The Military Lensatic Compass is a good solid compass. The phosphorescents illuminate at night, making it easier to shoot azmiths, and can easily be recharged with exposure to bright direct light, such as that of a flashlight on the face of the compass. I always carried the Silva Ranger and Military Lensatic, but used the Silva Ranger (mostly because the needle floats free and easier making it faster to use while your on th move).

A useful(though not very sophisticated or tactical) tip is that by putting a piece of illumines tape on the bottom of the compass at night you can read it easier too.
