Hell yes CAP is still around!
I've been a CAP cadet for almost 3 years now, it's a great program for any youth, regardless of whether they want to be in the military or not. CAP provides many valuable services to our nation, including Search and Rescue, Anti-drug operations, Border Patrol, Aerospace Education, and many more. Although we are some of the unsung heroes of the nation, we provide a very valuable service as the domestic Auxiliary of the Air Force.
Anybody else out there in CAP or was in CAP?

Well, I came in this area of the forum planning to ask the same question, and I noticed this topic!
I am a Master Sergeant in Civil Air Patrol currently. Unfortunately for the last 5 months the wing has been delaying promotions for all its cadets; if these promotions were not delayed, and I passed all my tests first time, I would be a Chief Master Sergeant by now. By March I will have been in 2 years, and will be able to wear my red service ribbon, that will be my 11th ribbon.
Any more cadets out there?
Sgt. Levy

Better learn how to spell "diesel" first. Seriously, A friend's son is a diesel mechanic in the Marine Corps, which means he also mans a SAW 249, in a Humvee turret, when he's not turning wrenches. He's done 2 tours of Iraq, and now is unsure of whether he wants to get out and be a mechanic, or re-enlist.

Best of luck with that. I don't know what kind of work will be out there anytime soon, but the military will make the most of those skills. That's why my friend's son is reconsidering staying in the Marine Corps.
