

"Me first! Me first!" says the admin clerk. "I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world."

Puff! She's gone.

"Me next! Me next!" says the sales rep. "I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life."

Puff! He's gone.

"OK, you're up," the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, "I want those two back in the office after lunch."

Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say

Lesson 4:
An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing. A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing?"

The eagle answered: "Sure, why not."

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story: To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5:
A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy."

"Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients."

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story: BullShit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Lesson 6:
A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field. While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was. The dung was actually thawing him out! He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.

A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Moral of the story: (1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend
(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

Gordon James Klingenschmitt Chaplain Court-Martialed for Praying "In Jesus' Name"

Dear Concerned Friend,

As we joyfully embrace this Season of our Savior's birth, the gavel's ominous rap still echoes in my ears. Even now it's hard for me to fully grasp that this could be happening to me in this Christian nation of ours. But it's an inescapable fact: I've been found guilty of the "crime" of praying in Jesus' name while in uniform.

But throughout this blessed Christmastide, I'm still striving to faithfully serve as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy - appealing a court-martial verdict that will cost me and my family everything. You see, the Navy just ordered me to separate from the service by 31 January 2007. They are hoping to permanently end my career after 15.5 years of award-winning evaluations. I'm losing my pension, and my family is now being evicted from military housing, without health care benefits, on the street in the cold.

I am writing to warn you: The day has dawned in America when it is criminally punishable to pray in Jesus' name, to quote Scripture passages in a military chapel, to voice evangelical messages about Jesus. So I pray you'll read my story, because your help is needed to right this wrong. Something much bigger than my personal situation is at risk. Precariously hanging in the balance is our Constitution's guarantee of freedom of religion. And I am prepared to defend that vital principle all the way to the Supreme Court. But justice takes time. And money.

LET ME START FROM THE BEGINNING

I believe God called me to serve as a chaplain. To step up to that role and as a Lieutenant in the Navy, I stepped down from the rank of Major in the U.S. Air Force back in 2002. I volunteered for that demotion in rank, and its significant pay cut, to answer God's ministry call. The desire to do God's will is still the driving purpose in my life. My heart's desire was and is to help our men and women in uniform, to bring them the Lord's comfort and mercy.

Navy Chaplains have prayed Christian prayers in public since 1775, and since 1860 federal law and regulation protected us: "An officer in the chaplain corps may conduct public worship according to the manner and forms of the church of which he is a member." But the Navy recently has changed. What seemed an innocent "memo of suggestion" in 1998 by the former Chief of Navy Chaplains - that chaplains who pray in Jesus' name "ought not participate" and either be censored or be excluded from public ceremonies - was strengthened into a repressive policy on February 21st, 2006.

As the Navy goes, so go all the other military branches. Atheists and liberals will make sure of that. That same month, the U.S. Air Force revised its "guidelines for religious expression," reported in Jewish Week newspaper under the headline "Jesus barred from Air Force invocations." If nobody had challenged this policy, the ACLU and Americans United for Separation of Church and State would undoubtedly use this unholy precedent to subvert our God-given right to free exercise OF religion, into their coerced freedom FROM ANY religious expression - not just in the Navy but all over America.

NAME ABOVE ALL NAMES NOW DEEMED "OFFENSIVE"

Liberals and atheists especially can't stand to hear the name of Jesus, because deep inside they know "there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved." Remember: the ungodly want our children banned from saying "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance in our public schools. Why? Because the mention of God might "offend." Yet the ungodly care not how their anti-religious coercion hurts Christians. Their same pretext of being easily "offended" is abused in attempts to banish from our common life Ten Commandments plaques, crosses, and manger scenes across America.

Jesus taught us to forgive, to turn the other cheek. He also expects us to shine the light of His truth and dispel the darkness, so all will see that Christ is the way to God's salvation. That's why I continued to pray in Jesus' name, even outside the chapel, even in public. And together we challenged the Navy's illegal prayer policy. Over 300,000 people petitioned the President to intervene. Many more called Congress, and 75 Congressmen and 35 pro-family groups called for an executive order, which never happened. Then the House of Representatives passed a bill to strengthen the 1860 law which already allowed chaplains to pray according to their faith. That bill was blocked by liberals in the Senate.

Liberal politicians wanted to impose "theological sensitivity requirements" on the content of all chaplain prayers and sermons. If passed by this new House and Senate, they could make matters far worse, requiring the Pentagon to punish "insensitive" prayers. Five times the White House spokesman answered media questions about me. Five times he gave the same answer: "The President cares about chaplains, but he also wants the Pentagon to make their own policies on how they should pray." Emboldened by Presidential inaction, the Navy passed the worst prayer policy in 231 years - SECNAVINST 1730.7C, which banned praying "in Jesus' name" anywhere outside of Sunday chapel.

That Navy policy holds that uniform-wearing chaplains violate the law by worshipping in public. We can only pray in Jesus' name and quote Bible passages in chapel on Sundays - the only time and place the Navy now protects "public worship." The Navy's top JAG investigator enforced that policy, ruling that I was "properly punished" for quoting the Bible in the chapel on a Saturday, during an optionally attended "Christian Memorial Service" to honor the faith of a deceased Sailor, a member of my flock. "That wasn't public worship," they told the newspapers.

The Navy defended my commander who punished me for quoting "offensive" Bible verses like John 3:36 in chapel, and for preaching that "Jesus is the way to heaven" in my sermon, ruling: "Lt Klingenschmitt was free to choose to deliver a message at the memorial service that, while being true to his own beliefs, could also have commanded the assent of the vast majority of his audience. Nevertheless, Lieutenant Klingenschmitt chose to deliver a message he knew to be, by his own description, 'exclusive.'" - Navy JAG investigator

So they defended the skipper and punished the chaplain, taking a black-tip marker to my Bible, and banning John 3:36:"Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him." Is this Bible verse too "exclusive" for Navy chapels? Are our Christian Sailors no longer entitled to a Christian burial? Should we stand and let the Navy enforce their new policy?

NAVY SAYS PUBLIC WORSHIP NOT WORSHIP IN PUBLIC

I had enough. On March 30, I wore my uniform to a public Christian event outside the White House that included prayers and Bible readings. Former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore delivered a hard-hitting homily to highlight the program. My ONLY "speech" in uniform that day was reading Christian prayers and scriptures. Yet the Navy wrongly contends my prayers were "not public worship." They insist worship must be restricted to the Sunday chapel. Prayer, however, is still worship in my book, whether in chapel on Sunday or outside the White House on Thursday. I was charged at court-martial with violating Article 92 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, even though I got written permission to wear my uniform at any worship service or any religious observance. The court-martial judge ignored Navy Uniform Regulations which state: "Chaplains have the option of wearing their uniform when conducting worship services and during the performance of rites and rituals distinct to their faith groups." During the court-martial I conducted my defense "by the Book" - the Bible - and rested my case without calling any witnesses, following Isaiah 53:7, which states Jesus "was oppressed and afflicted yet he did not open his mouth." It was obvious to me: worshipping in public is the same as public worship. But not to the judge. On Sept. 13, I was gaveled guilty of disobeying a "lawful" order.

FLOOD OF SUPPORT SPURS CONGRESSIONAL ACTION

My story ran in 600 newspapers that week. One poll asked: Should military chaplains be allowed to lead prayers in Jesus' name during public events that are not religious services?" And 85 percent of respondents agreed with me, and said "yes." So many good citizens were angry at the Navy, they called Sen. John Warner (R-VA) who surrendered to public opinion in a speech on the Senate floor, just one week after my court-martial:

I am being besieged by telephone, by bloggers, by everything else… I think that we should put in report language in our bill two things: First, that the Secretary of Defense will stay-that means hold in abeyance-enforcement of these newly promulgated regulations until such time as the Congress has had an opportunity to hold its hearings…I am basically assured by the Department of Defense that they will Comply." - Sen. Warner, 19 Sep 06

Despite a solemn promise by the Secretary of Defense to "not enforce" that Navy prayer policy, they're still enforcing it against me today! Navy lawyers are still defending that illegal policy in court, as the legal basis to kick me out. God spoke to me three times during my court-martial, that if I'd lay down my life, he would resurrect me. Responding to your petitions, the House & Senate attached a conference report to the 2007 Defense Authorization Act stating:

"The conferees direct that the Secretary of the Air Force rescind the policy and revised interim guidelines concerning the exercise of religion…The conferees further direct the Secretary of the Navy rescind Secretary of the Navy Instruction 1730.7C dated February 21, 2006, titled "Religious Ministry within the Department of the Navy." - Congress Conference Report

STILL THE VERDICT MUST BE OVERTURNED

This is a move in the right direction, as long as it lasts. The battle isn't over, however, and it won't be until the unholy, precedent-setting verdict against me is overturned. You see, despite Congressional action, chaplains still aren't free to pray publicly in Jesus' name! The Navy's previous policy that "suggests" we not pray in Jesus' name still allows commanding officers to determine what their chaplains may and may not do.

As it now stands, any chaplain who dares to do what's right runs the risk of being disciplined by a commanding officer. And the skipper is always right, backed up by the "brass." So you see why my appeal must be overturned, either in Navy or federal courts, in order to set this matter straight. Congressional action, you see, doesn't allow my case to be "grandfathered," so my career apparently is over. The freedom purchased for others has cost me everything.

People ask, "Chaplain, would you do it over again?" Without hesitation I answer, "Yes." It was worth it to sacrifice my career for Jesus, for our Sailors, and for religious liberty, because now other chaplains will have the liberty I was denied. So I am being drummed out of the Navy, just like 68 other chaplains still suing the Navy for religious harassment, all of them evangelicals, most of them no longer in uniform, passed over for promotion because they preached Jesus Christ, and prayed in Jesus' name, without compromise.

LITTLE REPRIMAND MEANS BIG CONSEQUENCES

In my case, the jury recommended only a letter of reprimand and suspended monthly fine of $250. The misdemeanor Navy court, first offense, had NO legal authority to kick me out of the Navy. But top officials immediately moved to separate me from the Navy - using strange administrative proceedings never before attempted on any chaplain - and to take away my pension. This is the latest of many reprisals against me for speaking to the Congress and the press. A March 22 email from Vice Adm. John C. Harvey Jr., the Chief of Naval Personnel, to Adm. Michael G. Mullen, the Chief of Naval Operations, proves they planned to kick me out before I wore my uniform to pray at the White House.

Eight days before the March 30th event for which I was later court-martialed, Vice Adm. Harvey recommended my "involuntarily release" from the Navy "due to lack of career potential." He noted in his email: "This officer is the individual who conducted a hunger strike in front of the White House several months ago and has engaged in other actions concerning (Defense Department) and Navy Religious Ministry policies."

Yes, I staged an 18-day hunger strike last Christmas, skipping Christmas dinner, drinking only water, to pray and fast for our President, losing 14 pounds. The devil hated that, but God loves the power of prayer and fasting. Yes, I've gone on record as saying my superiors are breaking their oath to support and defend the Constitution, by actively pressuring chaplains to water down their prayers into generic, non-sectarian forms, against centuries of Navy tradition. But punishing a whistle-blower for his complaints is against the law. These Admirals think because I stand up for what's right and am true to my God, I'm not worthy of promotion. I'm not worthy to wear the uniform. Thus I must go. But I will not go quietly. I'll continue to fight for Jesus. And I need your help.

We must stop this godless plot to silence truth and banish Jesus from the public square. We cannot let them melt down the Christian faith into a meaningless one-size-fits-all sham, nothing more than sounding brass or tinkling cymbal. There is no more fundamental American principle than the inalienable right to freely worship our Creator, and I hope all Christians will pray publicly in Jesus' name - without fear! For any government official to mandate "non-sectarian" prayers is for him to force his government religion upon me - to censor, exclude and punish me for my obedience to Christ.

Stand with the Lord Jesus and sign our new petition that calls upon the Secretary of Defense to keep his promise, and "not enforce" that illegal (rescinded) prayer policy against chaplains like me who pray "in Jesus' name."

Please Sign My Petition to the Secretary of Defense Robert Gates

I am not alone in resisting this outrageous persecution - God, of course, is with me. I have a fine legal defense team. And the Declaration Foundation, a God-honoring organization, championed by Alan Keyes, boldly stands for Christ Jesus with me. But I'm still paying the legal bills from my court-martial, not to mention the expensive upcoming appeals, and just forget about my pension, housing, utilities, medical and food. The Navy won't pay my salary anymore. My family and I are in God's hands.

Merry Christmas, In Jesus' name.

On Sunday, December 7th, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack against the U.S. Forces stationed at Pearl Harbor , Hawaii . By planning his attack on a Sunday, the Japanese commander Admiral Nagumo, hoped to catch the entire fleet in port. As luck would have it, the Aircraft Carriers and one of the Battleships were not in port. (The USS Enterprise was returning from Wake Island , where it had just delivered some aircraft. The USS Lexingtonwas ferrying aircraft to Midway, and the USS Saratoga and USS Colorado were undergoing repairs in the United States ..)

In spite of the latest intelligence reports about the missing a aircraft carriers (his most important targets), Admiral Nagumo decid! ed to continue the attack with his force of six carriers and 423 aircraft. At a range of 230 miles north of Oahu , he launched the first wave of a two-wave attack. Beginning at 0600 hours his first wave consisted of 183 fighters and torpedo bombers which struck at the fleet in Pearl Harbor and the airfields in Hickam, Kaneoheand Ewa. The second strike, launched at 0715 hours, consisted of 167 aircraft, which again struck at the same targets.

At 0753 hours the first wave consisting of 40 Nakajima B5N2 "Kate" torpedo bombers, 51 Aichi D3A1 "Val" dive bombers, 50 high altitude bombers and 43 Zeros struck airfields and Pearl Harbor Within the next hour, the second wave arrived and continued the attack.

Word of Truth

By Rev G.J. Rako

Deadly Deception

Satan has a plan, policy and system of deceiving the world ("Then the great dragon, the ancient serpent, who is called the devil and Satan, who keeps on deceiving the entire world"...Rev 12:9, "and he will go out to deceive the nations in the four corners of the earth." Rev 20:3, 20:8 ). He is the ruler of this world (Lk 4:5-7; Jn 12:31, 14:30, 16:11; 2 Cor 4:4) and is opposed to God. Therefore, his plan is to deceive humanity with regard to the eternal truth of the living and written Word of God. His plan and policy can be entitled the "lie" for "he is a liar and the father of lies and there is no truth in him" (John 8:44). The Bible is the "truth"; Satan's system is the "lie". As the Word of Truth has many facets so, each must be countered by the lie.

Two aspects of this great lie are Satan's deceptions and counterfeits regarding first, salvation and then the Christian way of life.

  1. The Bible states that there is one way to heaven and a relationship with the eternal God; faith alone in Christ alone. "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved" (Acts 4:12). Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but, by me" (John 14:6). Now, how many other names can you think of, all of which characterize the lie. Satan in his genius has developed a system to counterfeit God's plan of salvation. We call this system religion. Religion is man by man's own efforts attempting to gain the favor of God. It is a system of works and merit on man's part. God's plan of salvation is grace. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of yourselves, it is a gift from God, not of works, so that no man can boast" (Eph 2:8-9).
  2. Once we become believers in Jesus Christ, our purpose is to grow to spiritual maturity and execute the unique spiritual life of the church age. We are commanded to renew our thinking, (Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. II Cor 4:16; and that you be renewed in the spirit of your thinking, Eph 4:23, and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him. Col 3:10) by growing in grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ (II Peter 3:18), that is to replace the doctrine of demons ("But the Spirit explicitly communicates that in latter periods of time, some believers will fall away from doctrine, giving attention to deceitful spirits, even doctrines from demons. I Tim 4:1) with the thinking of our Lord (Have this thinking in you, which was also in Christ Jesus. Phil 2:5).
The Word of Truth - Alive and Powerful

Often we think ourselves too smart to be deceived. If Satan deceived the woman in the garden, (Gen 3:13) he can deceive any of us. God himself created her perfect in every sense of the word. She had a perfect body and a perfect mind. Yet, Satan in the garden was able to deceive this perfect person. If perfection could fall to deception then certainly all of us (imperfection) can be deceived, and yes, we are all being deceived. Only ignorance and arrogance thinks itself safe from deception. Satan's deadly deception permeates all systems of human thought and endeavor.

There is only one way in which we can combat this deception. We must make the Word of God the priority in our lives. ("that is, the one whose coming is in accord with the activity of Satan, with all power and signs and false wonders, and with every deception of unrighteousness for those who perish, because they did not receive the love for the truth with the result that they might be delivered" Thes 2:9-10). The love of the truth is God's answer for our deliverance. This is God's purpose, plan, and will for our lives. Fulfilling the command to grow in grace and the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ is the only way we will even recognize the lie. We are bombarded with the doctrine of demons all day, everyday. It is on the lips of our family, friends and associates. It comes across the television and the radio. We are continuously being brainwashed to believe the lie instead of the truth. Moreover, in so doing we have become combat ineffective, casualties in the spiritual conflict that rages around us. The Apostle Paul warns us in Romans 12:2-3; "Stop being conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renovation of your thought, that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. For I say through the grace which has been given to me to every one who is among you stop thinking of self in terms of arrogance beyond what you ought to think; but think in terms of sanity for the purpose of being rational without illusion, as God has assigned to each one of us a standard of thinking from doctrine." We are told to; "put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil (Eph 6:11). There is a way which seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death (Prov 14:12). "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," declares the Lord. "For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts" (Isa 55:8-9).

Do not be deceived. Do not blame the government or others for the problems in this country, (Therefore, My people go into exile for their lack of knowledge Isa 5:13, My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I also will reject you from being My priest. Since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children). As goes the believer, so goes the nation (if My people who are called by My name humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, will forgive their sin and will heal their land, II Chron. 7:14). God will heal our land by the choices you make. You can make a difference. The choice is yours. Use your volition to execute the unique spiritual life of the church age, or become a casualty in spiritual combat by believing the lie. There are no accidents, coincidences or tragedies in the Christian way of life, everything happens for a reason. Everything happens for our benefit. Ignorance of the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob will keep your thinking in the center of Satan's deadly deception. Knowledge of God will break the chains that enslave, Jesus said, "and you shall know the truth, and the truth will make you free" (John 8:32). "and if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed" (John 8:36).

ParaBlanket - Black / Blue Reversable

This is the most useful item you could ever own. Soldiers use their poncho liners as a blanket roll instead of, or in addition to, their sleeping bags. thus providing extra warmth and enabling them to survive in conditions that others could not.

Our ParaBlanket is based on the design of the poncho liner used by the elite fighting Forces. Special Forces founder MAJ Dave Thomas spent 265 days of one year in a variety of climates... from the jungle to the desert to snow-covered mountains; without a sleeping bag, only his poncho liner ket him alive.

Our version is even better. The ParaBlanket is light-weight, constructed of ripstop nylon parachute fabric that holds in heat and resists tears. It's batting acts like pillows of air to insulate from the elements.

The ParaBlanket is handy when camping, mountain-climbing, travelling, boating, hiking, going to the beach, or in the car.

Kenneth M. Taylor, 86; Army Air Forces pilot shot down enemy planes after Pearl Harbor attack

Kenneth M. Taylor, who was one of the first two Army Air Forces pilots to get airborne and engage the enemy after the Japanese launched their attack on Pearl Harbor and together shot down at least six enemy planes, has died. He was 86.

Taylor, a retired brigadier general and former commander of the Alaska Air National Guard, died of natural causes Nov. 25 at an assisted-living residence in Tucson, said his wife, Flora.

"The story of Lt. Taylor is one of raw American heroism of the most extraordinary kind, because at a time when he should have been in some kind of bomb shelter he came and put his face in front of the enemy," historian Douglas Brinkley said in an "NBC Nightly News" segment on Taylor's exploits broadcast Dec. 7, 2003.

"I wasn't in the least bit terrified," Taylor told NBC News, "and let me tell you why: I was too young and too stupid to realize that I was in a lot of danger."

The Oklahoma-born Taylor was a 21-year-old second lieutenant on his first assignment - with the 47th Pursuit Squadron of the 15th Pursuit Group at Wheeler Field - on that Sunday morning, Dec. 7, 1941.

Ted Williams was born in California and raised there on a citrus fruit farm. He joined the U.S. Marines almost two year before the Japanese attached Peal Harbor and invaded Philippines .

After his release from prison camp and severance from military service, Ted returned home with some permanent scars, but his spirit carried him beyond those limitations. He became employed at sears and remained with the company until his retirement in 1975. Since that time, he has traveled extensively including fourteen return trips to the Philippines.

Moses Hardy, believed to be the second-oldest man in the world and the last black U.S. veteran of World War I, has died, family members said Friday. He was 113.

Evelyn Davis, one of Hardy's eight children, said her father died Thursday at a nursing home in his hometown of Aberdeen, Miss.

"He had been doing great. He didn't suffer, and he wasn't sick - he died of old age," said Davis, 68, also of Aberdeen. "He knew everybody, and those he knew he [recognized] when they came in to visit."

Russell Buchanan, 106; one of the last U.S. veterans of World War I

Russell A. Buchanan, one of the nation's last surviving World War I veterans, died Wednesday. He was 106.

The longtime Watertown resident suffered a stroke the day before Thanksgiving and died at Mount Auburn Hospital, said Marge Schwendenman, executive director of Brigham House, an assisted living facility in Watertown where Buchanan spent his last two years.

Hector J. Santa Anna, 83; B-17 pilot portrayed in Latino play

Hector J. Santa Anna, who flew 35 combat missions over Europe as a B-17 bomber pilot during World War II and six decades later became a prominent character in a play about Latinos who served in the military during the war, has died. He was 83.

Santa Anna, a retired Air Force lieutenant colonel who was one of a small number of Latino pilots during World War II, died of pneumonia Dec. 9 at a hospital in Dover, Del., after a long illness, said his wife of 61 years, Olive.

A descendant of the brother of Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna - the Mexican general who led the bloody siege against the Alamo in 1836 - Santa Anna was born in Miami, Ariz., a small mining town, Feb. 26, 1923.

Upon graduating from high school in 1940, he moved to California to earn money for college. But after visiting an Army Air Forces training field and deciding that "This is what I'd like to do," he enlisted in the Army in 1942.

Of the 97 cadets who received their wings at Brooks Field in Texas on July 29, 1943, Santa Anna later said, he was the only Latino.

Saddam was hanged; stockings are hung

Saddam was hanged; stockings are hung

Ding Dong The Wicked Witch Is Dead!

Iraqis awoke Saturday to television images of a noose being slipped over Saddam Hussein's neck and his white-shrouded body, the pre-dawn work of black-hooded hangmen. They went to bed as new video emerged showing Saddam exchanging taunts with onlookers before the gallows floor dropped away and the former dictator swung from the rope.

In Baghdad's Shiite neighborhood of Sadr City, victims of his three decades of autocratic rule took to the streets to celebrate, dancing, beating drums and hanging Saddam in effigy. Celebratory gunfire erupted across other Shiite neighborhoods in Baghdad and other predominantly Shiite regions of the country.

There was no sign of a feared Sunni uprising in retaliation for the execution, and the bloodshed from civil warfare was not far off the daily average 92 from bombings and death squads.

Gang Members Soon to Get Their Own Congressman

Gang Members Soon to Get Their Own Congressman

In the United States, all of us have a right to be represented in government, right?

Until now, one group of Americans has been grossly underrepresented. Just who is this underrepresented group? Gang members and cop killers.

Think about it: we discriminate against gang members and cop killers all the time. In most states, we don't even let felons vote! And what could explain that except the fact that nobody has chosen to represent their interests in Congress.

Luckily, that is about to change. In their wisdom, the Democrat Party in Minnesota (known here as the Democrat-Farmer-Labor Party, or DFL) has endorsed Keith Ellison as their candidate to replace 28-year incumbent Congressman Martin Sabo in Minnesota's 5th Congressional District.

A first for America...The Koran replaces the Bible at swearing-in oath

What book will America base it's values on, the Bible or the Koran?

Keith Ellison, D-Minn., the first Muslim elected to the United States Congress, has announced that he will not take his oath of office on the Bible, but on the bible of Islam, the Koran.

He should not be allowed to do so -- not because of any American hostility to the Koran, but because the act undermines American civilization.

So why are we allowing Keith Ellison to do what no other member of Congress has ever done -- choose his own most revered book for his oath?

When all elected officials take their oaths of office with their hands on the very same book, they all affirm that some unifying value system underlies American civilization. If Keith Ellison is allowed to change that, he will be doing more damage to the unity of America and to the value system that has formed this country than the terrorists of 9-11. It is hard to believe that this is the legacy most Muslim Americans want to bequeath to America. But if it is, it is not only Europe that is in trouble.

Mayaguez Incident Tested President Ford's Mettle

Nine months into his presidency, on May 12, 1975, Gerald R. Ford was forced to take military action and deal with an international hostage crisis.

President Bush recalled "The Mayuaguez Incident" during his eulogy yesterday at Ford's state funeral services held at the Washington National Cathedral here.

"When a U.S. ship called the Mayaguez was seized by Cambodia, President Ford made the tough decision to send in the Marines," President Bush said yesterday in his eulogy at Fords funeral, "and all the crew members were rescued."

The incident occurred less than two weeks after the fall of Saigon. Naval forces of the Khmer Rouge, Cambodias communist dictatorship, intercepted the U.S. merchant ship SS Mayaguez off Cambodias southern coast and captured the roughly 40-man crew.

Suspected militiamen dressed in Iraqi police uniforms ambushed the convoy, taking 14 hostages, including the five security guards, and nine truck drivers who were later released.

Iranians Captured In Iraq

Iranians Captured In Iraq

U.S. forces in Iraq said they have captured at least four Iranians suspected of involvement in attacks on Iraqi security forces.

The Iranians, reportedly including senior military officials, were captured during a pair of raids conducted last week, The New York Times reported Monday.

Two of the Iranians were reportedly in the country at the invitation of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani, and an Iraqi government official said officials from both countries have been working to secure the release of the prisoners.

"The Iranian ambassador has been running around from office to office," he said.

U.S. officials would not specify the identities of the Iranian prisoners, nor did they offer details of the evidence against them. However, one official said "a lot of material" was seized during the raids.

The Rape of Europe

The Rape of Europe

The German author Henryk M. Broder recently told the Dutch newspaper De Volkskrant (12 October) that young Europeans who love freedom, better emigrate. Europe as we know it will no longer exist 20 years from now. Whilst sitting on a terrace in Berlin, Broder pointed to the other customers and the passers-by and said melancholically: "We are watching the world of yesterday."

Europe is turning Muslim. As Broder is sixty years old he is not going to emigrate himself. "I am too old," he said. However, he urged young people to get out and "move to Australia or New Zealand. That is the only option they have if they want to avoid the plagues that will turn the old continent uninhabitable.

Broder is convinced that the Europeans are not willing to oppose islamization. "The dominant ethos," he told De Volkskrant, "is perfectly voiced by the stupid blonde woman author with whom I recently debated. She said that it is sometimes better to let yourself be raped than to risk serious injuries while resisting. She said it is sometimes better to avoid fighting than run the risk of death."

The 10 kilometer race is the oldest annual 10K race in the Army and is only surpassed by the Army 10 Miler in size and turnout. While the event was geared toward runners, some participants pushed children in strollers and lead dogs on leashes in the five-kilometer "fun walk."

"Nearly 600 people were registered (for the event)," said First Lt. Benjamin Gillespie, race coordinator for 7th SFG (A). "Plus, at least another 50 people walked on. I think the warmer than usual weather helped get some extra people here."

The winners of the race were Michael Kerston in the mens division and Betsy Hove in the womens division. Kerston, a 22-year old Gainesville, Ga. native, led all competitors with a time of 35: 08 a full 30 seconds faster than the overall second-place finisher, Robert Miske, 27.

Out of the Shadows

Out of the Shadows

When filmmaker Nick Bicanic heard college friend James Ashcroft from Cambridge was a mercenary guarding diamond shipments in West Africa, he thought it was a joke. Why would his college-educated friend be involved in such a "fantastical, noncareer?"

"I thought they had knives in their teeth that overthrow countries but I was curious," said Bicanic who recently moved to Hermosa Beach. "It's a weird job that most people don't have. I was interested not because I wanted to make a movie but I was wondering what the hell my friend was doing. He then took a job in Iraq with one of the larger private security companies, writing e-mails to me with photos with really absurd things, things you weren't reading about on the news. That's when I started to set out and discover what kind of environment these guys were working under."

Bicanic's interest in his friend's field eventually led to the documentary "Shadow Company," which explores the role of private security contractors and mercenaries in modern warfare, everything from the conflicts in Sierra Leone to the war in Iraq. The newly released DVD is available on www.shadowcompanythemovie.com and www.amazon.com.

The Ten Planks of the Communist Manifesto Translated

In the early '60's during the days of the "former" Soviet Union, Russian Premier Nikita Kruschev pounded his shoe on the podium of the United Nations and shouted to the West, "We will bury you!" Fearing an invasion from the Reds, America proceeded to build the most awesome military machine in history. Unfortunately, we forgot to guard our political homefront from being taken over by socialist - communist - liberal activists who would gain office and destroy American law by process of gradually installing the Communist agenda within our legal system and separate branches of government.

The Communist program from the start has been one which sees their revolution of 1917 succesful only upon total domination of the world. (See Brain Washing, A Synthesis of the Russian Textbook on Psychopolitics) Americans, being the most naive people among the nations, now believe that Communism is dead because the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain have been removed. The ironic truth is that Communism has just switched names to become more "politically correct". Today it is called international democracy.

The reason that the Berlin Wall came crashing down is not because Communism is dead but because they have achieved the planned agenda to communize the West, including America.

Mullah Menace

Mullah menace

Question: What's the most dangerous geopolitical development in the 21st century? Answer: Iran's emergence as the Middle East regional superpower. Why? Because it places the center of the world's increasingly stretched energy resources more and more under the influence of an oil-rich, fundamentalist, pro-terrorist, anti-Semitic regime that has not only nuclear ambitions but the means to realize them.

Iran's malign hand now reaches directly into southern Iraq, to Syria, to Hezbollah in Lebanon, to Hamas in the West Bank, and to the shores of the Mediterranean. Iran's long shadow now casts a deepening pall over the Sunni Arab countries of the region, including Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. All the Sunni gulf states have sizable Shiite populations, which Iran could turn against them. And what once promised to be a seed for democracy in the despotic Middle East, a new free state of Iraq, has betrayed every hope in an increasingly violent religious schism aggravated by Iranian meddling. The elections in Iraq led not to collaboration between different ethnic and religious groups but to a Shiite majority with a mandate to introduce what is, in effect, a radical Islamic republic. The south of Iraq is now an Iranian quasi protectorate, with police and local militias controlled by Tehran. No longer a traditional bulwark against Iranian expansion and influence, Iraq is in a dizzying downward spiral that has left Iran the undisputed champion of political Islam.

FBI is rebuked on Okla. bombing case

FBI is rebuked on Okla. bombing case

The FBI failed to fully investigate information suggesting other suspects might have helped Timothy J. McVeigh and Terry L. Nichols with the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing, allowing questions to linger more than a decade after the deadly attack, a congressional inquiry concludes.

The House International Relations Committee's investigative subcommittee will release the findings of its two-year review as early as Wednesday, declaring that there is no conclusive evidence of a foreign connection to the attack but that far too many unanswered questions remain.

"We did our best with limited resources, and I think we moved the understanding of this issue forward a couple of notches even though important questions remain unanswered," Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Huntington Beach), the subcommittee chairman, said.

The report will conclude there is no doubt McVeigh and Nichols were the main perpetrators, and it discloses for the first time that Nichols confirmed to House investigators he participated in the robbery of an Arkansas gun dealer that provided the proceeds for the attack.

Pakistani city serves as a refuge for the Taliban

Quetta is a resting spot, recruiting ground and meeting point for the militia, officials say.

At a time when the Taliban is making its strongest push in years to regain influence and territory across the border in Afghanistan, this mountain-ringed provincial capital has become an increasingly brazen hub of activity by the Islamist militia.

Quetta serves as a place of rest and refuge for Taliban fighters between battles, a funneling point for cash and armaments, a fertile recruiting ground and a sometime meeting point for the group's fugitive leaders, say aid workers, local officials, diplomats and others.

Iraqis carry on a fierce custom

Commandos provide a gory display at the Najaf transfer ceremony.

The audience knew what to expect when Iraqi commandos took the stage at the stadium here Wednesday with frogs and a rabbit in hand, preparing to celebrate with a bloody flourish the transfer of local authority from U.S. to Iraqi troops.

But the Americans were in for a surprise.

As U.S. commanders and guests watched, the burly commandos in dark green T-shirts began taking bites out of the frogs.

One man knelt, placed the rabbit belly-up on his lap, and cut it open with his military knife. He screamed as he bit the rabbit's heart, then handed the carcass to his companions, who began gnawing away, blood flowing down their cheeks.

Tactical Tips
Sniper Tips

1. During the Dynamic of a fire fight Assault, Battle cries and the warrior's "war face" intimidate the enemy into fleeing or not firing back - tactics which can have more effect than most milspec leaders would credit them with.

2. If the fire team does not have a target it will advance until it does or is fired at. A good unit does not waste ammo, because it also gives them away and even when rounds are flying all over the place an individual can still surprise his enemy.

3. A clever sniper tactic he might use is shooting past a hill. The sonic crack of the round passing the hill could mislead the enemy into believing the sniper is on that hill.
